Don't know if anyone already commented on that but I noticed something interesting concerning a possible release date.

Looking at the average number of days between Macbook Pro updates in the Buyers guide, and extrapolating this number to the next update, the upcoming release would fall on June 6th, that's exactly at WWDC, so it is not unlikely that we could see a Macbook Pro update during WWDC.
I suppose something else adding credibility to WWDC is they are likely to want to talk about the hardware at an event if it's a redesign. It would be unusual to have a July event, so it could well be that if they launch in the summer it will be at WWDC.
Legit i wonder?!
Those are some pretty stonking numbers if true - I wonder if the 10 core and 12 core variants will be analogous to the core i5 and core i7 options currently? A standard CPU option, with a more powerful one in a higher configuration or as a BTO extra. Would make sense they would want to keep the extra cost upgrades.

Apple didn’t make 16 GB the default until the 2014 15 inch model, so, you probably won’t see that until 2020 if at all. I would hope with the 16 inch config, they would make it default. But, with Apple, you probably would have to pay near or $3,000 for it.

I miss Moore's law.

The thing is I think Apple rely on MacOS a lot, Windows 10 is just terrible in my opinion. I had a MacBook Pro 2011, it lasted from that year until late last year, that’s 7 years of daily use, that is well worth the price.

If I brought a MacBook Pro now and it lasted the same amount of time, I would still consider it worth the price, even at Apples current pricing. MacOS is the reason!

I agree with you. MacOS is worth a good deal of extra money. My concern is that Apple keeps leveraging that cost further up. And now they’ve combined it with seemingly higher hardware failure rates.

If the machine lasts 10 years I’d say it’s still worth the high price of admission. There’s long term value. But I don’t feel hopeful. And then there’s the fact you can no longer update all of the components to keep it relevant. It seems almost disposable compared to older units. I think the value is a long way off from offerings some years back.

You can always buy in the used market to get lower hardware costs. I've been doing so because I didn't want the latest problems but paying less has been a pleasant side-effect.

I seriously thought about this. I wanted the prior gen Air. But that hadn’t been updated in so long it isn’t packaged with a modern enough chipset to support hardware HEVC decoding. And that’s the one thing I want. It’s otherwise my perfect machine.

I think I’ll just keep waiting.

It would be nice to have the newest SIMD instruction set with the latest Intel processors to play around with but I have a 2018 Mac Mini that I can play with. Hardware acceleration is worth waiting for if you need it.

They are going to update the MacBooks with what? According to the leaked Linux drivers, there won’t be any Comet Lake CPU with GT3e graphics... so no chips for the 13 inch MacBook Pro.

longevity depends on many factors...I have Sony Vaio laptop from 2008. Core2 duo, still works...battery dead..need to plug in when use, not as fluid as new machines..but basic browsing it still works..

I dont think Apple is focused on he 13" as much this time around it will most likely get a spec bump in other areas and the 15" (16) will get the new processors that will "arrive in some laptops(mas) in Q2". A summer release is still likely.

All I hope for is a redesigned keyboard for all the macbook lineup (but first for macbook and macbook Pro) and specs bump for 13 inch without touchbar. Flexgate should have been fixed with 2018 model already, but this butterfly keyboard just makes it impossible for me to pay 1600 euros (EU prices :( ) for a machine like that.

Here's hoping that the 15 or 16 inch 2019 MacBook Pro ends up having the ATI Vega 48X or the Radeon 580 Pro 8G that the iMac's got today. Even if it's an upgrade option. I really need more than 4 gigabytes for video in a MacBook Pro.

I’m also hoping for an update to the nTB MBP.....I’ve a feeling that they’ll discontinue it instead!!

The new iPads have simultaneous wifi. I don't know the specifics of Apple's implementation and whether it's crippled with a small antenna matrix, but that's now on my wish list for my next MBPro too. Again, not the crippled kind.

Awesome. And I was concerned about the lack of 802.11ax support... at least this is something.

Edit: I just saw the iPad mini have this too.

It might be 1 x 5Ghz stream and 1 x 2.4Ghz stream. That would be pretty poor. But it has potential. We'll need to wait until some competent sources do some tests.

I guess it’ll be just like it is on the iPad Pro as the comparison table doesn’t state any difference between the former’s wirless connectivity and the new iPad models.

Maybe. The comparison tables are always weak though. They don't show the difference between the 13" TB and 13" nTB either. I think we'd really need someone who properly understands wifi (ie, not your usual reviewer) do some testing to see.

- Same form factor, 15 and 13 no 17 16.5.
- on 13 there will use same and minor change CPU. i5 quad, i7 quad.
- on 15 i7 remain same 6 core but there are 8 core i9 option.

I would wait until late 2021 before upgrading, because, you want to know if Apple is still dedicated to Intel x86 or is gonna go full A-Series.

If this is true, my decision-making will be relatively easy.. Whateves. It was a mostly fun decade+ run being Mac-only.

What is your source ?

There is no way they are going to stick a 8core CPU inside the chassis they currently have. Maybe no 16” but I do anticipate design changes.
