That's why I said the use was limited and not that it's obsolete. It's like vinyl. A few people use it. Way more play digital music using mobile devices.
Studios aren’t using vinyl to create the digital versions from though.

It’s a pretty basic/junior developer who doesn’t use the terminal/etc, IMO.

This might be the part you want to watch:

You couldn’t narrow it down to something more specific than an hour?

I watched this like long ago. I will watch it again later, but for right now, I have important things to do.

Micro Center has the Apple Certified Refurbished 2018 15” 2.6/512GB/560X model for only $1999. I’m tempted. But also, if this is the last model of this generation of MacBook Pros, is it worth it? Hmm...

the keyboard problem needed more than a year to fix it

that's the main reason why they won't be releasing a new MacBook this year (new means not just speed bump, but hardware change, that keyboard)

so there lineup in 2020 might be

12 and 13 inch MacBook Air

15 and 17 inch MacBook Pro

Apple will never merge iOS with macOS. Both will remain. The Mac isn't going away and it will run macOS. iOS will not become macOS. Apple has said as much many times.
Ok, post some links that prove that. First of all, they haven’t said anything like this “many times”. Schiller said that once in an interview and the only thing he said is that they won’t merge iOS and MacOS. And they wont, I believe them. They’ll just slow get rid of Mac OS altogether.

That is disappointing, I was looking forward to seeing what they do for the new design. Some people will be annoyed if they have held off buying for this very reason.

God... I delayed the purchase of my new MacBook Pro because I wanted this 16.5" version... Guess I gotta wait longer or go for whatever they release this year that has not this hopeless and annoying butterfly keyboard...

Judging by this my guess is that this years MacBook Pro will be a spec update at best.

I think I’m going to just sell my XPS and get a 2018 MBP now... Not worth waiting 2 years. Not worth waiting even for this year’s model because I’ll just be waiting for more months after the release for refurbished and discounts.

Apple is reading the forums and they realize users are hanging onto their 2015 and even earlier models longer waiting to skip this generation. Thats why they pushing out what was thought to be a predictable upgrade cycle to 2021. They are hoping we will all give in before then.

Sorry, but I have what you call really good patience and 2021 was my upgrade cycle year anyway. Partly because I want to know if they are gonna keep support Intel on their pro notebooks or switch them to A-Series too. This is a deciding factor for me.

I really doubt that is what’s happening. The new design was probably always going to be next year or 2021. Ming Chi Kuo is accurate on what’s coming out, however he’s not 100% on when things come out, I think this is one of those times.

It’s really going to depend on how bad this keyboard issue really is. If it’s a lot of people and a very high percentage then Apple would probably be pushing the new design for as soon as possible, however if the figures are indeed lower then it’s a different story.

Maybe they have found a keyboard without a complete redesign.

Hey everyone is apple still planning on relating a new mbp in 2019 I am on the fence on if I should get the 2018 or not mbp since reading that it won’t be releasing until 2021

I need some advice...I currently have a non-retina 2012 MacBook Pro that has served me well. I’m an elementary school teacher and get MS Office for about $14.99 and most of my work is basic stuff. I’ve seen people upgrading their MacBook Pros with SSD options and RAM upgrade which I did bump to 8 GB. I really was tempted by the deals on the new Air, but as you can imagine, MagSafe has saved my computer on numerous occasions. The port don’t bother me as I’d get a dock and leave it on my computer cart. I also use a silicon keyboard protector on my MacBook Pro. But trying out the keyboard on the Air was not pleasing and I’m obtaining my second Masters this Fall which will entail a lot of writing, do a comfortable keyboard is paramount. Would it be worthwhile to further upgrade the 2012 machine or give the Air a chance with a silicon cover as my classroom is quite dusty with poor ventilation? Any advice would be much appreciated.

I'm going to get an iMac and just keep using my 2014/2015 MBPs until they die. 2021 better be good.

I thought about the iMac too. Won't have the keyboard issue. It's an option but I ended up going for the latest MacBook Pro. I like being portable. Bought the extra warranty and I hope I don't have a bad experience.

So there was a rumor that a new MBP would come out this year and now another rumor says it’s not coming. I’m not sure if anyone should really base their purchase decisions on stuff like that.

If you don’t need a new computer right now, the only logical thing to do is wait until WWDC and not your decisions on fact and not rumor.

Ps: and yes, 2021 decidedly sounds like ARM :) in that case I’m happy I got the 2018 model.

The mouse isn't going away.

Exactly. Vinyl hasn't gone away and neither has tinkering with your own car. It's just become less mainstream. I can imagine large parts of the creative sector using touch screens instead of Wacom tablets or... mice. I myself, for example, take all my notes in GoodNotes on the iPad Pro 11. It has replaced both my paper notebook as well as parts of what I use my laptop for. Will it replace a laptop? No, but my laptop is less central to my digital life now.

Studios aren’t using vinyl to create the digital versions from though.

You should never take comparisons literally :)

Yeah, I just read that. It's a real shame. "Woah, in 2021, the 13" will get 32GB!" Doesn't sound so spectacular as when that should happen in 2019.

I have a late 2013 13" which sometimes shows its age. I could upgrade the SSD, but it's a hassle and it won't change the fact that I only have 8GB RAM. I'm not looking forward to buying a base model 15" because with VMs, 16GB is still limited. But only the base models get seriously reduced prices here and I'm not looking forward to paying around €1000 to upgrade a base model to 32GB either...

maybe they will introduce this 17" MBP with vega and intel 10nm in late 2020 with a release in early 2021
On the positive POV is good that we dont get another 14nm new macbook pro

The rumour is about the introduction of mini LED screens I thought (which I’m guessing are on the roadmap for the MBP, hence the 2021 date)? Although I think the MR news story title was a bit misleading.

no it was a mistranslation (as I tried to tell people yesterday in the macrumors post). Ming is still calling for 16-16.5 this year -- it's the mini LED MBP that is 2021ish.

I know a lot of people will be bummed on the rumor news that 2021 will be the next H/W refresh. However last year I got a 2018 MBP with AppleCare and have been enjoying it the whole time. No computer is perfect, look at any Lenovo, Dell, or Surface group and you will see issues or wishes for the next ones. IMO the MBP is a great machine used by thousands of people every day. I see lots of newer MacBook devices when I am out and about and people love them.

I used both the 2017 and the 2018 and IMO the 2018 is a great device just with the softer/quieter keyboard. Yes it might not be perfect, but I am starting to notice that I am typing faster with the keyboard.

So I say if you are thinking of getting one, go for it. You will have a couple of years under your belt when the new ones launch and you can sell it later if you wanted the latest and greatest. :)

my GF has a lenovo. Have had to deal with it for years.

I'm not saying every PC laptop is a POS.

But wow. This is a newer later model PC laptop and its a POS.

Add onto that Windows. PC OS of a POS.

And yeah, my macbooks have never been perfect, but its amazing how people will lump macbooks and pc laptops into same phrase and not explain the huge differences STILL between the mac and pc.

YMMV.
