No one on this forum will be able to give you a definite answer, we are all guessing and giving our opinions. My thinking is that a new Macbook Pro would come around WWDC, the last Macbook Pro update was last July. After the trashing that Apple has been getting with the Macbook Pro just lately from tech YouTubers and bloggers, i think it's safe to assume that Apple will want to at least fix the keyboard issue as soon as possible.

This years WWDC is the 30th year, that could mean nothing, however Apple have already said that the Mac Pro and a Mac Pro display will be coming in 2019. What better time to announce and update the Pro lineup than at WWDC?

Mac Pro with a new design
Mac Pro display
Macbook Pro with a redesign (including the keyboard fix)
iMac Pro (possibly) - altho i'm not really sure about this one since they updated the iMac with a spec bump not long ago.

OR if Apple needed more time they could wait until October and hold a "Pro" focused event, however i don't think they will want to wait that long.
I think this is largely correct. My only quibble is I think they'd update the iMac Pro with the new Pro Display design language---they had a chance to rev it with the regular iMac last month and didn't.

UNLESS this is a situation where chips appropriate for the iMac Pro are not yet available and that's why they waited. My knowledge of Xeon processors is nil.

Of course, I don't think the Mac Pro will be ready until the end of the year.

I'm very excited for WWDC. I imagine Gurman will start issuing reports and rumors next month like he usually does.

Ming Chi Kuo has said the redesign 16” to 16.5” MacBook Pro will be this year. A second report was later released by Kuo, it said that Apple will add the new mini LED screen technology in 2021.

I was under the impression, that the second report invalidated the 2019 release for a re-designed MBP.

There was a mix up with what some were reporting, Ming Chi Kuo stated that Apple will release a 16" to 16.5" Macbook Pro in 2019, there will also be a new Mac Pro (which we already knew anyway since Apple confirmed it) and a Pro display.

In a separate note Ming Chi Kuo stated that Apple will introduce mini-LED into the Macbook Pro. The report also mentioned that a mini-LED display will also come to the iPad in 2021. Ming Chi also said that the mini-LED technology will start with a 6K mini-LED display for this year, my guess is that it's the Pro display that will be announced alongside the new Mac Pro.

Basin Lake refresh Core X-Series CPUs were introduced in October of last year, and they are the basis for the Xeon W, so a refresh of the Xeon W should be here before the end of the year, if not sooner. The other key item for an iMac Pro would be an updated GPU, which is up in the air right now.

will this have a new keyboard?

will this have a new keyboard?

I have no idea 100% but my guess would be yes, I think thats why they are bringing the redesign a year early )it would normally be 2020 otherwise).

It’s what I’m holding out for, a more reliable keyboard without the current issues.

That is disappointing, I was looking forward to seeing what they do for the new design. Some people will be annoyed if they have held off buying for this very reason.

The updated news that we wont be seeing any significant update to the MBP until 2021 has all but killed my waning interest in the Mac. By the time Apple gets in gear and releases a new MBP Windows and PC notebooks will have advanced so much more again. Likely it will just be an exercise in futility, as the way Apple is set up now it’s only about the money little else.

TBH I'd love to be proved wrong, seriously so...

It’s a little out of date, my post is as well. It was later reported that Apple will still be releasing that 16” MacBook Pro redesign this year. The 2021 is said to be introducing the mini LED screen tech to the MacBook Pro and other machines.

I think Apple have got to do something soon, the keyboard issues need fixing. If it wasn’t for that I would of brought the new Air a few weeks back!

Apple doesn't do something soon the "Pro" aspect will be all but gone. Said before and now again "I've never seen so many switch platforms" The 2016 design is useless for many of us for many reasons. The MBP wont be very Pro if hardly any professional's use it?

They might know that, which is why the Mac Pro is this year along side their new Pro display. I think the new Macbook Pro could be shown off at either WWDC or an event in October. I think the reason a lot of people still hang in there is because they know MacOS is better than Windows (at least in those of us that have that opinion). The Macbook Pro is nice looking machine, and the 2018 Pro has some great specs, they just need to fix the keyboard issues.

Apple needs to deliver simple as that, fix the keyboard and fix the cooling, focus more on OS X as a productivity tool.

so long story short I sold the laptop to a private buyer today and now I am waiting for the rumoured 2019 16 inch MacBook Pro. So hopefully that gets released soon. If somehow there isn’t a 16 inch model to be released this year, I will buy a refurbished MacBook Pro and keep waiting.

So hopefully that gets released soon.
Soon is relative - people are expecting to see something for WWDC. For a point of reference, folks said the same thing last year and were disappointed, though apple did release it in July.

If somehow there isn’t a 16 inch model to be released this year,
The rumors seem very conflictory in that some say yes and some say no.

Yo sup staff member thanks for dropping by :) as long as a 16 inch model gets released I don’t think I will be disappointed... the keyboard or the cooling can’t be worse than what it is at the moment right?

Btw I was actually checking out some windows laptops, e.g. dell XP’s 15, Razer Blade pro 17 inch, lg gram 17 and etc but then I just can’t cope with the operating system. Although the current MacBook pros are prone to some design flaws, it was such a joy for me to use it .

Judging by this my guess is that this years MacBook Pro will be a spec update at best.

I think it is for the best. It would be preferable any significant update includes a die shrink and the much superior integrated iGPU’s - which should be here by 2020/21.

I just want them to fix the keyboard on the Air and MacBook Pro as well. I’m literally on the edge of hitting the buy button, the only thing holding me back are the issues on the keyboard. If apple fix that I will buy as soon as they announce.

I got mine with AppleCare to cover me for if the keyboard fails - and I plan to replace the machine within 3 years so it could be the way to go for people who need a laptop now.

Keyboard issues are not super common, but too common - there is technically a good chance you won’t have any issues (but yes, the failure rate is definitely too high, relatively speaking).

I guess it’ll come down to, should you have an issue, could you go without your machine for ~1 week?

I seriously can't imagine them not doing anything about the keyboard this year.
Tim Apple on stage doing his usual "introducing the best ever" without a word about the new keyboard?
Sure, the sheep would clap as always, but he would be eaten alive IMO.

Hoping for you that it will be soon! I'm satisfied with my 2018 MBP and don't have any keyboard issues with it, but I'm a little afraid that I will at some point, and a 16-16.5" MBP with a fixed keyboard and an iPhone X-style of display redesign sounds really promising. Maybe I would have held out another year had I known that a redesign would arrive this year already, I'm not sure. Either way, it'll be good to see if Apple finally gets a grip on the keyboard problems this year, regardless of what machine I got. This issue has been dragging on for way too long already, four years of a failure-prone keyboard design are a long time for any company, but a particularly long time for Apple who usually prides itself in reliability and longevity.

If all or even just 90% of the rumors for Apple products this year end up true, it may very well be the most exciting year in terms of new Apple products in a while. All the recent 9to5mac rumors about iOS13 and macOS 10.15 already sound like it might be the biggest software leap in years, and we have a redesigned MacBook Pro, Mac Pro and a brand new 31" Apple display with a new display technology coming up, in addition to what sounds like some really nice enhancements on the iPhone front (i.e. triple camera/dual camera for the XS/XR). In addition to all the products we already got last month.

What I personally may be the most excited about is the rumored over-ear headphones from Apple, though. I think the over-ear-headphones market could really profit from a product that's the same as what AirPods were to the in-ear-buds market (or to the wireless-headphones market in general). A pair of headphones that's not just focused on excellent sound (like many over-ear-headphones are) but also brings a lot of innovation and convenience to the table, just like the AirPods did 2.5 years ago.

The problem is I use my keyboard daily for long writing sessions. As a writer I need a great keyboard which Apple has always had. I don't hate the butterfly keyboard, the fact that it’s more accurate to type on is a great thing (it means I make less mistakes which is always good).

Also I don’t live close to an Apple store so it would be very inconvenient. I hope Apple fix the issue soon.

I highly doubt any redesign will happen at WWDC. If that were the case, we would have seen leaked picture of chassis by now, just like we saw a few months before 2016 redesign. Would I like for the redesign to happen asap? Sure, especially because of the keyboard and thermals. If they manage to finally put out a decent and working laptop, I would buy it in instant, only because of MacOS.

But with all that said, maybe there will be a redesign soon, but I doubt it will be at wwdc. What I'm even more curious about is the Mac Pro. Lots of talk from Apple about their Prosumers, but nothing to show for. And if it took them this long to put out a new MP, I really think they are about to release just another soldered and overpriced pos. But I do hope that I'm wrong.
