Waiting Patiently for the White iPhone and Making Guesses to It's Availability Here

Scenario:

Apple doesn't do a full release of the White iPhone. Instead, the White iPhones just show up in stores one day.

Who gets them? Should we just check stores every day? Do they go to people on the priority list? Is there a separate priority list for the White iPhone? Walk-ins only?

That question about the priority list is a darned good one.

There's a manager who ticked me off and sorta owes me a favor.

I'm gonna call his store now and find out if they have a list for white. Or if they plan to. Hmm....

I shall return.

If they go to priority list people first I'll go down to my Apple Store this afternoon and get my name on it. No way am I waiting longer than I have to.

Called the store in question, phone rang for like 3 minutes before I got sick of waiting.

Called the other store near me. Chick who answered said that since there's nothing on apple.com about when white goes on sale, they aren't starting up any kind of list yet.

She also said that any sort of lists for black wouldn't be transferrable to a list for white. White would be an all new list.

Which, really, makes sense, when you think of it.

I'm gonna go with what she said.

It worked that way back in oh... 2004?5? whenever it was that the colorful iPod minis came out. They had a list, but you had to tell them what color you wanted. If they got a shipment and your color was in there, they called you.

Choices. Yep. It's all about choices. :D

Thanks for the update. I'll call my store to make sure they'll handle it the same way. It would make sense if they did it that way.

I guess the White iPhones will be for whoever walks in. I bet they'll start a White iPhone priority list shortly after launch though.

Yeah. I suspect they will. I really hope they do some sort of announcement, at the very least. I'm not gonna get up every day and go hunting to see if they've finally released it.

Dunno that I'd preorder. Reserve, maybe. I did that with the iPad. I need to see and touch stuff before I commit to buying it. :)

If given the choice, I'm going to reserve it as well. Online ordering is convenient but I prefer just getting it in the store.
 
I don't think the 30 day window is relevant. What about people who bought on day 2, 5, 8, or even 2 weeks later?

No matter what day they release it, there will still be millions inside some 30 day window, doesn't have to be since launch day.

I guess there's some sort of allure to either a) not having to go to a store or b) getting to open it before the Apple Store employee.

(That's not including the people who don't have a store nearby, of course)

Me, I've had one of every generation, so the whole allure of unveiling it is kinda lost on me. *shrug*

The employees always give it minimal handling, and at least I know if it works before I leave the store. ;)

Yea, I can understand why someone want to be the 1st to open/touch it. I guess its a preference thing really.

I'm not as much concerned who touches it. My mind is more at ease if the iPhone is waiting for me at the store.

Same here. Dunno why.
 
In store pickup, the biggest advantage you can return and swap it there versus shipping it to apple.
 
The wait is really driving me crazy. Mostly because Apple has said nothing about preordering or if it'll just show up in the store or what's going on. I just want my white iPhone!!

Agreed. Not knowing is the worst part about it.

If Apple would just say a date, we would have something to count down to. Now its just day after day of "It might be tomorrow!"
 
Yes. I hate checking this thread everyday to see more speculation. We need some sort of official word, any word!
 
Well my prediction was that the white would go on sale for pre-order today. That sure as heck didn't happen :)

The official word is anytime between Friday and July 31st. Hopefully sooner rather than later.
 
its funny how people with black iphones want white now.... haha... i hope everyone that waited patiently gets their white iphones!!!!

Even just a preorder date would do at this point. I mean, those freaking Twilight movies go on preorder like eight years ahead of time and we don't even have one for something that apparently goes on sale this month.

Coming from a white 3G I was pretty excited about and then disappointed when I couldn't get the white at launch. Having used the black now for a couple of weeks I can safely say I have no remorse. I think the black trim just provides a really seamless experience.

Especially considering how much reading I find I'm doing on this thing. Can't repeat often enough just how awesome the retina display is. Has significantly changed the way I use the iPhone.

Good luck to all you whitey's. Hope you get it sooner than later. :D

... It's not a new product. Apple is not going to create whole new launch for a product that already had a monumental launch. 1) White was suppose to be a part of that HUGE launch and 2) The hype would not be big enough

Mark my words, it's going to change to Available- Ships within ... - .... within the next two weeks.

No way Apple is going to make a separate launch. The most that I suspect is going to happen is when you go to apple.com, there will be a picture of a white iPhone and it will say "Now available" or something of that nature.
