No, not really but they are luxary cars and shouldn't be blowing up iPhones! lol At a BMW price point they might as well buy a Tesla. The tech just blows those gas guzzlers out of the water. I wouldn't wireless charge in a Tesla either though..
Just look up ‘Tesla phone overheating wireless charging’..

What is the point of wireless charging? To save a couple of seconds that it would otherwise take to plug in a wire? Taking that couple of seconds to plug in a wire will save several minutes or even hours because wired charging charges the phone much faster than wireless charging.

What's the point of lightning charging? Why don't we add a barrel plug brick to phones alongside the data port? This is an asinine response.

You get into your car and you put your phone in the center console. It charges while you drive and you don't have to fidget looking for a cable to plug into it. Your center console looks clean. You don't have cables lying about and turning into a rat's nest of spaghetti wiring. That's a convenience feature that 99% of people are fine with. That BMW can't follow simple open standards is BMW's problem.

I never said I don't respect people who communicate on the Internet. Don't put words in my mouth. You definitely use Instagram leaving that comment. Learn to communicate by uninstalling Instagram and face the real world. People here are leaving their opinion. Maybe if people stop feeding the META monster their iPhones would stop overheating.
Alternatively, people can buy the phones that don't overheat when they use the apps the need.

All anecdotal until people say “which” BMW models are at fault.

I have an iX3 and no new issues charging my 15PM over wireless.

Mine is set to limit at 80% in case that helps.

Just bought a bmw x3m 2024 and a new iphone 15 pro max. My iphone worked for about 2 days then had one episode of overheating then crashed. Wiped all my data and messed up my Apple Pay. After a restore and software refresh the issue persists.

I have a 2023 bmw 330i and an iPhone 15 pro that I just activated on Friday night. I put it on the wireless charger in the car for about an hour on Sunday while I was using CarPlay, until it overheated and shut off my phone. Apple pay still comes up, not sure if it's working or not.

I got this phone because my iphone 12 was overheating when wirelessly charged in my car, now this brand new one is doing the same (arguably even worse)

remember: these were the guys, that made CarPlay a payed subscription

I haven't used social media (other than the trap of this forum) for 7 years but go ahead and keep reaffirming your own baseless beliefs ... lol and I use an iPhone 13 Mini

But yeah you're probably right, that totally jives with Apple having officially acknowledged the issue and pledging to resolve it.

When I bought my lowly Subaru 2 years ago, the salesman advised against the wireless charger. There are 4 or 5 usb ports in the car (I lost count lol), and there's more room in the cubby without the wireless charging bit. Glad I took his advice!

Is this problem limited to BMWs?

I've been using a Logitech wireless charger for years to charge my iPhones during the night. On the fifth day of owning a brand new 15 Pro I suddenly heard a weird buzzing noise during charging (No noises when I put my 13 Pro on the charger).

The very next day I restarted the 15 Pro, but was no longer able to enter the passcode - it simply froze for several seconds and then asked me to enter the passcode again. I had to wipe and restore it via recovery mode, which also took several attempts (I canceled some steps that took longer than one hour each, e.g. activiation and setting a passcode). Eventually I let the setup run overnight, and after several hours it finally completed. However, the phone was basically unusable, since the phone app and iMessage always crashed after showing a blank screen for several seconds. Some system settings were no longer accessible, too, and led to freezes. In the end I sent my phone back to Apple. Kinda weird for a software failure, so I guess some hardware part must have been fried.

The BMW wireless charger issue reported is a hardware failure of the NFC chip, which cause Apple Pay to fail on the phone. There may be other issues related to heating of the phone on a wireless charger. Note that 17.0.3 was just released to address heating, but does not appear to address vehicle wireless charging compatibility.

The overheating issue I could care less about (I don't respect anyone who uses Instagram, I always uninstall Uber after I use it, I don't play freebie games with in app purchases, etc) but this seems like a pretty serious glitch. Been using iPhone 15 Pro since launch and havn't had any issues!
The OS doesn't care if the app that causes overheating is IG or some emergency SOS one. The phone OS is buggy, as Apple has accepted. It should never have allowed IG (or any app) to overheat the phone, to the point where its almost impossible to hold it in your hand without a case.

If you have an iPhone 15 and drive a BMW, it might be best to avoid charging the device with the vehicle's wireless charging pad for now.

Over the past week, some BMW owners have complained that their iPhone 15's NFC chip no longer works after charging the device with their vehicle's wireless charging pad, according to comments shared on the MacRumors Forums and X, formerly known as Twitter. Affected customers say the iPhone goes into a data recovery mode with a white screen, and the NFC chip is no longer functional after the device reboots.

In an iPhone, the NFC chip powers features like Apple Pay and digital car keys. Affected users receive a "Could Not Set Up Apple Pay" error message in the Wallet app, and there does not appear to be a way to fix the problem. Some customers say Apple replaced their iPhone after confirming the NFC chip failed, but the replacement iPhone is then vulnerable to the same issue, so there is currently no permanent solution.

While complaints so far have come from iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max users, it is possible the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are also affected, so owners of any iPhone 15 model should proceed with caution until this issue is sorted.

It's unclear what the specific cause of the issue is, how many customers are affected, and which BMW models are affected. We've reached out to an Apple spokesperson for comment, and we'll update this story if we receive a response.

Surely the BMW charger was what caused the problem with my iPhone 13 Pro, although the Apple Pay issue was detected after the iOS 17 installation was completed. The Genius Bar says that the Apple Pay antennas are damaged. Unfortunately, despite having AppleCare+, Apple cannot replace my phone because they no longer have iPhone 13 Pro units. I have never received an email for contact or follow-up on my case in over two weeks, very disappointed with AppleCare+.

Interesting. I had a 14 Pro that was unaffected by BMW charging, and did use it with iOS 17 for several days before I received a 15 Pro. What make and model BMW do you have?

I would strongly recommend you email tcook@apple.com explaining your issue that has not been solved by AppleCare+. While you are unlikely to receive an email back from Tim himself, you likely will receive a phone call back from Corporate Executive Relations, which can help escalate your case. Good luck and let us know what happens.

I’ll do that. Thank you, I hope that works.
