Was going with titanium going to backfire for Apple?

He is talking about Apple Watch Titanium Edition, which Apple discontinued later, because of low sales
The edition wasn’t discontinued. It was replaced by the Ultra version when series 8 released. That is the new premium version that uses titanium, so there was no need for an edition version anymore that looks the same as the normal version just with different materials.

I’ve been using my series 7 black titanium edition for about a year and a half and it still looks in immaculate condition. The weight reduction from the Ti was great compared to my previous series 4 stainless steel apple watch.

I don’t have a 15 pro, but I’d imagine the titanium would up just as well as my watch.

Maybe it’s just me but I I don’t have preferences or think too hard. I enjoy every iPhone I use and don’t think of ways it’s worse than before.

Coming from a 13 Pro to the 15 Pro Max, Apple pulled off some nice engineering to make the 15 PM feel nearly as light as the 13 Pro and not much harder to hold. I love it.

I liked the stainless steel a lot, probably more than the titanium.

However, the Max phones were getting heavy. If 2024 sees larger screen sizes, weight would have only went up more.

They therefore needed the change.

Got the Natural Titanium one. I like it and it feels good in the hand but it looks just like aluminum in my opinion. Definitely nothing like the shiny brushed metal look in Apple’s promotional materials, it’s just matt.

Well the Titanium G4 was problematic back in the day because of the way it had to be made…..was surprised they went back to it. Another example of Cook pulling old ideas out of the Apple Museum and selling it as new….along with widgets and colored iMacs.

Phone looks cheap and feels cheap now.
Hmm interesting.

I feel differently. iPhones don’t look cheap but Between the latest iPhone 15 Pro and my 12 Pro, there’s not a whole lot of substantial difference that would matter to there everyday person. And that’s fine. I’m glad no unnecessary bells and whistles are being added just for the sake of creating differentiation.

Here in GA, they made it a pretty big deal when a statewide phone-while-driving ban was put into place. I know someone who was at a red light and got a ticket for simply plugging his phone in to charge.
I had a cop in Warner Robins pull out of a mile long VIP escort to yell at me. I was at the stop sign of the neighborhood street that exited to the road the escort was on. I was waiting for the escort to get out of the way so I could drive again. I had the car in park.

Biggest one is that it don’t conduct heat effectively.

And with the new chips apparently substandard but instead of being disposed of - were used anyway and that is why the phone is heating up. Maybe they should have just used curved matt stainless steel instead.

More than last year I actually feel sorry for day one purchasers and now I’m looking to give them some good news - but this launch just seems cursed! But TMSC growing substandard products and having to use them because there is nothing else around does not bode well for the early units.
For sure...but as with all new designed products there has to be a beta version, they will be worked out hopefully for the final release next year, I should be ready to upgrade then after waiting for another year.

I would say no way is it is a misfire. I am pretty sure Apple is selling so many phones, especially the 15PM which I have and always case-less

Let the sales speak for the success/failure.

Please don’t use your phone while driving it’s one of the most dangerous things you can do.
Using a phone while driving is not inheritally dangerous. Being stupid in the way you use your phone while driving is. Just likely it is a misconception that speeding is automatically dangerous. If this one were true then the Germans would have not still have sections of the autobahn that have no speed limits. And truth be told the phone laws have the potential to make phone use during driving more dangerous. People now text with the phone below the level of their dash so cops are less likely to see them using it. If you send a quick text one handed with your phone at the top of the steering wheel, your peripheral vision still sees what is happening on the road. And especially with swype, I personally can text one handed and only occasionally glance at the screen.

that doesnt mean it wasnt a misfire, just means they crunched the numbers and found that they will live with the fallout...it is already being changed for next year because of the tolerances verses Manufactuing process was technically not in control but past production decision....beta version had to start somewhere.

being stupid is thinking you are the one exception until you arent and someone else pays for you breaking the law and in some cases with their life, that's being stupid.

No.
If anything titanium was a great move by Apple, it has made the phones significantly lighter than their predecessors, while also allowing them to get bigger batteries than their predecessors, it bodes well for future generations of iPhone Pro models.

Does titanium have it’s drawbacks? Yes, of course but the advantages of titanium outweigh the disadvantages.

Apple calls it the Series 7. And we don't know that it was discontinued because of low sales. It didn't come back for Series 8, because the Ultra was introduced. They would have been near the same price point (actually the S7 Titanium was $849 IIRC), so having two watches at the $799-$849 price would have been weird.

Absolutely. The weight difference is only 20grams and that does not make up for how easily it scratches. I loved being able to polish the scratches away on the silver steel phones

And stainless steel, was used for the 4 and 4S, then replaced with aluminum for several years, then brought back with the X.

I havent had to chance to see for myself, but lota of compromises going with titanium from the sounds of it.
It depends on each individual opinion😉 For me, titanium frame is great. Light -no light material short -potential wardrobe malfunction problem it is in the pocket . No compromises. In summary, it is awesome! You have to try using iPhone 15 pro/pro max. Do not just believe everything in social medias but verify it.

Better yet buy a car with CarPlay and have Siri transcribe and read aloud your text. You can also have Sir place calls for you too.

Cars prior to having CarPlay can buy a radio with it. Just make sure you buy one that outputs 27W USB-C power fast charging. If you own a Toyota, Subaru or other brands having a 200mm-wide double DIN to get a headunit that fits that width.

For me I hope the ultra line once released

Since it’s a higher price point

The whole frame is titanium even the inside

rather the aluminum how it is on this phone
you don't want that. Titanium is very bad at conducting heat and at letting wireless communication pass through. If the whole frame was titanium, you'd literally need antennas on both sides of the phone, because the inside of the phone would be shielding the antenna from all signal on the other side of the phone and you'd be thermally insulating half of the phone. Bad idea for electronics.
