Was going with titanium going to backfire for Apple?

Nope. Whoever told me fingerprints would be just as bad with titanium is out of their mind. Fingerprints are barely, if at all, noticeable on the white titanium model. If I'm not trying to find fingerprints, I don't see any at all.

Really?!! No problems here a year on with the added weight of a leather case. And I’ve climbed zero rocks

I don't have physical problems with it.. I just don't like it. They don't fit in my pockets either since I don't wear baggy clothes. Oh yea, the whole bit about only using my phone one-handed...I never hold or use it with both hands.

I have no use for the max anyway. I don't watch video on my phone, I don't play or have any games installed, and my vision is near perfect at 43 so no need for large type to read.

I played around with one over the weekend. It definitely feels smaller and lighter than the old SS body! I'm subconsciously associating weight with quality because I feel like the SS body feels more premium.

...and every single one of those suck. the 14 Pro Max is too heavy for routine one-handed use, which is how I use my phone almost exclusively.

I have ridiculously strong arms, hands and fingers (I'm a rock climber), but the Pro Max weight just sucks..
I quit CrossFit before pandemic and have not worked out since and I wish my 13 Pro Max back was flushed to the camera bump for more battery.

Weight isn't a bother.

It's always amusing how these threads, which simply ask for an opinion, tend to spiral out of control once a few pages in. We've already seen multiple straw man arguments. We've got posters prefacing their comments with information that add absolutely zero to their argument. Also, as tradition, we've got a few sprinkled in ad hominem attacks on other posters.

The MacRumors thread "Holy Trinity" has been achieved.

So far, I love mine. I did literally from the box on put it directly into a clear case, ensuring I did not touch the phone lol, so no smudges or fingerprints as it went into the case. I saw JerryRig where he showed the back glass breaking with little force and the drop tests I have seen shatter at low heights, where the 14 Pro Max was more durable. So we will see, but I LOVE my Natural Titanium... matches my Ultra.

I think that's normal in any enthusiast internet forum. The more niche the interest is the more fiery the conversation becomes.

As I said elsewhere, it's not too heavy, it's just that i don't like the weight. It's also not one-handed usable, which is how I almost exclusively use my 13 pro.

It’s a step in the right direction. BUT Apple needs to get the camera footprint on par with the 12 pro.
I agree with this to a degree. I hate how wobbly a naked 14-15 Pro is on its back due to the massive camera bumps. I wish apple would go slightly thicker on the body or do an arrangement like the visor on Pixel 6/7 lines.

I'm not sure calling it a misfire is fair. Physics are going to be involved at some point. As thin and compact as iPhones are, they have become pretty heavy to hold. Titanium solves that problem while potentially reintroducing others. It's up for debate how much of a calculated risk that was, but I would definitely not call it a misfire.

At the end of the day, dropping your phone from any height, no matter what it's made of, is risky. Try not to drop it, and definitely don't drop it on purpose like the YouTuber bozos do every year, and you'll be ok. I'm even starting to take iFixit less seriously because the snark they inject into their teardowns is almost starting to sound like they are HAPPY when the new models are low on the repairability scale. They benefit twofold because their site gets a bunch more traffic and then they get to sell more parts.

It's all dumb. Buy the phone if you need one. Don't if you don't.

You text exclusively one handed, type emails, browse the web, etc.?
Yes, that's the reason I've been using Plus & Pro Max iPhones since they were released.

I like big screens, longest batteries and something that would fit my mit.

I had to start wearing belts with all my pants but that's ok.

I think it isn't about strength but size of one's paws that matters with big things.

I can hold a standard NBA-sized basketball with one hand and flop it around until I am ready to pass it to someone else.

I'd never rock climb and support myself at El Capitan. That's one thing I wish I'd taken up 3 decades ago.

I dont unterstand why they are using titanium now. Its much more expensive and steel or aluminium is totaly ok for it. I downgraded from the 14 Pro to a standard 12 because of the bad camera. I will stay with the 12 for another year

I took another look at all the models at the Apple store with my white 14 PM out of its case.

I hate to say it - but the shiny SS phone looks more premium. The titanium looks almost the same as the aluminum models! Weight wise the pro and regular phones seem to weigh the same. With the SS you felt the difference between a Pro and regular iphone. I also noticed the USB-C wafer seems color-coded to the phone’s color.

All the 15s look the same with the exception of the lens array! It would have been better if Apple just left all pro models with bare uncoated titanium! I’d also say it would look good going back to polished if left bare - like my white SS.

That’s it for now.

What about the durability, and its resistant to scratch.

Though Apple did a great job by making the edges bit curve and replacing stainless steel frame with Titanium. But are we the Beta users with whom apple wants to test, the durability of this titanium and based on the results, they launch some better Titanium alloy for iPhone 16 Pro Max, something that Apple did with iPhone 6, which had aluminum was too soft that it bend, so they overcame it by using a better aluminum alloy for iPhone 6s.

I cannot wait for next, year, for me its a necessity to upgrade to iPhone 15 Pro max to enjoy the 5x telephoto zoom, USB-C to store high quality 4K videos directly in SSD drive, Pro Motion Screen and Dynamic Island.

Yes we all use cases, and don't mishandle our precious piece of jewelry items (in this case iPhone Pro Max). Still, unless we are using military grade cases, God forbid if the phone slips and falls on some rugged surface, it might cause micro-scratches to the titanium frame.
No we do not all use cases. And some of us have used iPhone Pros hard for years now without needing fugly cases.

Some day-one clickbait dissing durability means nothing.

I don't hate it but it wasn't enough to get me to upgrade from my beautiful, still aesthetically perfect, Black stainless steel iPhone 14 PM.

So does that count as a misfire? I don't know.

I say YES. It looks disgustingly CHEAP. Stainless steel had lots of class. Not looking like a $1500 phone anymore.

More like an $800 phone.

Plus in drop Tests the titanium crashes and burns hitting the pavement.

But Apple needs your repair business.

I am jumping ship for the Galaxy S24 Ultra in Feb.

Also the new Microsoft Surface Studio with just a 13th Gen i7 blows past an M2 Max Mac. And Windows 11 now has real cool AI features.
Did someone really use the words "real cool" and Windows 11 in the same sentence? Seriously?

Enjoy...

"Durability tests" are about as meaningful as benchmarks - they mean nothing to real-life scenarios. On the other hand, maybe I'm the only person that doesn't carry a hammer, box cutter, nails, and file in their pants pocket with their phone.

I guess decreasing annual sales of mostly cheapy phones is "making a market." /s

guess everyone has different tastes but I love that the titanium is closer to aluminum. hell, I wish it *was* matte anodized aluminum. have you seen the non-pro models? fingerprint-free.

i'll never get the "stainless steel feels so premium" crowd. i want my phone to feel light and practical. not jewelry that needs to be babied in a case.

That's just 1 data point. Look up the sales performance over the period of 17 years.
The point is that those (mostly low end crap) phones have not been "making the market." Apple is and has been the vendor making money, that others are chasing.
