iMac has a special place in my heart. So glad some love is being given to the iMac again.

If you don’t care about Apple intelligence, the video is totally skippable, nothing here. 16GB base memory, new colors and that’s it. Still waiting for a 27” iMac.

Key take homes:

None.

Thanks for watching.

Actually, the take homes are:

* Faster processor - the cynic in me almost believing the chip line-up was already set in stone the moment the first was released back in 2020. (iow, the m4 was already designed when the m1 was)
* Different colours that are almost the same as the current colours but somehow different - shades
* AI at apple changes the first word to be Apple, but it's exactly the same - and also, Apple is Waaaaaaay behind the curve when it comes to the latest marketing to try and shift computers because nobody wants to upgrade anymore.

There is NO reason for anyone who already has an iMac with Apple silicon to upgrade.
The real world speed boost will only be noticed by more professional users - and this iMac is really not for them anyway. The 24" monitor would've been a "no thanks" right from the first release.

Could not even bother the CEO with this one.. lame update. But seems to be the usual from Apple for the last few years. How many employees does Apple have? No creativity...

I don’t get the appeal of using type to Siri. It takes just as much effort and keystrokes (if not more) to ask Siri to message someone instead of just Alt-Tabbing over to Messages and typing out the message directly.

This is a running theme for me and Apple Intelligence in general. Best case it feels like a “six one way/half a dozen the other” gesture than any sort of improvement.

I’ll guess they tested it in Kindergarten 😎
I thought Apple was a soulless company motivated only by profit maximization.....but, yeah, sure they tested it on Kindergartens rather than actual consumers. I love how critics of Apple want to have it both ways.

That also make sleek looking colors like standard silver aluminum and space grays

You're probably too young to know the history of apple and their use of color in their consumer-level (not pro-level) products

Also their entire MO has been "six colors" since the 70s.

I'm not saying it's better or worse - personal preferences of course will differ. I'm just saying it is, by definition of the plain words, not an "all-in-one" anymore.
You could argue that, with the keyboard and mouse being separate, it was never an all in one

32GB RAM Max. is so wack. Do these M series chips just use less RAM in general? 32GB Max is wild. I really thought it'd be 64GB.
Since the M chip series iMac facelift, it's always been positioned as casual, entry level Mac. Just a basic Mac Mini with built in display and camera.

I miss the old days when iMac was always the next best thing beside the Mac Pro with all the discreet GPU options.

You know who's not in the MacRumor comments complaining about the iMac? The majority of people buying an iMac. This is more than enough for a family computer or small business and half the stuff people are complaining about only highlights further that you're not the demographic.
Right?

And of course, those demanding Apple make a bigger one, despite the fact that they have already said they won’t.
And of course, this bigger one that people are imagining is a massive 32 inch M4Maxer with a 120Hz Mini LED panel.
Oh, and for under $2000, of course. The most realistic Apple computer ever.

So don’t use it for messages?
Type to Siri used to be an accessibility feature, and it was one of the first things I turned on.
It does duplicate a lot of the functionality of Spotlight, but it allows you to take a lot more actions.
It’s a specially useful when paired with a keyboard shortcut.
Being able to double click the command key, type “play this album” and go right back to my work without any interruptions is fantastic.
Regularly you’d have to interrupt what you’re doing, go down to the Music app, click it to open, either search for the album or find it in your library, click on that, then click on “play”, then minimize that window, then move back to what you were doing before.
Now it’s doubleclick command, “play album”, click enter and done.
Same goes with other tiny tasks, skipping forward in a podcast, opening a specific Settings panel, pinging a device, running a shortcut, setting a timer…

Also, I think the biggest reason for type to Siri being much easier to find now… Is that Apple will eventually combine typed Siri and Spotlight into one interface.

The new colour options

Really begs for 24 inch companion, external display. A 4.5K 24” external display in a similar enclosure as the 24” iMac could lead to attractive 2 or 3 display setups.
