Count me in - my S3 (non LTE) also stops charging at 93% :(

Reboot only helps for 2-3 days - setup as "new watch" also doesn't last longer than 4 days, until it falls back to 93%..

Not shure if this is an faulty battery problem - or a software bug?

Apple Genius "never heard" about this problem...

regards,
Thomas

It’s definitely software related. As the battery ages it should be able to compensate for the visual gauge. So while it might be showing actual battery degradation we should be able to see 100% of its new full capacity.

Havent had the issue for about a month now.. but now its back. Today I woke up after a few days on 4.3 update and I'm at 96% this morning. Has anyone sent there's in for "repair" had any success with this not occuring after?

One of my 3 series 3 watches is doing this now. It only charges to 95% and then quits. My Nike + and SS series 3 watches are fine.

Super, super annoying. I can always tell when something is wrong, because the back of the Apple Watch is noticeably warm off the charger if it's not fully charged. I've no idea how much damage this is causing, either.

So is mine - NOTICEABLY warmer, when it does not charge to 100%.
Lithium Batteries getting warm ist also a safety issue - Apple should really look into this problem - it is not just "cosmetic".

100% agreed. Lately it just feels like one issue after another with Apple. If it's not the crazy number of iOS bugs, it's now my Watch.. *sigh*

Mine is currently at the repair center being diagnosed. Since the issue is so intermittent I don’t have much faith they find anything wrong. Especially since each time they run diagnostics it says there isn’t a hardware issue.

Keep us posted, though, please!

Just as I thought. Worthless.

If it happens again, I'm just going to go to the store without restarting it and make them look at it so they can see it happening. I figured when the agent ran diagnostics on it on Monday they would have been able to capture that.

Woke up up to another 93%. Ugh.
just got off a call with apple support. Their answer is send it in for repair. I had a similar issue with my series 2 and got the same deal as the OP. Watch came back with no repair. I finally called back in and got a better advisor and they agreed to do a swap. Not worth the 10 days without a watch to get it back not repaired!

Apple support is really poor anymore. I just bought a new 15" MacBook Pro (custom model ordered for store delivery) with AC and when the keyboard developed a cracked key 10 days in, best I could get out of them was to bring it back to the store for replacement. Problem was, store doesn't keep model in stock and I am 5 hours away. I just happened to be traveling there and had it shipped there. I ended up returning it and ordering a new one. Reps were awful. I got my AC refunded. It was of ZERO value.

If mine does it again I’ll be demanding a replacement. I set it up as new when I got it back today so let’s see how long it lasts.

Hmm, my AW S3 just started doing this (I’ve woke up to 93% after it being on the charger all night the last 2 mornings). Sounds like there isn’t a consistent fix yet? I do have AC+ on it so I’m covered through fall 2019 and starting my day at 93% isn’t really a big deal at this point since I have as yet to finish a day below 50% with my S3. It sounds like this is pretty common so Apple has to figure it out eventually? Maybe I should just wait...

Has it been determined whether this is a software issue or hardware defect yet?
If not, I am concerned that we are all waiting around for a software fix when in reality it's a batch of defective watches!

I wouldn't be surprised if this affects a very large number of Watch Series 3 owners. How many people do you think simply haven't noticed? I'd wager a LOT. Whether it's software of hardware, I'm happy to bet this affects a lot of Watches out there.

If it is intermittent and/or can be fixed at least temporarily by a device restart it almost certainly has to be software issue. If it was hardware, it would be more predictable/reproducible I would think.

Anyhow, one might say it IS a hardware issue, in a manner of speaking... Since lithium batteries lose capacity with repeated charge/discharge cycles one day's 100% isn't going to be a previous day's 100%. When the watch reports >100% battery coming off the charger, it might be that it somehow does not compensate for the loss of capacity. *shrug*

My speculation. Take for what it is worth. :p
