The first Mac I used was an SE, or actually the first computer.

Good enough to learn on but slow with System 7.

But it was a 4 year old model when System 7 was released after all.

My babies. The first computer I ever saw on the left and the first computer I ever used (when I actually knew what I was doing) on the right. The custom dust covers are off to the left. Museum quality, both still work and yes I still fire them up from time to time to play Oregon Trail. 🙂 Oh, and yes I drink Pabst Blue Ribbon. Always have, always will.

If you haven’t had them recapped, you should before the capacitors and internal batteries leak and fry the computers.

Maybe the guy wanted to show Tim that he kept it because it was so expensive and still paying it off. Sound like an Apple product to me. Make items in China, Sell at normal x10 prices.

I always wondered why they went with the beige-yellow look on the case in the early Macs. When the Classic came out in the closer-to-white it looked so much better.

Got it used in 1996ish. Still operational: "Your Macintosh SE (B01), with serial number F94535BB01, was the 3649th manufactured during the 45th week of 1989 in Fremont, CA."

Man, there sure a lot of grumpy cynics on this forum, especially for one called MacRumors. It must be a horrible existence to be such a poison pill about everything.

It was a cool gesture by someone who uses and admires the products Apple makes. Indeed, it seems those products have played a formative role in that users life and livelihood, just like for so many people here. There was nothing fake about Tim’s response.

People have been conditioned by social media to be ugly about almost everything. Sad really.

I've noticed this too. Everyone is trying to get that "zing" comment! The one that gets the laughs or reactions - but we're all on macrumors (presumably) because we like Apple products. Tim Cook knows Apple and knows what this computer meant for the company even if he didn't touch it. He may not know the full backstory - but he's the CEO of Apple, he can appreciate the history of computing.
