Apple finds defect in Apple Watch "Key Component" - https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1876011/

Sounds like there was an issue with 'Taptic Engines' coming from one of the major suppliers. Apple has switched to a different supplier, but they're still trying to up their production scale. :(

Well that explains the slow rollout. At least we'll get a fully vetted product.

LOL....I tend to agree with this person. :D

I agree that that's how it should be done, however our orders for the band separately have a delivery window that ends before yours begin. I think it's odd to ship the separate ones first but if mine comes after my window ends I'm going to be upset.

Bracelets as Accesories

There haven been a number of posts speculating/wishing/demanding on receiving watches with Link Bracelets before accessory Link Bracelets are shipped. I don't think this reflects an accurate understanding of supply logistics. The Bracelets come off of a manufacturing line and then go into a packaging process. They will either be packaged together with watches or as accessories. The packaging process is another assembly line with it's own costs and need for material inputs.

Deciding upon the number of Link Bracelets to go into watch boxes versus accessory boxes is a planning and supply chain decision, as is the decision of how many Bracelets to produce. These are different boxes, perhaps different packaging lines, each with their own needs for supplies and labor. Today's manufacturing is based upon "Just in Time" delivery of parts (including fancy Apple boxes). If Apple delayed shipment of Accessory Bracelets, we might just end up waiting for the necessary additional watch boxes. :(

As Apple keeps saying, this is new for them. They don't know the relative ratios to produce. It is, however, unrealistic to expect Apple to tear down boxed accessories ready to ship, and repackage them with watches to ship that way. While it would be nice for us, it would be wasteful and expensive. Not Tim Cook's style.

I'm eager as heck for my watch, but it will come when it comes.

Let's all help one another chill. We are going to get good bands and working taptic engines. Who could ask for more (all of us actually).

I'm in a similar situation, gone for my wedding throughout almost the whole delivery window. My wife and I got them for each others wedding gifts. She loves her 38 SS with white sports band.

Congratulations on the wedding. I hope you have great day.

I can't imagine this is effecting the SS links. Watches are still being shipped out daily with what has to be the proper components. It's the 8 hours for each bracelet the Ive has to machine by hand.

Guys, the mods are trying to contain the discussions on the Taptic Engine bottlenecks to the thread that was created for it:
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1876017/

But, discussion of the impact of said engines to the SS Link watches is relevant to this thread, so...

Even though we are just now learning about the production issue, it doesn't sound like it's new. I expect this could be why we all got the 4-6 week delivery estimate from the very beginning.

And, logistically, it is plausible that this could affect one specific type of watch more than others.

That makes no sense. Why would it affect the link bracelets more than the other, easier to obtain SS models?

Ok, can we make this the last item on this topic, so we don't get the mods moving posts?

This affects ALL watches. ALL supply is constrained until they're able to ramp up the manufacturing rate of the company in Japan.

Order fulfillment will continue to be slow until the ramp is complete.

But if you think about the revenue and profit drivers at Apple, they will prioritize shipments of WATCHES with LINK BANDS versus just Link Bands since their revenues will be much higher shipping a $1,000 item versus a $450 item (i.e.-just the band). My vote is that the majority of the inventory of Link Bands are going to be shipped to the factory that is producing, boxing and shipping the Apple SS Watch. This could be a Flextronics or some other ODM in China. Then what's left over will be boxed and shipped to fulfill the separate accessory Link Band orders.

Then again, I could be wrong. But I doubt it.

And, no chance to defend my position? :(

Mods move threads, not posts. Again, if it affects all watches why are the link bracelete delayed but not the other SS models?

No activity today! Guess that UPS shipment was not filled with SS Links after all. I guess Sunday is the next watch out day for shipping notification
