Bricked... s4 cellular
German version if that matters...

Damn you apple!
Streaks will be gone (600 days...) and a lot more goals.

THIS !!, I am trying to think of how to keep streaks going without the watch. Does the phone do anything like this ?

SS-S4 (SB) stuck after attempting update. Chat with Apple support indicated they’re aware of the issue, but punted and told me to wait 24 hours.

Unfortunately not. You could potentially buy a watch until your replacement comes and then return it, but other than that there is nothing that can be done. It's all managed on the watch.

It’s 8.30pm here, no watch getting purchased before my goals and streaks evaporate in 3h30min. Like one of the others above, I opted for the express replacement which will get me a watch pretty quick, but not that quick...

Maybe it’s something that can be resolved on their end without replacing the watch? Doubtful, but maybe update froze at that point because it was trying to reach an external server.

That is horrible! I am at 778 days and I always worry about these things...I updated my S3 without any issues.

I lost several hundred back in my iPhone 5s days and that was tough...600 would be hard to lose.

If you get a replacement tomorrow, there is a way to salvage your goals. But it has to be tomorrow. You can go back in time and fill out your goals. If you get it tomorrow, message me and I can help you.

My S4 Cellular updated with no problem and in fact faster than any previous update. However at the very same time I updated (about 4 pm EDT) I was unable for several hours to send any email from any of my devices through the Apple server. Thus something was clearly wrong with at least some Apple servers this afternoon and I just wonder if there is any relationship to the Watch 5.1 update issue. Since some worked fine and some didn't perhaps it had something to do with which server you happened to connect to? Mail finally appears to be fixed.

Seems they pulled the update; I just tried to update my S3 (S4 updated fine) and it’s showing 5.0.1 as the current version.

Too late for me. Bricked my Apple Watch series 4 + cellular. Contact apple online chat, they are sending a box. At least I still have my back up watch (series 3), any issues with series 3 updating. I think it already downloaded the update.

Edit: nope. now it shows 5.01 is the current version.

I updated my s4 without any problems before 10 minutes ago.it took 15-20 minutes to finish the update no problems up to now

Hopefully the normal update process started and a current backup was performed, I won’t know until my replacement arrives or Apple does some kind of fix.
