Which is exactly what I did, and I've got a bricked Apple Watch S4.

EDIT: Nevermind, I see what you're saying now, you're saying it isn't possible to do it the other way anyway.
I installed watchOS 5.1 before installing iOS 12.1 today.

Mines bricked too. First time I've had a bricked Apple device. I got my through T-mo, so better off contacting Apple or T-mo for replacement?

Apple. TMO won't be able to help, unless its less than 14 days old.

I feel sorry for all you guys with bricked devices, i was planning to update my Apple devices right now but meehhh i'm gonna better wait a few days.

No issues with S3 and 5.1

To those who don’t have 5.1 yet, not to worry, you aren’t missing much. I’ve noticed really nothing new over the previous version. So 5.1 is nothing to get excited over

No problems with Series 1 42mm Space Black. I had to wait to charge it since I don't use mine everyday but the update was much faster than usual. Probably 15-20 minutes once it actually started.

While there is nothing new here for older watches, I'm sure this release has ironed out some bugs here and there. Always good to be on the latest firmware especially if you have Mac, iPhone, iPad, etc. That way you won't run into any problems with synching.

Bricked... s4 cellular
German version if that matters...

Damn you apple!
Streaks will be gone (600 days...) and a lot more goals.

My goals were gone when I transitioned from an S2 to my new S4. Apple’s support team wasn’t much help. All Move streaks (548+) gone, month end move streak is gone and month challenge is gone.

I do have previous completions from last months and challenges. But for this month they are gone. So I know how frustrating that is to loose all those streaks.

Add me to the list.... i sure wish i'd come here first.... live and learn

i updated my SS no problems, so them i started the update my my sport version and BRICKED

the first support gal didn't know about it... i was reading on here while online with her and saw where the update had been pulled so i told her... she passed me off to a sr advisory and he was like "i'm sure the other support person told you we've pulled the update" and I was like... NO... "I" told her!

UGH!

so he's like: I'm putting in a ticket, blah blah blah and I'm like: It's my understanding there is nothing that can be done and it needs to be replaced so why are we waiting and not replacing it?

so now i'm on hold cuz he's contacting some of his other so-called senior advisors....

UGH
[doublepost=1540951919][/doublepost]i told hubby to hold off on updating his (that was before i read that they pulled it)

Has bricked my S4 40mm aluminium...
I had just read Apple pulled it as mine was installing and what do you know. So disappointed. Going to Apple for a replacement.
Has nothing to do with Wi-Fi, was in the same room as AirPort. Had Watch plugged into my Mac charging and same with my iPhone.

mine is dead, chatting with Apple support now.

Mine too. Apple is doing an Express Exchange. We will see what their definition of express is. They made put a hold on my credit card for the amount of the watch.

Just finished updating my S3 (gps) to 5.1. It took less than 30 minutes. Updated iOS to 12.1 first then updated the watch. No issues.

Looks like I'm one of the unlucky ones. Mine is bricked too! Such BS. As soon as I couldn't get past the Apple logo I came here and saw the article. Wish I had known ahead of time - would've saved myself the headache. Went through the normal channels - online chat, spoke on phone and the person I spoke to was acting as if this the 1st time hearing of the issue. Said I'd need to make an Apple Genius Bar appointment to have them look at it. Really? You know what the issue is! Why he couldn't just start the replacement process now is beyond me. So the earliest appointment I could get (that is conducive to my work/life schedule) isn't until Saturday. Such a waste. I'll walk in there, they'll test it and then tell me it needs to be replaced. Which means I'll have to wait another week or so until I get a working watch again.
[doublepost=1540952576][/doublepost]Does anyone know if there is a way to power my paperweight down? Or will it stay on the apple logo screen until the battery dies?

I am one of the unlucky ones as well. My main concern with how long it will take to fix it is screen burn-in from the Apple logo. After trying multiple button combinations, I found one that works to power the watch off:

1. Hold the Digital Crown and the side button together until it powers off.
2. As soon as it goes to black, and before the Apple logo comes back, continue holding the side button, but let go of the Digital Crown.
3. When the Apple logo does appear, hold the crown down once again.
4. As soon as it’s back to black, let go of both buttons.

When I spoke to support, they made it seem that this would be a software only fix and not a swap. So it’s best to follow these steps, preserve the display and not risk a burned in logo.
