Hmm, so this bug persists also in the 9.2 RC. Not happy as I’m using the pace range quite a lot and it’s a nightmare to set it up 😒

Is this a 9.2 bug only? I have never tried these pace alerts (sounds kind of nice) but on my 9.1 software it seems to work fine

Yes I think it is - I’ve noticed that first in 9.2 Beta 3, it worked fine before.
I’m not very good at “feeling” and keeping pace by myself (ok - I’m pretty useless in that regard! 🤦‍♀️), so those alerts are a great help, especially when I want to keep it a bit slower than usually as well as keeping the HR decently low… but this bug would elevate my HR before I even start 😂😂😂
(rant over - fingers crossed that they fix it soon!)

So now that watchOS 9.2 is out: how do I access the „race route“ feature? Did not find it as an option for Outdoor running.
Or do I first have to run a route with 9.2 and previously ran routes are not available?

I see them when I press the 3 dots in the upper right of the screen.

While looking at the suggestions page, tap on the filter button < route
It took a while for the Watch to create them, it was not available right away after the update. Now I have around 3 routes, and they are pretty accurate! More than expected.

Thanks! Now the routes are there. Took one night until they showed up.

As I have unclear information: is track recognition mode now available with watchOS 9.2 in US or not?
If yes, can anyone please write something about it? How it works and experiences?
I find this super interesting. Thanks.

I don’t have the answer for you, only that I was wondering about this too. The Beta 9.2 didn’t detect the track for me, but I also wasn’t sure how to actually access that option. Now there’s a how-to document available:
The article doesn’t mention any regional limitations so hopefully the feature won’t be restricted to only some countries.

Thanks.

the5kRunner has an article on it. But the author has not seen the functionality yet, so the article is a little bit pointless:

But he also says it works in USA only. If I remember correctly, DC Rainmaker also said something similar and there is no timeline for Europe yet.

But for the US running mates here, please report happily. Still can not imagine clearly how it works, especially in interval workouts.

Boooo 😒 Apple hasn’t mentioned that tiny detail. Ah well, why should they… 🙄 - sorry, just venting. Thanks anyway!

Really strange.

DC Rainmakers video shows some things, but not all and I guess, this beta version is not what has been launched. The part where one can "do something" on the iPhone afterwards is entirely unclear to me.

The track feature is only available in the US to start with.

The "race route" feature is behaving strange for me. Was running a route yesterday I ran multiple times in the past. Today - after having the AW on charger all the night - this route is not available for racing. Not in suggested routes, not when applying the filter.

Is it working for you?

Additional question: what is this "lap track recognition" alert in "race route"?

I am gonna try a route today on my run - been snowing through the night, so no records here.

Regarding the lap track - sounds a bit like the new Track Recognition feature available in the US?

I don't have it here in Denmark, but looks awesome!

Yes someone already mentioned that here… too bad that Apple didn’t bother to. The feature marketing materials are even available in European languages without a single mention that it’s not available here yet! 🙄 (Yeah still grumpy about that…)

Completely agree

Maybe we are all wrong and the feature is available outside US?

Edit: the German AW manual explains track recognition mode without any hint that it is not available outside USA? Strange.

One should try it out. Sadly, I have no running track nearby in the next days.

I have also heard, that Apples GPS+Maps approach is the reason it's US only to start. I have a running track not far away - will try it out within a week.

So I visited a running track today, with an Open type of run, but nope, nothing. Based in Central Europe / Czech Republic. So unless it’s broken for me, it seems to confirm the rumour (?) that it’s not available outside of the US.

(Okay at least I’ve snatched the Local Legend laurel crown on the track’s Strava segment, so it wasn’t completely useless 😂)

DC Rainmaker wrote a little bit about the new features:

And track detection is really US only for the moment.
Not that I’d want to question it, but where does that info actually come from? I was trying to find anything about the feature’s regional availability on the Apple website but didn’t succeed. Various bloggers like this one are mentioning it but no official word on this topic anywhere… 🤔

DC Rainmaker has good contact to all vendors including Apple.

Also I now found release notes for watchOS 9.2 where Apple states it is US only:

I'll be trying a run at the weekend so can test out this new feature. Has anyone noticed if they've fixed the Average Pace bug where in 9.0 it would just announce the pace of your last lap rather than your average for the distance up until that point, then in 9.1 it announced nothing at all?
