Some Apple apps, like Weather, have already been updating in the background, right?

Would allowing other apps the same permission just bring them up to par?

I also would guess that keeping them in memory is more efficient than repeatedly reloading them from storage. I'm purely guessing on this, though; kinda thinking about how iOS manages multiple open apps.

The app dock has replaced glances. So I'm assuming because the side button is used for this it is no longer being used to access contacts?

I thought it was a good update of features. Kind of a smattering of things for lots of different groups of users (even those that will appreciate the Minnie Mouse I guess). I really had hoped for several watch faces with different positioning of the 5 minute increments, or numerals or hour/minute hands. Something that would be classy and appropriate for business or dress. Maybe next time... Am happy to add more complications than what we have but sure it won't apply to all the watch faces.

Will be curious to hear how developers like this iteration. I am a Friends button lover btw (use it all the time) so want to know what happened to it. Also curious to hear if the app dots are gone. I was never a fan of the look of it but it made a lot of sense to quickly navigate through the apps and now wondering if you're going to have to swipe through apps with the side button. I never kept many apps on my glances for the reason I didn't like to swipe a long list of apps.

i think the most exciting news came from the watch update... seriously

If apps do finally load quick and dock looks nice and convenient. scribble looks awesome when you can talk Dick Tracey style.

Hows the new Breathe app?

I'm really amazed that Apple made an app that encourages breathing exercises for health. Over the past year, I've been pretty into reading about yogic breathing and vipassana meditation. Never would have thought Apple would go this way.

Today's WWDC presentation was the most boring 2 hours I have spent in years! Where are the new products? The Watch needs to be redesigned to permit blood pressure readings and a better battery life--those fixes aren't apps, they require structural changes to the Watch. If Steve Jobs was still alive, somebody would have been fired for the farce put on today.

Can someone post pics of all the different complications on the photos face? Thanks.

Assuming we have two choices:

A) Apple Watch 2 with the still unoptimized wOS2

B) Apple Watch 1 with the vastly improved wOS3

Most AW owners would likely pick B). Personally I'm glad they focused on optimizing watchOS while they put the AW on the backburner.

I was hoping to buy the Watch that actually added value to what I need. What Apple announced today I can effectively get in a Fitbit for many fewer dollars.

Yes really. I got a Watch for Christmas and it took it back. I am waiting for a tool that records blood pressure, not a goofy step counter that my iPhone already has! And I want a device that has decent battery life unlike the current watch. Like I said above, Steve Jobs would be furious with this lack of creativity!

I like the work Apple has done on WatchOS. I would think the orig App page is still there, look how long we've had the same home App layout on iOS. Odd to me how Apple released the Watch and WatchOS 1 (and 2) with such slow loading, very unApple like. I think Apple is planning on wearables to be the new growth market maybe in a year or 2.

Show me a cuff that takes your blood pressure and is as comfortable and unobtrusive as a wristwatch.

Then, show me a feature-by-feature rundown of why a Fitbit "does just as much" as an Apple Watch.

Then, tell me why you think Apple is going to bother showing new hardware at a software conference.

Lastly, tell me why you are complaining so loudly when you had the opportunity to eat dinner tonight.

You're upset because you want a very specific feature (blood pressure) that only a subset of consumers would want or need. I know that it would be a valuable feature for sufferers of hypertension, but is such a thing even possible without a special cuff? Is there a Fitbit that can take your blood pressure?

Personally a Fitbit doesn't do enough for me. They are good fitness trackers, but not close to an Apple Watch as a smartwatch IMHO. Also, battery life is not an issue. The battery outlasts my iPhone 6 by a wide margin. Most of us still have 30-40% left at the end of an 18 hour day.

It sounds like you just don't value the smartwatch features as much as you just want a fitness tracker that can also take your blood pressure. I'm not sure why you think Steve Jobs would prefer such a device to the current Apple Watch.

None of my 3rd party complications work after updating, anyone else have this problem?

Edit: They work now never mind!

Honestly I'm more excited for watchOS3 than iOS 10. The AW got a much needed revamp! I'm very glad Apple decided to focus on the AW instead of simply releasing a second version to solve the problems that the first had.

The speed/background updating is huge. THIS was probably the top complaint about the AW. It was meant for quick actions and glances, but it was ridiculously slow on OS2. Instant app loading and information is how it should have been from day 1.

The side button now has an *actual* use. I know many of us here thought that its potential was wasted on a "Friends" function. Having the new dock makes so much more sense.

Also, responding to messages has always been a pain on the watch. I can't always use Siri and even when I do, she screws up the message most of the time. Scribble is the perfect feature for "typing" on the watch, and I'm so happy to see this implement.

And I can't forget about FINALLY getting a stock Reminders app! Why it took this long, I'll never know, but my prayers have been answered.

Seriously, all my complaints about the watch have just been addressed. I didn't get the Watchface store, but now that my watch will be immensely more functional, I don't think I'll mind too much.

I've been more excited about Watch OS updates ever since I bought my watch in July, 2015. I used to give iOS updates a week or two before installing (unless there was something really awesome), but now I'm all about installing the latest updates as soon as they are available!

If you think the Apple Watch is slow on OS2, did you try it on OS1? The OS2 update was a major performance upgrade. I actually find the watch to be quite responsive now, and I rarely find myself waiting more than a few seconds for an app to open and update. Of course I will be happy to see it go from a few seconds to practically instantaneous.

This. The only person I regularly need to contact quickly is my wife, and I can simply say "Hey Siri, text/call Jen."

I don't have any issues with the current implementation of iMessage. Even when I use Siri she seems to understand me most of the time. I do think Scribble will be very useful though. I'm not as sure about the Reminders. I use Due, which gives me quite a few options like setting auto-snooze options for specific reminders. I think the stock Reminders will be good, but probably not as good as some third party options.

Third party faces would be nice, but I'm pretty happy with the ability to put a complication on a photo face!

I know for a fact I constantly bring up the contact screen from the bottom button when doing a workout, I can see me accidentally calling 911..

I'm pretty sure you're trolling because how do you expect a watch to take blood pressure readings? Is there anything like that in existence in the medical field? No. Why? For one, no one takes blood pressure readings at the wrist. Also, blood pressure readings require squeezing the arm. You expect a watch to be able to squeeze?
