Apple leading the charge on minimalist design! Just another first!

How long till Microsoft rips them off?

Just a thought.

We've seen no beta's of iOS7 or the next OS X. We all predict that the combination will come at some point. Maybe this is the final step before we go full "iOSX". Maybe at this point we'll get one final OS X release but with Launchpad becoming the desktop, Dashboard finally being killed off and other tweaks to bring it inline with iOS

(note: I dont like this idea, but we all know its going to happen eventually, and Apple will bang on about the 'post pc era' being 'revolutionary' with a 'similfied magical' operating system to justify the 'dumbification' of OS X).

I quickly photoshopped the evolution of the X's: from thin over thick to ultrathin.

Ah, you beat me to it.
Anyway, here's mine with the actual colors from the Lion/ML logos:

By the way for those who dont know: Hevetica Neue Medium is the current system font of iOS.

I am REALLY into that font. I hope it is system wide on both iOS and Mac.

Helvetica is not open san serif. Would prefer Myriad Pro... I use Helvetica in my resume though, to make people think I am a serious guy lol

Im a graphic designer...

So you are a graphic designer and you don't think the typeface used in an advertisement matters?

Sure Helvetica might have been used a trillion times before, but that's because it's timeless and very aesthetically pleasing.

Gotham-like fonts are massively overused at the moment but that doesn't stop Microsoft jumping on the bandwagon.

Im a graphic designer, I know all about the font. Why do people care that its being used? Unless Apple is going back to 2003 when helvetica neue ultra light was used on everything in the world I fail to see why its significant.
2003? Even that was getting to the party late.

They could have been using it in their "1984" Ad.
