Getting a call still takes up the whole page and you have to click Waze why can’t it open in dash mode it’s so bad and dangerous

Yup, it’s the best system I’ve had in a car. So many ways to operate it. Voice, steering controls, touch screen, physical buttons, iDrive controller and even gesture controls which I use all the time.

The only item lacking in my system is the lack of CarPlay integration with my HUD. Frustratingly it works with the newer ID7 which I don’t have so I guess my next car will have this but I’ll have to wait 5 years or so as I don’t change all too often and I just forked out for the 5 series 3 years ago!

I can however still combine the excellent BMW navigation and CarPlay so I get all my HUD directions which is all that’s necessary to be honest.

yes, I have a new X7 and all the CarPlay nav instructions show on the HUD. I’ll have to see if Waze shows up on there on my way to work today. Very seamless.

Too bad Tesla doesn't give us this option to run it.

It doesn't make sense. It makes a lot more sense for Tesla's infotainment engineers to add the few features that CarPlay/Android Auto would offer as native features rather than to try shoehorning in what amounts to a remote desktop experience.

===

CarPlay has always been trying to cram way too much into way too small a screen. It appears to be getting worse, not better, with this update.

So what’s the benefit of using dashboard so you can see the song your playing even tho you can hear it, it’s a downgrade doesn’t show you the proper map
Some of us like to see the song playing. If you don’t like it you don’t have to use it, but I’m pretty much always in dashboard. I don’t need to see more on the left and right of the map since the only part I’m interested in is straight ahead. Dashboard also shows the next turn on a separate square (at least it does with Google maps) which to me is more useful than a full screen map. It’s also much easier to switch between the apps on your dashboard (if you want to go full screen with your map or music) as you don’t need to go to the app screen first.

But you can’t anwser calls from it which would be great you still have to switch back, you know what song your playing

I don’t your all understanding me, what would make it good if when you get a call it came up where the music is and can anwser without loosing the map, now it still answers then you have to go back to Waze which is bad when driving I just don’t see the point in seeing your music as you can hear what your playing lol

Wayz is junk !

In Uber on way into work this morning.
On DVP (Toronto) heading South, turning onto QEW and Wayz announces 'you're approaching a railway' LMAO. Makes no sense to alert the driver of this since we're driving OVER the railway on a bridge and we're on the HWY - meaning no contact with the railway in any way. Geez and people complained about the visual layout of Maps in its first year yet hail Wayz as the best mapping UI? SMH.

Maps of the future will be that of useful data:
faster routes,
more appropriate routes for ride sharing (If I'm at the top of a crescent the drive should approach with passenger doors on right-side of car towards me. I don't have to cross the road (winters especially) to get to the opposite side of the driver. Especially since I'll be also existing that side of the car anyway.
alerts based on common sense - like my real world experience above - makes no sense.

For a long time, Waze has not even been properly locating me. It'll show me on the map where I was yesterday or something and it won't update. Maps and Google Maps work fine.

It seems time has passed on CarPlay. Look at any major car brand today: they have nice integration with their instrument cluster and head-up display. CarPlay is relegated to some part of a center screen, and looks quite outdated.
Modern cars update their maps on a regular basis, online, there's no need for external navigation.
If you cling to an old car, sure, but any car model released in the last 4-5 years from any respectable car brand have no need or CarPlay, even if they do support it, it seems rather useless.

huh? my 2013 F150 had the older Sync2 without Carplay. a lot upgraded and retrofitted the newer Sync3 that came on the newer Fords to have Carplay. installed it a year ago and I love being in my truck now. it feels like a totally new and modern vehicle to me.

I've noticed that happening to me also.

I think you are meaning in essence like they have done in iOS14 on the phone where you now get a banner notification for calls to answer or reject rather than a full screen. I see where you are coming from but its one button press to go back to the dashboard view from full screen calling so compared to what a lot of folk are saying CarPlay should do its not a massive issue.

Cool all the updates coming to Carplay now. I recall my previous vehicle had it and it was very basic. I heard Microsoft Teams is coming to CarPlay too. Too bad Tesla doesn't give us this option to run it. Good anyway for all my friends here that have it in their cars.

Wait, Tesla doesn’t support CarPlay?

I can hear it yes, but I don’t always know the name of the track or the artist (you may not care, but I do). Sure answering calls from either a tile on the dashboard or a notification (similar to how texts currently work in CarPlay) would be a useful feature to add - Apple just added that functionality to their iPhones this year so maybe that feature will find its way to CarPlay eventually. Most vehicles have steering wheel controls to answer and hang up calls anyway.

Waze sometimes has an issue where it goes into sleep mode when I hook it up to carplay. I have to open it on my phone and exit sleep mode, then it works properly.

Can someone explain to me why would I want to use Waze over Google Maps or Apple Maps ?

What’s the point it makes map smaller and 2 out of 3 is Waze and for audio controls most cars have steering wheel controls to change track it doesn’t make anything better just not as much of the map
Podcasts-can now access the skip ahead/rewind buttons.

Police notification and construction notification is by far the best on Waze...even than Google which is supposed to have the same features, but it has never worked well for me.

Police notifications are the only thing Waze has done better for me than Apple Maps; Apple has consistently been better for traffic for me in my travels, however being able to be notified of the police is sorely missed.

I totally agree about traffic being great in Maps...and I use Maps almost exclusively.

I haven’t commuted in a few years and like Waze running in the background on long trips for notifications.

I tried Google, but it didn’t notify me of a single speed trap or construction zone despite passing many.

I do this too (on long trips only)...and wondering if that still works now
It works on my new 2021 Porsche Macan GTS. I actually prefer the Porsche implementation on some stuff, mainly the telephone (I can do everything via steering wheel controls instead of using the touch screen...), but launching WAZE and not quitting it while using the Porsche NAV is quite nice. Vocal reminders of RR crossings, red light cameras, etc...all the WAZE stuff in the background is nifty.
