Shouldn't some of those android's "Yes" be not yet also? Unless of course 2.2 has already started shipping. And the carrier choice is only limited to the states, you have a choice outside of the states.

2.2 is currently available for the N1. And yes outside the US you do get a Carrier Choice.. i've updated the list.

iPhone supports USB Tethering. Get your facts straight.

It also supports Carrier Choice, Customization (Whatever the heck that is), and turn-by-turn directions.

Many Android phones will never, ever support at least 3 of the features on your list, possibly even most android phones...

I think this is reference to allowing you to customize the way your phone's UI looks etc.... Which you really can't do without jb the phone. Even with 4.0 there will be limited customization.

But I would also argue, there is some customization, I mean if we are going to be nick picky about this......... One can customize the picture used on the lock screen, that would be considered customization.

Adobe doesn't need to optimize their code for every device, they just need to make the plug-in robust enough to take advantage of various hardware.

So why doesn't Flash work just as well on Mac's and PC's?

Your arguments still don't clarify why users shouldn't have a choice. Isn't that what being open is about: choice?

Users DO have choice, Andriod or iPhone OS. Apple have moved on from Flash. They're playing poker with $billions and they've just gone all in. Time will tell if they have the cards or not.

"tuffluffjimmy: Your arguments still don't clarify why users shouldn't have a choice. Isn't that what being open is about: choice?"

Users would have alot more "choices" if the web sites themselves didn't pick a single format for content delivery. That's the entire reason people think Flash is so important: in the past, it was rare for sites to support anything other than Flash for certain types of content. Now people act like supporting Flash = "choice". It's a crock, really.

Google can't do it for free, that is up to the carriers..

Hmm.. the video is kind of deceiving, nice of them to leave that part out, he made it sound like doesn't matter if your carrier supports it or not. You will get it, no extra bill etc. So if your carrier doesn't support tethering and you go to turn on your tethering option it won't let you! Ha..... But I would like it if AT&T doesn't charge for it thou.... I know it is a pipe dream but still a dream none the less.

iPhone also doesn't require you to manually re-download all your apps when you upgrade the OS. For that matter, iPhone actually has an upgradeable OS - with android you "takes your chances." (Having never upgraded the OS on an Android device, I'm taking Gruber's word for it).

Obviously you have never used Android. Having upgraded to froyo yesterday all my apps were still installed and working perfectly.

Flash is not there either and won't be there any time soon. On a mobile device that is.
Yep - HTML5 = Magic. Won't need no CPU or memory. It will just appear instantly. And every one will just continue to watch HTML5 videos - nothing more than they do with Flash. And even if they do more HTML5 will make it happen totally smoothly - I await the day when HTML5 will make it possible to finally solve world hunger. HTML5 isn't your random tech.

I think you make a very valid point. But don't you think that content providers will insist that their content is available on iPhone OS in the future?

Actual Scrolling and use of the apps on the Android still look like they are stuttering messes

b-b-b-b-bbbbbbut they have MORE CHOICE. Who cares if flash sucks to the point of ruining their web browsing experience and making their brand new android phone feel like a motorola razr.

Android phones are proud of their choice to suck. Can't you see? THEY HAVE CHOICE? Choice is everything man!

Note

Nexus One and HD2 both have a much faster processor and twice the RAM than 3GS. Yet froyo did not really perform that well even without flash.

So much for the google froyo hype.

What re-installing of apps? I applied the update without any issues like normal and all my apps were there waiting for me.. It's a quick and painless process.

I've used android, but not upgraded the OS. And it turns out I misquoted Gruber, so perhaps you can tell me if he's right. He was talking about moving from one device to another:

Android doesn’t have that. Upgrade to a new Android device, and there is no way to transfer your data from the old device to the new one.

I've never done that with android, so I don't know. I've done it many times with iPhone, however.
