The point was in relation to HTML5 rendering since the later build of WebKit has better support for it. Webkit is the OSS browser project with Apple as it's primary contributor that is used in Chrome and Android..I expect the released version of iPhone OS 4 will show similar HTML5 performance. They are running the same software, just different versions of it. You are welcome to test the difference in rendering performance on your own machine. (Windows or OSX)

To be clear you think it is accurate to compare a 2010 phone running a brand new os to a 2009 phone running a beta OS? You don't think it is possible the results would be different with similar hardware and the release version of iPhone OS 4?

first of all it was an ipad, a newer device. Second it probably wasn't running the beta OS. Finally I'm just saying if the new iphone beats the android can I be like the test was biased the iphone was running a better browser? So of course it would win, it's unfair.

What? Where's the video for the iPad? the 3GS is running the beta, because no iPhone OS yet supports background wallpaper on the icons. Either that or it's jailbroken, but I doubt it.

Froyo wins hands down. Not only is the browser faster but disabling/enabling Flash is simple. All they have to do is leave it disabled by default, power users can get it as they need it.

Pay attention Apple. You're about to get schooled.

Lawlz the fandroid thinks Froyo is good. Remember when people thought that about the Pre? How it was so much faster than the iPhone, and had Flash, and a physical keyboard too!

Then the 3Gs and 3.0 came out. And yet another 'iPhone killer' dropped into obscurity :)

i don't have the video follow the quotes back and ask the guy who originally said it beat an ipad at google i/o

The Pre is better than the iPhone. It's just under-appreciated and under-developed.

Froyo is better than 4.0 (from what we've seen). Comparing OSs to phones doesn't make sense, so we can compare 4.0 to Froyo, but not Froyo to iPhone 4.

The Pre was doomed from the start. It was on Sprint, a carrier few were willing to jump ship to, it didn't have a killer app, and people had little faith in Palm since the company was going under. Android has none of those issues.

I would be all over Android if it weren't backed by Google, a company I don't trust.

Great, then get an Andriod phone. There's no dilemma for you is there? By all accounts, the latest Android phones are much better in every way. So what's your problem?

Well I did sell the iPhone long time ago - My N1 is doing just great. And I don't think people come here to solve their personal problem. It's a discussion forum - where people can express their views and that should not be limited to Fanbois - dissident is OK. So in other words if Jobs and followers did not make outrageous claims to further their Agenda and instead just said we want Apple to make everyone's money and Flash doesn't let us do that - I wouldn't have to express anything, I will just continue to enjoy Froyo uninterrupted :)

I never said it was unfair, I indicated it is inaccurate. The best part of this is your arguing the nexus one did it better and the code improvements all almost certainly came from Apple. My point is when you compare the devices using the same version of Webkit, which is easy enough to do, then you can have an accurate test of the capabilities of the two devices.

The version of Webkit used in the test is not one that 99% of the end users of the Nexus one will use either. Are you catching on yet? Here is what happened:

Here is a complete history of the iPad versus Nexus One HTML 5 test:

-- Person doing test installs latest nightly build of Webkit on Nexus One.
-- Person doing test is too lazy to put latest nightly build of webkit on iPad. (Yes you can too, without Jailbreaking even, but either way since the Nexus one was probably rooted)
-- Uninformed people crow about how much faster the Nexus One is, even though the person performing the test does not actually reach that conclusion.
-- People ignore the fact that the testing methodology was biased and attack anyone pointing it out as a fanboy or a cry baby.

Forced into protecting the world from fanboys, with outrageous claims in the other direction. That way, it all cancels out! :)

But the iPad makes the Nexus One look like it's standing still, despite having a similar processor and half the ram...

I use an iPad daily. It does not make the Nexus One look like its standing still. Pages like this one can take a LONG time to load, and rather than scrolling in a jerky fashion, Apple masks it by putting up the checkerboard graphic. Lame for a device running on wifi. More proof that it's nothing more than a giant iPod Touch.

Amen. If Flash causes a majority of sites I go to to run poorly, I'll turn it off, but on the occasion that I want to go to a site, let's say IGN.com to watch a video review, I'll turn it on and enjoy the video, and then turn the plugin off again. It's a choice I'm going to love having. There's nothing more aggravating than using my wife's MAGICAL IPAD and being greeted with the PLEASE LOAD LATEST VERSION OF FLASH message all over the place when all I want to do is watch video reviews, trailers etc etc.

I know the fanboys hate choice, but as a real consumer, I want it.
Then you as a consumer should know what to do about it. [i.e., moaning and whining in a forum won't achieve much, other than make readers who already don't care feel even less empathetic. ;) ] The battle going on all around us at the moment is historic. Lacking the "choice" to have Flash suck down the performance of our mobile devices (during this transition period) is a small price to pay. If you don't like where Apple is taking the ball then go home. Buy something else and be happy... no one's stopping you. Hanging out at a Mac-oriented website calling people "fanboys" is just... so sad.

True that if and when HTML5, WebGL and other Open technology becomes capable of totally replacing Flash it would be preferable to use it over other proprietary alternative. But until that happens Flash is filling in for what Open web cannot do.

And I believe Flash spec is open - anyone can implement alternatives.

Telling people to use X instead of Y in the name of Openness never works - let alone if you have ulterior motives like Jobs has.

So Jobs can invest money to create open alternative to Flash that really makes it possible to do everything Flash does only better - then he wouldn't need to tell people what to use - Flash will die on it's own.

Until then it's all propaganda. But I have my doubts Jobs will let go of his App Store revenue by giving people an Open Flash replacement.
Yeah, so? Was there supposed to be some wisdom hiding in your words? What... if you were the CEO of Apple you'd be falling all over yourself to support Flash? That's nice.

The question is will MacRumors post a video of Flash when it does run smoothly???

And when all you are staring at blue boxes on your Apple devices, I will have the full Internet experience on my new EVO!:D

Steve do you hear me?

Blue boxes? They still sell those?

I was really looking forward to this video, 1st part is ok, but 2nd part not that good.

Things to fix and make part 3:
- don't use opera, it always uses a proxy
- run 1 test/device at a time. There is only one hotspot with one internet connection
- use a stop watch or something like that, don't trust your "one mississipi, two mississipi, ..." clock
- compare froyo browser with android 2.1 in the same hardware

Hopping a part 4 with iPhone 4g could be made too.

This is a key factor!

I did an experiment, I loaded a page with IMAGES on one phone, and the same page WITHOUT IMAGES, on a different phone. The results where as SURPRISING as the ones here. The phone WITHOUT IMAGES loaded A LOT faster! Can you even believe it?

Many replies here are missing the bandwidth issue with loading the flash content.

Of course - if network bandwidth is a factor downloading the "full internet experience" will be slower than downloading Apple's "just the Internet that we approve".

This has no bearing on The Steve's claim that Flash is a battery-sucking pig - it's simply obvious that downloading Flash content needs more bandwidth that downloading only the Apple-approved parts of the site.
