You have freedom of choice - Buy something else. It's so simple, Apple is taking away nobody's choice. It's a free market folks - Buy whatever you want, Apple isn't stopping you. If Apple doesn't offer a feature like Flash that you want, don't buy the product; See how simple it is to show Apple that you want Flash?

On a side note, I'd really like them to re-do this test with the final version of the OS that's currently shipping; They've got iPhone OS 4.0 Beta loaded on that iPhone.

As far as browser speed, why don't we wait a few days until the new iPhone comes out. Think maybe that will make a difference?

Are the 3 phones in this test identical as far as the specs go?

The iPhone used is basically a year old ...

Yep. Then if you wait a couple of more months, the new generation of Android phones will start coming out, all based on Tegra 2 and Intel Atom Z6. Which will make the new iPhone HD hardware seem like a year old again.

Flash will, of course, run better on the Tegra 2 and Intel Atom Z6.

The place where Flash will really be needed, is on the bigger screens of the slew of Android tablets coming out with these chips.

Then, the iPad will look like a year old, too.

Apple doesn't need or want it and I tend to agree. The end of the world didn't come, dogs still hate cats. I think al is fine.

I think it isn't all fine since I splashed close to £200 on iDevice at the time when reports were coming that Apple and Adobe are working on Flash player...

I would have never bought it if I knew back then that Steve simply doesn't want to allow it running on iOS...

So while all is fine for you - it isn't all fine for me and millions of others who will soon see their friends mobile / portable devices running flash content while their oh wow super cool iDevice is still stuck on blue lego box...

In any case - I have much better things to do then post to this thread!

Laterz ;)

They want the whole web - not just the Apple-approved parts of the web.

I'm not sure what you're saying here... do you think Apple is trying to control what users see on the web? Maybe trying to censor the web? That's a pretty odd assumption you're making there.

Typical fanboy answer, you don't want or need flash because Steve jobs said you don't want or need flash.

Actually, no. I have disabled flash on all my computers for years. I don't want and don't need flash. Has nothing to do with Steve Jobs.

That's your problem. This my last reply. Enjoy your "full web experience".

Really?

Read my previous post...

Also, do you really think that I would even consider buying any iDevice now that Flash is running on other devices!?!?!?!

LOL :D

OK, off now...

Freedom + Choice = Freedom of Choice

Lord Vader indeed :D

Lets see what happens, I think content providers will want their content on iPhone OS devices, we're living in a world where Flash is no longer ubiquitous, (even on Andriod phones if the user doesn't download it) and therefore Flash will be, and is being, dropped by the people that matter... the ones paying for web development. So, evolve or die!

You do know there are other ways of providing content on the web, right?

BS.

Flash is more heavily used than ever, even though most mobile devices didn't have full Flash capabilities until now.

When the iPhone becomes the only platform without Flash, companies will likely stop even developing mobile versions of their sites.

Jobs hates Flash and Java, because both can bypass his walled garden (and he can't collect his 30% of your dollar). He went on his bizarre attack against Adobe, because he knew that the iPhone and the iPad were going to soon be the only devices without Flash.

But, as you said: evolve or die!

So just because YOU don't like the Flash millions of iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad owners need to have no CHOICE of installing the plug in if they want to!?

Nobody is forcing them to buy an iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad. Go get your Android and stop trolling.

Problem is, however, that I am being FORCED not to have an option to install Flash Player on my devices...

Freedom + Choice = Freedom of Choice

It is a proprietary, closed system. You're also being 'forced' to Safari, the rounded icons, the Stocks app...

It is not for you, get over it.

...And talking about choice.

I don't like being force-fed flash content either. A website that relies on a third party plugin, no matter how widespread, has a serious design flaw. Of course, not everyone is all for accessibility, semantics, separation of content, presentation and functionality.

I agree HTML5 is not yet up to what most of us are used to in terms of animation. But if we crave for the flash heroine forever, it's never gonna change. Google has now dealt a 'fix' for many. Hopefully it does not become a 'relapse' for others :)

Death to flash!! :D

I don′t understand why so many Apple haters read and post here. I can′t imagine myself going to Android forums or Windowslovers.com forums and f***ing with people. I stay in the forums that INTEREST me and in the technology/singers/bands/games forums that I am a fan of.

So, buzz off and go talk about what you like. Not bitch around here.

You want the lousy flash? There is choice! Bye, bye :p

You do know that Steve doesn't allow you, me and others to see half of the web today (and tomorrow) and that Google does, right?

lol. You can keep your Flash on your Android platform, no one's taking that from you. I'll keep my non-Flash iPhone right in my pocket knowing that I'll never have to worry about a page taking forever to load because of Flash-based adverts clogging up the sites and keeping me from browsing flawlessly. So you go off and collectively giggle with all the other Googlers and marvel at the magnificence of sub-par Flash on those new phones of yours. :D

...

But you like being force-fed BS?! And like to repeat it?

There are many valid purposes for using Flash, and this is why Flash is so widely used. Even when HTML5 becomes more widespread, Flash will continue to thrive, because it is an efficient method to deploy certain desirable content to the widest possible audience.

And to most people, this is a good thing. In a year, all smart phone and tablet platforms will have full Flash, running smoothly on Cortex A9 and Atom Z6 chips, and the iDevices will be the only ones without full web access. That's why my current 3Gs is my last iPurchase.

Oh, and you forgot that the only really popular Webkit browser, Chrome, has Flash built-in nowadays....

I never realized that more content loads slower than less content, but finally this speed test brought me this inconvenient truth. Now THIS is really an argument againist flash! And JPEG. And GIF, and PNG. Actually, those pesky text paragraphs take their time to load too, eh!

Back to the grave :apple:

Are you for real? Watch the video again.

The browsing experience was trashed AFTER flash loaded.

Flash, no flash. Give a crap, don't give a crap.

Think I'll not give a crap.

I can't say I've missed flash on any of the smart phones I've had over the last four years. I can only remember about one page where I couldn't see the content I wanted to see. YMMV.

Wouldn't mind if Flash was on my phone, if it worked well.

What I see in that video is flash not working well.

Crappy, laggy scrolling, and some dodgy "pinch to zoom" thing where you have to get the flash element to just the right size so that you can interact with it.

I can't think of any content on the webz that would make me willing to tolerate that totally ***** performance.

3 years after the iPhone debuted, and this is the best Adobe can do? Sad!

Typical fanboy answer, you don't want or need flash because Steve jobs said you don't want or need flash.

Hey. I don't want or need flash because I don't want or need dancing elephants selling subprime mortgages (or sub-par investment advice) while I try to read THE TEXT of a newspaper online.

And what is that suppose to mean!?!?!

It is OBVIOUS that this site has nothing to do with objective, unbiased, journalism...

If they are objective and unbiased then they would surely report such important news in very different way indeed...

Fact!

I'm glad i'm not the only person who's noticed how one sided this sites news has become.

The reporters here will post articles about the issues they find on other devices, but they will never post the positives. Same goes with Apple products just in reverse. They only post the good things and hype but rarely if ever post the bad.

That's why you have head to filter and analize.

Hmmm, some tech reviewer. He says that the ability to click on and play YouTube videos from within the browser is a feature of the 4.0 beta? Funny because I've been using that for a long time. Like since OS 2.0.

I get why this was posted—to show the crappy performance of Flash on Android. But as for his tests, wow. My non-techie teenage sister could have made a better test video if she had those phones. It was just strange.

Also, the iPhone really needs a higher resolution screen. Only a few more weeks!

A very weak attempt at discrediting Flash. It's no surprise that the pages took longer to load since they had more to load. We can't compare with HTML 5 yet. He seems to have more or less skipped over the smooth playback which is the important thing and focussed on the largely irrelevant choppy scrolling. Really, is smooth scrolling more important than the content? He didn't do any tests to show how it affected battery life. He admitted that it's a beta but this article headline makes no mention of that. He admitted he had been using a lot of applications before using Flash on the Nexus One, but blamed Flash for his memory error.

All these people saying they can do without flash are probably right but you can turn off images as well and it won't break the internet, it just restricts your options. Things like that Amazon product video, or this site:

http://www.work-club.com/blackboard/

There are many things on the internet that are in Flash and aren't junk.

Oh and of the 10 or so tech sites that I read daily, macrumors is the only one that thinks this is news.
