As others have noted, it’s going to be more challenging for updated iPad Pros this release, given how high the bar was set by the M1 Macs, in both performance and price. We know the performance of the last gen iPad Pros was already stellar, but the M1’s have upped the ante with extended battery life AND power/performance that I worry the new iPP’s are going to have a difficult time competing with. If they can’t bump the battery life up towards the 16 to 18 hour range, I’ll end up ordering an M1 MBA and keep my 2018 iPP 12.9” for after hours use.
The real way to make the iPads maintain value is to capitalize on the switch the same processors in the MacBooks. Make the iPad Pros a tablet with touch obviously, but also allow them to dock via an optional docking port/station that connects the iPad to a monitor, keyboard and mouse.

If they don’t do something like this, I’d have to wonder why they bothered to make the Macs able to run iPad apps.

If there is 9th Gen iPad at the event then it’s a close tie for iPad 3 and iPad 8 to see which one has a shorter lifespan before a successor got revealed too soon after they’re releases

This whole ‘report’ smells like BS. I could have believed it, up until they said we would be getting a ‘preview’ of new AirPods and a new entry-level iPad. First, Apple never previews device upgrades. Why? It will tank the sales of the current device. The only exception was the Mac Pro but after 6 years on the market the only people who were buying the trash can were those who really needed it and Apple knew that.

As far as the entry-level iPad is concerned, Apple *just* updated it 6 months ago along with the iPad Air. It was a pretty big bump from the A10 to the A12. Where would Apple go with it?

If Apple increases the price I think it would only be on the cellular model due to 5G. See what they did to the iPhone 12.
Airpods and Airpods Pro have been on a continuous sale from most UK outlets for months. Retailers know they need to clear the stock.

Yeah, I think the Magic Keyboard is the start of a base for the iPad Pros, but it could use more I/O to allow for greater expansion to monitors, storage, etc. than just the two USB-C ports currently. Some of these things could / should be done via 3rd party.

Micro-LED would be awesome, and an increase in performance would be cool.

But unless the OS is improved/gives more features, I don’t really think there’s a need to upgrade, is there?
Exactly. I’m not buying any new iPad hardware until there’s significant software improvements.

Thunderbolt port is great and all, but what use is it currently? Better external monitor support and maybe there’s something there...even then though there’s still a lot needed on iPadOS for it to become more than a media consumption device.

Apple is planning to launch a new entry-level iPad, iPad mini, and iPad Pro at its "Spring Loaded" event tomorrow, along with "a few surprises," according to Wedbush analysts.

iPad-Pro-Feature-Orange.jpg

In a new note to investors, seen by MacRumors, Wedbush analysts Daniel Ives and Strecker Backe explained that the iPad will be the main focus of Apple's "Spring Loaded" event, with new entry-level iPad, iPad mini, and iPad Pro models being announced.

The 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro will apparently be receiving "significant changes," including the A14X chip and a "game-changing" mini-LED display for the 12.9-inch model, allowing for better color performance, dimming capabilities, and higher contrast.

While the entry-level iPad and the iPad mini will see "consistent pricing" compared to the current models, the iPad Pro models will apparently have "modest price increases" over the current versions.

While the new iPads will be the main focus of the event, Wedbush believes that "there could be a few surprises," including new iMacs with a range of color options, an updated Apple Pencil, and the long-awaited AirTags item trackers.

Moreover, third-generation AirPods are expected to be teased at the event, but will not be launched immediately. The AirPods 3 are instead expected to be launched "in a separate virtual event in the early summer timeframe," which may be referring to WWDC, starting on June 7.

This may explain some of the uncertainty around the launch of the third-generation AirPods, with some leaked images and reports claiming that launch is imminent, while others have said that they will not enter production until the third quarter of 2021. Nonetheless, it is not clear why Apple would announce new AirPods but not launch them for several months, suppressing the sales of the current model in the process.

MacRumors will provide live coverage of the "Spring Loaded" Apple event both here on MacRumors.com and through our MacRumorsLive Twitter account.

Hang on a second. "AirPods 3 to be teased at the event, (but) instead expected to be launched in a separate virtual event in the early summer timeframe"? Why will Apple forgo 2-3 months of AirPods sales by teasing that something is coming, but we'll show you the thing in 2-3 months? Sorry, but this discredits the report IMO, so I'd question all the other stuff in it, including the 'modest' price hike.

These price articles go up a day or two before to prime our minds making us used to the impending price hike. This strategy never fails and we are here from $400 launch price of iPhone. 😅

The top level iPad Pro better have some type of "modest" macOS or Pro Application support as well in that case.

I am desperate for a new iPad Mini and will set for minor upgrades: A14 SoC, duel speakers(one on each end) and 6GB RAM. That is it. My current iPad Mini 4 battery is shot. I using my iPad Pro now! Otherwise, I taking it to Apple store for a new battery or refurbished iPad Mini.

Well the M1 MBP weights 3lbs and the iPad Pro weighs 1lb. If you want 16-18hrs battery life the iPad Pro is gonna weigh 2lbs. IMO
Did you factor in the weight of the Magic Keyboard and the pencil? The keyboard weights more than the iPad.

Also, who is moving the thing in this working from home game anyway? I haven‘t moved my MBP for over 15 months.

They will not give it 6GB, max 3-4GB for the Mini. Giving it too much will allow the mini to live too long.

More incentive to get the Magic Keyboard if they did this.

Everything is living longer, even humans, why the God Apple not going to do this 6GB for the iPad Mini? It is Apple's least refreshed model in their product line up and it still going be using the same Mini chassis dating back to 2014? Apple takes sometime a good 3 year to release another refresh too! Apple owes it to loyal Mini users that suffer through the long time frame till they decide to release another!

I think it’d be a HUGE mistake for apple to only give the 12.9” iPad Promthe mini LED and not the 11” iPad Pro too. The whole point is to get more creative users to upgrade to the pro ipad. Not everyone is going to want the larger iPad Pro. So if you don’t give the 11” ipad pro the same features, those people won’t upgrade.

There has to be... there is as much utility in bringing iPad apps to the Mac that there is in bringing Mac apps to the iPad. Let's see what iPadOS 15 brings...
