iPod touch Week 38 = Good iPods?

9C737XXXXXX just got mine today. I did a couple of test videos and saw no negative effect
the hiss is annoying but honestly if you are playing it loud enough to hear the hiss you are damaging your eardrums.
I will have to play it on the theatre sound system next week while i work on Aida, the musical to see how annoying the hiss really is.

Well I am just going to return my week 37 this weekend. If they don't have any week 38's I will ask for a refund and order online.
Figures as much. I couldnt wait for Costco to get them in. I called the Lenox mall apple store they got them in today. I rushed over & got a 16 gb one ( typing on it now). Sure enough it is a 37 week one with a screen issue. Uggh. Maybe I'll see if costco gets in 38 week ones or the apple store first.

Until I see that Jay-Z album cover on a week 38, I'm not convinced that there isn't the same problem.
The people with the week 38's might not know what to look for. Let's see some pictures of the same stuff as the 37's had, and compare.

My week 37 looks like crap with the blacks, but not a SINGLE person I have shown it to has said anything, they think it's amazing even when I purposely show them a really dark movie to see if they complain.

It will be interesting to see if Best Buy and Costco, both of who are supposed to get units this week get week 37 or week 38.
It's also entirely possible that Apple has purged the bad week 37s from the shipping line and the 37s that do go out from here on out have been confirmed to have good screens.

None of those pics are straight-on. All the ipods look fine when tilted. Unless it's a dead on, top down shot, you can't judge correctly.
In all likelihood they are air shipping them from China right now (it's a small, light, cheap to ship device, especially in large quantities).
They would go to a distribution center and then get parted out for the different retailers.
Sometimes retailers (BB) who commit to order a certain quantity of them would get a larger initial allocation. This would explain BB getting them "1st".
It's also possible that Apple is having the units drop shipped direct from China straight to the retail distribution center. This is also common.
So lets say Apple builds 20,000 units in a week. That entire allocation might go to their own stores and BB.
Then they build 20K units the following week.
5K go to their Apple stores
5K go to BB
3K go to Costco
3K go to Circuit City
3K go to International Market
1K go to Target or Walmart, or whoever
and smaller retailers still don't get any.
For the first month it will be very hit and miss on which retailers have these.
He obviously says they're fine and has experience with a bad-screened model, so it might be worth taking him at his word.
I bought my week 37 on the 14th. I am going to wait until some good cases are out and return it for a nice new (week 38 or later)completely unblemished iPod and put it straight into my case. I have some minor marks from normal use on my week 37 but I doubt they will say anything about them. They are more like micro-scratches, hell they may even come off/disappear with the cleaning rag....we shall see.
ARGH. Yes. This is my 4th touch. None had a hissing problem... but of course finally now that I have a good screen, this one hisses like crazy. This is pissing me the hell off. 5 trips to the apple store now, for an iPod? Come on.
There is hiss. hmm its hard to explain. if i put the player on pause and then bring up the volume all the way then I hear it. But i would NEVER listen at that level. I listen at less than 50%. The iPods put out volume around 114dB. Thats BAD.
So I listen at 65dB. This device will output 110dB at the same point in the song.
at 65dB I don't hear any hiss if I put it on pause.
at 114db the hiss doesn't even register on the dB meter.
I don't start hearing the hiss (on pause) until 97dB.
I hope that makes some sense. I'm using the apple earbuds... for now. RadioShack Sound Level Meter (SPL)
