So I have a week 37 I bought from BB..

can I take it back and not pay a restocking fee, and just trade it in? Is there a way to see if the new one is a week 37 or 38 without opening it?

Hell, plug your headphones in.

I noticed mine the second I put my phones in. It is NOT quiet. I am angry now. Sorry.

I don't have hiss then. Do you have a laptop? With all of your problems my advice is to bring in your laptop to get the sync and check it in store.

"WHEN" you find a working one the device is quite amazing.

this is a week 37 ipod touch , is the screen bad? i dont know how to tell the difference.

If you can't hear it do you really have to test it out?

Well.....yes. I don't believe Apple is help society out by making an iPod which outputs over 95dB....why any sane person would need such volume is beyond me. I'm a sound engineer for a living and those guys try to avoid 95dB so when I 'hear' iPods at 10 feet (note im NOT wearing it) THATS a problem....least I think so.

I have hearing damage, so I couldn't agree with you more. However, I'm not sure what this has to do with whether or not you can hear hissing at normal listening levels.

Touches made from week 36 and 37 have Corinne Bailey Rae on the front, whilst the week 38 ipods have Macy Gray (although some are still using the Corinne box).

Yeah, I have a 38 and the Corinne box picture.

hhaah as I got done posting that i remember thinking "what does that have to do with what jmpage2 asked?"

Sorry I want to play it back on a real sound system so if there was a minimal amount of hiss i am guessing I would be able to hear it more on a real sound system. so I was thinking if I can listen comfortably at 65dB for me and then plug that into a sound system would there be hiss because the signal is amplified. Maybe that doesn't make sense? sorry if it doesn't

Here are two pics. It's incredibly how the screen quality is so different. They were both taken from directly above the same distance away.

Well I preordered my Touch minutes after the store came back online and I am getting a week 37. :( I guess I will have to make the 2 hour trip to an Apple store in a week or two once they get the week 38's instock to trade mine in.

Refuse shipment. Call apple and they will tell you how to do this.

Looks like I finally got some satisfaction. Tested in store... no hiss, good screen. Going to sync now and test again after just to verify.

Well I might as well use it for now since I have waited this long and then I will just swap it out if it has the problem. I got $50 off so if I refuse the shipment then I won't get that price again.

My final verdict

Well... there is definitely still a hissing, but on this iPod it can only be heard if the volume is all the way up (which really, should be too loud for anyone with good hearing... but I still think its a defect.) Additionally, I don't think the screens are fixed in week 38s completely. This one has a much, much, much better screen than the last 4, but I think if I said there was no negative effect on blacks I'd be fooling myself. These things need some serious QA work done. I concede defeat to Apple. I'm not going back a fifth (or sixth, I've lost count) time.

You win, Jobs. This time! :p

is it just me or is something not right here.
week 38 is this week right??
this week began on the 17th.
If people in china were making iPods last week with defective screens and now this week they started making them properly, how have apple managed to ship the "38 week" iPods all over the country in 4 days??

Does a "38 week" iPod mean it was esembled in week 38??

If this isnt the case and the iPods where made more than a week ago, then Apple must have known that the iPods they were shipping where defective??

Ive got a 16GB touch reserved for me at my local apple reseller (UK). I really hope when I go to pick it up tomorrow that its a "week 38" model.
There is this modern mode of transit called an airplane. Sometimes, when people want to get goods from point a to point b quickly, they put them on these planes. Many times, goods can arrive in just a few days, including clearing customs........

Sorry, i couldn't resist. I mean no harm.
