Thanks for the insight jmpage2.

There seem to be a lot of people saying "mine has just shipped from China", which is what got me wondering whether they'd bought them normally and were seeing that on the package tracking, or if they'd bought them directly from China somehow.

I do feel safer with the online order then I would going to a store which has had week 36/37 boxes sat around in storage.

There is hiss. hmm its hard to explain. if i put the player on pause and then bring up the volume all the way then I hear it. But i would NEVER listen at that level. I listen at less than 50%. The iPods put out volume around 114dB. Thats BAD.

Ya these ipods are LOUD! So much louder than my 5.5G

None of those pics are straight-on. All the ipods look fine when tilted. Unless it's a dead on, top down shot, you can't judge correctly.

yea but if you look at it from a defective model....its MUUUCCCCHHHHH worse.....so glad i just sold off my smei defective week 37 and recieving my week 38 tomorrow :):):)

Here it is, the conclusive and ever elusive 'Week 36 vs. Week 38' comparison pic-

Is the problem only with the negative blacks?

I have a question. I don't know if this is an ipod touch problem. I have a "37" serial iPod touch. I do not see the "negative" black effect but my 3G Nano blows the damn thing away in terms of brightness in terms of dark screens. You can turn up the brightness all the way on a 3G nano and see the darkest of scenes. Is this a problem with the ipod touch screen or is the new nano just brighter (maybe also because the screen is smaller?)? Thanks very much in advance for your help.

also it would be nice to have a week 36er and a week 37er right next to eachother... oh well.

Thats awesome evidence btw!

Thanks!

I think triela's explanation will help you:

I purchased a Week 37 Touch ("Corinne" Box) from a NYC Apple Store, and I thought that I didn't have a bad screen because almost everything looked fine except for heavy blacks. I didn't get much noticeable negative effect either, even when viewing videos.

I received a Week 38 Touch (also "Corinne" Box) from the Apple Online Store. I've been doing further side-by-side comparisons, and for those of you who think the Week 37 Touches are perfectly fine, like I did -- make sure you get yours exchanged at some point. Absolutely.

You really can't understand what a vast improvement there is in shadow detail and display of blacks on my Week 38 Touch compared to my Week 37 Touch unless you do an in-person side-by-side comparison of identical images/video. Remember, I didn't really experience "negative" effects and I had thought bright colors were fantastic, and after a while I convinced myself that I was not in the "problem" group. I'm incredibly relieved that I was able to see side-by-side and not "settle" on the Week 37 screen quality.

apple order

is there any way to know if the one that is being shipped to be is a week 36 or a week 38?

nm

I found it, its a week 38 that is being shipped to me as I hold my week 37 in my hands. Should I take it back to best buy and keep the week 38 one that is being shipped from apple?

Thanks,
Arisian

(sorry about the string of dumb questions:( )

What, you got a week 36 flux capacitor?:(

Hahaha. I laughed .. guess that makes me a geek :(

Though to be a *real* geek you have to laugh at that sentence, and still remember what it means, in 5 years' time.

I'm just worried that my flux capacitor was produced during the Taiwanese industrial espionage plague of circa 2000.
