i just got my week 38. Works perfectly, and i checked the screen against calibration tests and the movie Renaissance.

iPod touch Week 38 = Good iPods?

I took my week 36 negative screen touch to an Apple Genius today. The second I mentioned it, he was well aware of the problem. He said they've put out a notice to hold selling current stock and wait for a fresh batch. Since they didn't have any good touches in stock, I received a full refund.
After receiving my refund, I drove across the street to the Best Buy at the King of Prussia Mall, walked in, and picked up a fresh week 38. The screen is beautiful. No negatives and the colors looks sharper.
Just as others have reported, I received a Corinne version box. There are also stickers where my old box had the serial numbers printed directly on the box.
Anyway, I'm completely satisfied now. If you need to exchange or want to buy a touch, don't settle for anything under week 38.

All the week 38 models with the new box cover are perfect. Bestbuy was the only that I found that had them. I got a 8gig and 16gig. Both work perfect.
I received my 16G preorder this morning and, naturally, wanted to test out the screen to see if it's got the issue.
It's nothing major, but I think there is an issue with blacks (for instance, the Jay-Z album cover... some dark areas of movies), but I don't have another device (other than my MacBook) to compare it to...

I traded my week 37 Corinne Bailey Rae for a week 38 CBR and it looks good. Best Buy in Nashua, NH had 13. They handed me a week 37 Macy Gray and I asked them to get me a week 38 one, which they did. Week 37's are still out there. Best Buy just received their shipment today (9/21).
Well, if it looks normal, then good. That's all I needed to hear (read). Thanks. haha
I did compare it to my 5.5g iPod and the blacks looked richer and had better contrast, it seemed, on the iPod (5.5g). I don't know if that's just because they're different screens, though. I'll probably head into the Apple Store and compare to an iPhone or something before I get worried.

The boxes are irrelevant. Just make sure is is a week 38+
Sorry, but you're wrong about that. My week 38 still has the screen issue. To a much lesser extent, but its still there. There are a few others in these forums with negative black displaying week 38 models.

Week 38 8GB picked up at Best Buy today - I ordered a 16GB through their .com site but in typical Best Buy fashion they sold the last 16GB despite sending me the confirmation email that it was in stock and available for pick up. Of course I then drove 15 miles to the Best Buy to find out that it wasn't in stock. I proceeded to verbally rape the manager leading to him giving me an 8GB until the 16GB comes back in stock.
In the end though, this week 38 8GB has a perfect screen.

wrong , mine is a week 37 but with a Macy Gray box and it works fine , no screen issues , no hissing sounds
