An OS X App Store would be nice without the app approval. But yes, the idea of having a centralized store for Mac applications would be nice.

As long as:

1) you can use more stores than just the Apple Mac OS X App Store (3rd party stores),
2) you can continue to "sideload" (ie. standard "install on your own") apps

then I'd be VERY in favor of a Mac App store. But, as someone else already pointed out, that SORT OF already exists. It would just need to be re-vamped and marketed better.

so many apple employee shown the door.
i guess it is a wonderful place to work in.

Woz is not "anyone outside". Without him Apple would likely not exist today.

If even he is not considered trustworthy enough to be shown an iPad for two minutes and if someone gets fired for doing this, I really wonder why *he* still wants to be an employe at Apple.

Something like Steam for games.

As one of the sources of these "wild rumours" I am agreed, I don't know if Jobs was actually referring specifically to the suggestion of a Mac Store but more likely to what Rixstep had "announced"; a policy in which every app on a Mac had to be authorised by Apple no matter what.

MacRumors aren't really reporting accurately here, although with Rixstep's claims being quashed now we simply are without anything to suggest an iTunes Mac Store[/i] is in the works. The only reason now to think it might happen is because it seemingly makes a lot of sense.

You are missing the bigger picture. Easier access to apps. Also, a rating system on many of them. No hunting down on Google. Centralized Payment system.

Honestly, what's not to love?

Well, for starters, apps would be 43% more expensive to allow the devs to make the same profits after Apple takes a 30% cut, for one. $1000 software available for $1430, but hooray, you don't have to use Google to find it!

Secondly, if it's not compulsory to use, then it's not a one-stop repository for apps that you want it to be. You would still have to hunt it down on Google. If it were compulsory for all developers to use, then you have the problem of the 43% price hike for consumers, as well as the whole approval thing, as Apple now have their reputation on the line for these apps.

Yeah but since it wouldn't be the primary way to acquire apps (because there will still be CDs and paid downloads from websites like Adobe.com), it would stay small and it wouldn't get as revolutionary as Apple wants things to be, and as we know them, they either make something super-huge or they don't do it at all... :D

By the way, Steam for Mac in April: it's the 26th of April and still no news? Is that normal? They better release it before the end of April!

Wow that's a bit extreme...the guy is a dirty rat in your eyes?

It was the day of release, and he was allowed to take it. He showed Steve Wozniack. Come on now. There is more to this story on another site, and it's pretty lame. Steve Jobs is a bad dude, there really is no two ways about it.

Regardless, it could have ended up in the wrong hands, and the fact Woz was photographed with it raised questions on how he ended up with it.. most speculating he got it early.

If he was prepared to show Woz, who else would he show it to? He broke the trust end of.

His own stupidity..

26th of April in Apple Mean Time is about 29/05, sorry!

What a horrible draconian weekend this was!

Marked with bold thick negative

Makes you think of 1984 Apple advert and hypocrisy...

:confused:if that guy was fired for showing woz the ipad thats just bad especially of all the people to show it to the guy is still held in high regard by the apple community THAT JUST SUCKS APPLE ! the guy that fired him should be fired for giving apple bad press coverage .

Apple are no longer supporting the download section. No longer taking submissions and not updating it. This is why rumours started of a new App Store for OS X.

That's too bad. There are often obscure apps and/or automator stuff that is not easily found elsewhere on the Apple downloads section. So if no Mac App store (which frankly most don't want), no future support for the download section, and with Apple seemingly not as 'enthusiastic' about Mac it's no wonder some feel threatened by the iPad.
