I think, if you look around, you'll find many people consider this to be imperfect but perfectly fine. It's really a lazy attitude to stereotype people who disagree with you, but I guess being juvenile is what gets the viewing figures in. Sigh.

Lazy and juvenile? I'm neither. No offense taken either. I've been dropping by these forums for years... retaliatory comments like yours are nothing new.

Still doesn't change the fact that if Samsung released a phone with some of these X features it would result in a 20 page roast on these very forums.

P.S.
For the record I don't care what phone you get... I passed on the X due to the perma turds. You're getting it. Good for you. Hope you like it! :)

I don't get the notch hate. It doesn't impact video viewing unless you zoom the video to full screen. It'll be blacked out in normal viewing. It's 3cms of real east that otherwise would have been a bezel. They put the notch in as if they had used a slim bezel they would have had to put one on the bottom of the screen too to balance the look and people would complain about that too.

I hope there is an easy way for developers to "ignore" it.

Me too, but even if they do, stock iOS apps won’t since Apple seems to believe perma-turds are features.

The experience will be completely inconsistent. Sometimes you’ll see the notch, sometimes you won’t. Consistency across the UI used to be why Apple was all about. :(

Never mind that there's now some odd shape iphone display to deal with, vs.... every other ios device being purely rectangular.

Lol. And bnekic, you gotta speak for yourself here. The notch, to me, is a dealbreaker. It IS a big deal, especially after seeing how it will effect the UX in Chris's video. I mean, how can you not admit that the design is even a tiny bit bad?

Thank god there are people who think this is a dealbreaker. I hope this translates into easier pre-orders.

Of the 10 years of owning every iPhone, I think I've used landscape mode (not including videos) for less than five minutes. Apple knows this.

I think the excess space at the bottom bothers me the most. The keyboard doesn't even touch the bottom of the display.

Don't forget that at that point you're also losing the tops and bottoms from 16:9 video (about 18% of the video's height). This isn't a slight against the iPhone X, mind; this is the experience on any of these new smart phones with elongated displays.

Sure, but by video i didn't just mean video as in movie content.

This impacts anything full-screen, including games, etc.

Edit

Back to Apple and poor decisions.

For the first time I can remember I seriously could not recommend most of the Apple product line to a friend.

Retina MacBooks and retina pros right now are a crapshoot with the keyboard.
The MacBook pros are over priced and under spec because you're paying for the touch bar that nobody really wants
The air spec is just way too dated and the screen by modern standards is crap
The Mac Pro is ancient
The iMac doesn't have a decent GPU option and to get a decent option you need to wait for the pro and pay way too much for the rest of the stuff you don't need or want.
The Mac mini is abandoned
The iPhone x is misguided at best
Even the iPhone 6 and 7 are prone to dents and bending
Outside of the USA the appletv content is mostly crap
They've abandoned the airport and no longer supply windows configuration tools for it

So that leaves the iPads and... iPhone SE?

Compare this to 3-5 years go where I could quite confidently recommend most of the Apple lineup without worrying that I'm giving bad advice.

The iPad Pro especially after iOS 11 hits will be the best 'computer' Apple makes..

iOS 11 is a big step in the right direction and for some, it'll be just enough to replace their laptop with an iPad. But best computer? That depends on the user and what they need it for. I am wondering through, if Apple's long term goal is to slowly phase out their Mac line in favor of iPads.

It has a Retina display and a keyboard that works at half the price of anything else in their lineup with those features.

Performance is on par with the 12-13" machines.

If you can get away with it, I wholeheartedly agree that within the usage pattern it supports it is definitely the best portable Apple makes right now.

Edit:
Arguably in the Apple laptop line at the moment you can choose Retina display OR reliable keyboard right now.

Is this an issue for you personally?

Actually it is, and I just realized it. Picking up a 8 plus on Friday, can't back up my phone to my 2016 mbp and my watch as well because I don't have a dongle. lol wow, I get it now, how stupid
