OK, this is definitely uplifting! Backstreet Boys singing "I Want It That Way" on last night's iHeart concert:

If folks are not moved and inspired by this, don't know what else to say!

Will try and find more such videos of other artists who participated. Kudos to Elton John for organizing it.

Tonight (right now) is Il Barbiere di Sivilgia, HD streaming broadcast from the Metropolitan Opera.

Tomorrow will be Die Frau ohne Schatten from the Vienna State Opera.

Thursday will likely be Parsifal from the Bavarian State Opera.

These streaming performances are typically about US$15 apiece. Because of COVID-19 they are free. If you had a seat in the orchestra section at any of these opera houses, you'd probably be paying $150-200 per performance. Hell, standing room tickets are probably $20-30 in each venue.

Rummaging through Apple Music tonight on the prowl for a different performance of Beethoven Piano and Cello Sonatas. I have only ever had CDs for the Argerich and Maisky. Decided to download the Emmanuel Ax and Yo Yo Ma set, one that earned them a chamber music Grammy in 1993. Happy with the choice. Also included are their performances of the Eb and F variations on themes from Mozart's Magic Flute.

LizKat, you have inspired my current music choice now that Il Barbiere di Siviglia has concluded: I am listening to Argerich playing Rach 3 with Ricardo Chailly on the podium with RSO Berlin, 1982.

I have a few of her recordings from the Sixties way back when she was the young Argentinian spitfire!

I have that 1965 Chopin album. I think she was mainlining dark roast espresso during the recording sessions.

It's wonderful to see some of these great classical performers develop over decades.

Yo-Yo Ma has recorded the Bach Unaccompanied Cello Suites twice now. I expect he will do a third cycle in 15-20 years. I hope to be alive to hear them.

Old musicians play Bach far better than young musicians.

If I'm still alive by then I'll be lucky if I know a Beethoven score from a newspaper, but I like to hear performers' later takes on parts of their repertoire too. For one thing, even leaving aside maturing artistry and interpretive differences, audio technology changes and there's only so much a remastering effort can do to clean up an older recording.
