Nope. Serious. It's way harder to get healthy later if you develop poor eating habits in youth.

It's encouraging to see a reasonably price school lunch program with a decently balanced menu (even if the potatoes are mostly simple carbs, at least they're not fried).

While I'm posting: Supper is spinach salad with feta cheese, sunflower seeds, olive oil and pink salmon.

That's definitely true. As for the simple carbs, the way our school is laid out and the way the schedule is run, we end up doing a whole lot of running. They don't get the chance to stick. :D

With the whole cafeteria thing, I actually like eating healthier meals because the food doesn't just settle in your stomach like a cheesy/fatty/sugary/caffinated brick.

As far as your dinner goes... it looks as though you have top-notch eating habits. How'd you develop them? Some of us only eat a 3-ounce cod fillet, vegetable medley, a spinach-pepper-and-cucumber salad, applesauce, and water. :p

Perri-perri is a spice mixture, which Nandos uses to season most of their food. It's supposed to be Portuguese, but I always thought it originated in Africa. It's quite hot (as in spicy), but they sprinkle it on the chips and marinate the chicken in it.

mmmmm nandos. I am addicted. I go there everyday sometimes lunch and dinner. mmmm breast sandwich. If only I hadn't made that Thai dish for dinner. I could be eating nandos right now...

Lunch today (at the CNRS cantine) was:
Fennel salad with oil/vinegar dressing
Pave de rhumsteack with tagliatellis and haricots verts, with a peppercorn cream sauce
'Crepe brulee' with mascarpone cheese and Nutella
Glass of wine
Espresso

Grand total - 4 Euros!
I love French cafeterias at work :D

Cheers.

Jealous.

I'm going to have from Angelos (mmmmmmm...):
BLT (toasted)
Chili

Though, I'd gladly trade yours for mine. :D

Yesterday I had a $1.19 rice box/bowl thingy. It was just plain white rice with a sweet hot sauce. It seems that those rice boxes make me sleepy in the afternoon.

Today, I don't know. Debating whether or not it makes more sense to go to campus or stay in my apartment. Don't have any classes today and the wireless is actually faster then the apartment connections

At least on campus I don't play any computer games or get as distracted with my toys around the desk.

Edit: just remembered I have to print something in colour and I might as well go to campus and use my free colour prints up. I get two prints a day.

I had an onion bhaji, mango chutney and mint wholemeal sandwich, water and a black coffee. The sandwich was odd. I've got a stinking cold, and am at that really picky stage where you don't know what you want to eat.

Ugh.

The sandwich was ok though, and looked considerably better than the wierdo quiche the canteen had on offer.

Dunno how I missed this thread. Stupid school. :p

I had my mom's made-from-scratch ox-tail beef stew mixed in with some brown rice. Mm. Think I might have some more in a an hour or two.

Yup. White rice = pure simple carbs -

Greatly simplified theory of sugar metabolism:
Simple carbs (sugars and starches) are broken down into sugar rapidly in your gut, and the meal full of sugar enters your bloodstream all in a rush. Your insulin production ramps up to utilize all that sugar, burns it up quickly, and it's gone. Problem is, you're still producing the insulin at a rapid rate, it takes a bit of time to shut down production. The excess insulin burns up the rest of the available sugar in the bloodstream, there's nothing left in your gut to digest, your energy level sags and you get sleepy.

Just the wrong thing to do before a 2 PM exam...

Better to eat protein, good fats, complex carbs and dietary fibre that take a long time to digest and release their sugar energy slowly over a number of hours.

I was all excited when I saw "Amy's."

They're half fat! (But yummy, I bet).

Yes, half fat, but I'm a big guy, and that's about the smallest meal that will fill me up. Fat isn't necessarily bad for you, in moderation -- It's just 18 percent of the daily value.

They are indeed yummy. Don't go for the single enchilada and beans -- not nearly as good.

Another good day at the France Telecom cantine:
Salade niçoise
Lamb tajine with rice and mixed veggies
Chocolate mousse
Espresso

3 Euros!

OK, enough is enough. We eat well here in France :D

Yeah, I envy you. I went to the IBM cantine in Montpellier for a week when I was on a seminar there. I miss it. They were the best lunches I've ever had.

Today I am going to be forced to east pizza at a lunch meeting I have to attend. :(

So, I guess my lunch will consist of processed cheese (always healthy  ), grease (one of the 4 major food groups? don't think so...), crust made from white flour (don't even get me started), and pepperoni (meat that doesn't have an expiry date, yeah, that's gotta be good for me...)

Ah well, at least it's free....

Damn I wish I had some damn chicken shumai, I had a banana, rice cake thingy, and a stick of string cheese.

Man I'm lucky I've already had lunch this thread would have made me hungry! :) ...though I'm a little envious over gauchogolfer's menu items and for 3 euros!

Even though Toronto has some great places to eat (especially within a 15 minute walking radius of work) it still costs $8(CAD) for some what decent food... sure you can go further to get to the $4(CAD) lunches in Chinatown or the strip at Baldwin and McCaul, but the term 'lunch hour' is used loosely for those trips. :p

For lunch today I had home made 'tex-mex' channa(sp?) and samosas, and continuing with the indian food tonight I have tandori chicken thawing at home. :D Tomorrow a lot of people on my floor are getting Thai, and then I'm probably going to have either indian(again) or sushi for a co-workers farewell party Friday.

I do believe that today, I may have had one of the best lunches ever concieved. A burrito. But, it wasn't just any burrito - it was a burrito that even Mr. Steve would eat. You see, I would be what many would call a carnivore. Maybe even meat's best friend and worst nightmare. Anyhow, I went to the best burrito cart ever. It's only a couple blocks from the White House, so I wouldn't be surprised if Mr. Bush (and Clinton before him, etc) hasn't sent a lackey to get some of this food. Anyhow, the burritos, prepared by the owner of this website happen to actually be vegan. But, if you go, get a medium, because I'm a pretty big eater (ask my wife), and I got full.

Oh, and it cost me $5.75, but I think that next time, it will cost me less (I decided that I don't think the guacamole adds to the taste).
