All I have had today is coffee, water, and diet pepsi!! This is always the point in the day where I am starving but I don't take lunch until I get off work at 3:30 most of the time, so Clay mentioning mac and cheese is killing me right now!! ;)

Simple carbs (sugars and starches) are broken down into sugar rapidly in your gut, and the meal full of sugar enters your bloodstream all in a rush.
The evil of starch isn't an established scientific fact. Recent studies suggests that potatos and rice aren't nearly dangerous as the low carb camp wants us to think.

Well, I can attest to the efficacy of the Atkins diet... I used it 2 years ago to lose 30 pounds in 5 weeks. As soon as I reached my target weight, I switched to a diet of "eat what I want, just not so much of it" and I've managed to maintain my weight.

The real trick, of course, is moderation in all things. Find out what you can eat that won't cause you to gain weight, and stick with that.

True, moderation is the trick. The nature of the diet is less important. Just make sure to avoid malnutrition.

Fear Not That Carrot, Potato or Ear of Corn.
Dr. Daniel Nadeau, an endocrinologist and medical director of the Health-Reach Diabetes
Center in Hampton, N.H., said in an interview: "The glycemic index is best used as a
research tool. It has tragically given foods like carrots, brown rice and corn a bad name.
People should eat the whole range of colorful low-calorie foods and leave the glycemic
index in the laboratory where it belongs."

Good Carbs, Bad Press
Studies are also revealing, increasingly, that those on low-calorie, and low fat diets, lose slower than those on lower-carb diets but in the end, all case studies reported the same over all weight in the same extended length of time.

crickey. whatever happened to the sallow, spotty computer geeks of yore who wouldn't know a vegetable unless it appeared by mistake on their pizza?

black coffee and cigarettes.

mac geeks are geeks of a different kind... we know better. ;) :p </huge generalization>

and Ed H that Pho Shizzle picture just made me do a literal "LOL" that's priceless! mmmmmm, pho

That leads me to a question.... My sister in Cali had a Vietnamese friend who said that said "Pho" was pronounced "Fuh." There were even shirts around in her area that had "What the Pho?" printed on them. My husband says that it's pronounced just like it reads... "Foh" (long O). We have seriously had some silly arguments/debates/discussions about this. Does anyone really know the correct pronunciation? How do you guys pronounce it?

Love Pho (Fuh) by the way. Mmmm... :D

Today I bought the school lunch today again. It was decent. Pasta w/meat sauce and a bread stick.

Its probably not very healthy but there are people that buy 12 cookies for lunch, or 8 cookies and a frosted pop-tart.

i got starbucks for lunch. they even gave me a forth shot of expresso for free. :D now i'm on to water. no solid food for me yet today. only had a little bit to eat yesterday. today will be similar.

i don't know whats wrong with me sometimes.
and yet, i'm gaining weight with this diet believe it or not, which i suppose is probably a good thing given how much i lost this summer. hopefully due to work most anything i gain will be turned to muscle right away.

The thing that sucks on my end is even though I don't eat a lot and I'm on the skinny and light side for someone of my height and stature (5'6", often below 120lbs) I still feel a bit pudgy even though I'm bony in places. :(

I've heard a few Vietnamese people pronounce it closer to "fuh" then "foe" and all my friends and I refer to it as "fuh." And yes, I did get a bowl of steaming hot pho for lunch! :D (This one kid who was in the high school band had a sweatshirt that said, "Pho King.")

If eating healthy and trying to avoid putting crap in my body makes me a snob, then I guess I'm a snob. :D Nice one iBlue!!! ;)

Powerbooks and jelly are not a good combination. :D

I think today I'm doing to have a falafel and salad wrap and I might put some sweet chili yoghurt on it too.

The hard drive was a little chewy, the battery was a little tart thought the jelly took care of it.
Next time I won't try to charge it while I'm eating. :D

;) i recall a thread about junk food several months ago that was enlightening in the most horrific ways. since then i've been less apt to eat "junk" but i have my weak moments. it's cool to be a food snob these days, (not to mention smart) but that doesn't mean i can't give you crap for it. :p you're a fun target.

indeed! i had to have a glass of milk with it today since my husband orders wicked spices on it. i was HOT during lunch, watery eyes and red faced and all. it was divine! :D

Mmm all the talk of Thai food is making me hungry. I think today I'll have the chinese chicken and sweet corn soup I made last night because I was bored. It's really easy to make and I think it tastes great - one of my chinese friends showed me how to make it properly. :)

And I wouldn't expect any less of you! ;)

And as for junk food, yes, nothing wrong with treating yourself now and then. Everything in moderation - as with many other things in this world, balance is the key.

Nothing wrong with that - you gotta enjoy life after all!

Yay, resurrecting this one..

Went to the cafeteria for lunch today and had a BTO chicken breast sandwich (sliced in half thick-wise, then laid on the bread side-by-side) with lettuce, tomatoes, sliced cucumbers and dijon mustard. Being cafeteria food, it was way over-priced but still not too bad... also bought a small bag of gummi bears which I'm currently destroying.
