All I have had today is coffee, water, and diet pepsi!! This is always the point in the day where I am starving but I don't take lunch until I get off work at 3:30 most of the time, so Clay mentioning mac and cheese is killing me right now!!
The evil of starch isn't an established scientific fact. Recent studies suggests that potatos and rice aren't nearly dangerous as the low carb camp wants us to think.CanadaRAM said:Simple carbs (sugars and starches) are broken down into sugar rapidly in your gut, and the meal full of sugar enters your bloodstream all in a rush.
Well, I can attest to the efficacy of the Atkins diet... I used it 2 years ago to lose 30 pounds in 5 weeks. As soon as I reached my target weight, I switched to a diet of "eat what I want, just not so much of it" and I've managed to maintain my weight.gekko513 said:The evil of starch isn't an established scientific fact. Mm. That sounds good. If time allows for it, I might get pho!iBlue said:thai food for lunch for me today.

True, moderation is the trick. The nature of the diet is less important. Just make sure to avoid malnutrition.clayj said:Well, I can attest to the efficacy of the Atkins diet... The real trick, of course, is moderation in all things. Find out what you can eat that won't cause you to gain weight, and stick with that.
Dr. Daniel Nadeau, an endocrinologist and medical director of the Health-Reach Diabetes
Center in Hampton, N.H., said in an interview: "The glycemic index is best used as a
research tool. It has tragically given foods like carrots, brown rice and corn a bad name.
People should eat the whole range of colorful low-calorie foods and leave the glycemic
index in the laboratory where it belongs."
Studies are also revealing, increasingly, that those on low-calorie, and low fat diets, lose slower than those on lower-carb diets but in the end, all case studies reported the same over all weight in the same extended length of time.
Oh, they're still around in fact, I think quite a few of them are posting in this pimpley thread...frankblundt said:whatever happened to the sallow, spotty computer geeks of yore...

i don't know whats wrong with me sometimes.
and yet, i'm gaining weight with this diet believe it or not, which i suppose is probably a good thing given how much i lost this summer. hopefully due to work most anything i gain will be turned to muscle right away.

I've heard a few Vietnamese people pronounce it closer to "fuh" then "foe" and all my friends and I refer to it as "fuh." And yes, I did get a bowl of steaming hot pho for lunch!floriflee said:Does anyone really know the correct pronunciation? How do you guys pronounce it?
Love Pho (Fuh) by the way. Mmmm...![]()

iBlue said:i recall a thread about junk food several months ago that was enlightening in the most horrific ways. since then i've been less apt to eat "junk" but i have my weak moments. it's cool to be a food snob these days, (not to mention smart) but that doesn't mean i can't give you crap for it.
you're a fun target.

And as for junk food, yes, nothing wrong with treating yourself now and then. Everything in moderation - as with many other things in this world, balance is the key.
