haha

i dont really care about the new macbooks as i am so happy with my 2.4ghz blackbook.. but i think im gonna miss out the backlit keyboard and the MT trackpad. :):):):apple::):):)

oh man, i so hope aluminium MacBooks come out soon as im looking to sell my MacBook Pro and buy a MacBook (and buy i gaming PC/hackintosh) along with my ACD… so aluminium city.

I think it's relatively certain we'll see Aluminum Macbooks.

It will be a cross between a Macbook Air and a Macbook Pro.
ie:
-Backlit keyboard (Probably black)
-LCD Screen
-Multi-touch
-Slightly Thinner than current line
-More aggressive price (It's THE consumer laptop)

I'm really hoping for a Black Aluminum Macbook to arrive though!

It is your opinion. Nothing more.

This one would be best:

I'd like to see:

  1. MV-based 2.4Ghz-2.6Ghz CPU's
  2. 2GB standard, up to 8GB DDR3
  3. 7200rpm drives for the MB available
  4. aluminum chassis
  5. 14" 4:3 ratio screen
  6. nVidia IGP instead of Intel graphics
  7. Blu Ray burner (I don't care about movies.....just data backup)
  8. made by Lenovo, instead of Asustek (or however's making them now)

Some of it could happen, but a lot of it is some serious wishful thinking, obviously. ;)

almost all of that is wishful thinking.

almost all of that is wishful thinking.

1,2,3,4, and 6 are reasonable. The Thinkpad R400 is roughly equivalent in price and supports up to 8GB of RAM. 7200rpm are now cheap and readily available. The aluminum chassis is shaping up to be the real deal. nVidia IGP is a real possibility, because it A: is available and B: would give a modest increase in performance, while not encroaching on MBP territory.

Just my opinion, but I am not asking for thought control in lieu of a trackpad. All stuff available. :D

the Lenovo comment was strictly thrown in there due to my satisfaction with the current Thinkpad line.

Give me a dedicated graphics card. Other than that, I would like everything to remain the same. I know it sounds childish, but the MacBook is a very "cute" laptop, and the MacBook Pro looks like, well, a professional laptop. I'd like to keep it that way.

Does everyone think that the Macbook will come out before October 14?

I sure hope the redesign(s) will come out on or before the 14th. I can't wait much longer! (my Dell is on it's deathbed...)

"Apple plans to completely eliminate the use of PVC and BFRs in its products by the end of 2008." (Directly from apple's website)

That looks promising...

Yes, many of those things are available in the world but many people forget that these aren't standalone products. Apple, arguably more so than other computer companies, is very concerned with the branding of the line and making sure it's distinct.

So things like the option of 8GB of RAM or discrete video cards, while possible, are most likely to only to available in Macbook Pros to make sure they're distinct from the cheaper Macbook. Not only are those options more expensive to manufacture, but they'd cannibalize their sales of more expensive laptops.

So:

1. they'll most likely start at the 2.26 GHz P8400 and scale up from there.
2. 2GB is possible but they'll probably top out at 4GB
3. possible but they might reserve for MBP
4. yes, almost definite
5. no
6. no
7. possible upgrade on the highest end
8. no

You can't have both.
