I agree completely with Beric. Why spend 1000$+ on a laptop with specifications that can easily be matched with one <700$. Sure the OS may be different, but that's preference, they still operate and work similarly(please don't yell at me, i'm just stating my opinion:eek:). I have only used a Mac, never actually owned one. However, i am hoping that they do release some major updates to the macbook :D.
As for what i see in the update?
From what i've heard, it seems that the redesign of an Aluminum case is very likely for a "greener Apple" approach. I hope so, then again i do hope for alot of things :p

PS First post !!

Congrats on your first post and something to add to the greener apple approach: maybe apple will change their logo color to green or at least make the glowing apple on future products green! :D

also as i see it when you pay the premium on an apple product you are also paying the premium for the cool factor, to support a platform sold only by one company and for a great long-lasting computer design!

thanks! and i agree, but i do hope that i don't get too caught up in the hype, just to be dissapointed. It has happened to me before, sadly....i tend to fall for these types of things easily. But this time i think i've done my research, and i won't be dissapointed. :)

make it look cool- more durable than a macbook pro yet graceful like an apple laptop should be. only thing i care about is graphics. anything is an upgrade from my 1ghz ibook g4

On another note, I was bored so I made up what I would like to see when the MB Touch comes out.
I guess it's OK for an amatuer using MS Paint for an hr...

What do you think is missing? I was researching the "Brick" codename and people say it has to do with the The MB Touch because brick was a misinterpreted Chinese word that was related to touchscreen.:p

Will apple release a netbook as an alternative to the macbook? A mini MB air would rock!

*******Not my screen shot! Found off google! Still waiting for new MB**********

That is exactly what I want!!!! I like how you worded that! Now if they can only make it powerful like a macbook pro! :p

me too. i fell last time when me and 2 friends all bought acer laptops... worst 400 bucks i ever spent! and i also have researched endlessly in anticipation for this new laptop so much my school work is beginning to suffer (i need to get a life). ill cross my fingers for myself and you, lol:p

No dedicated GPU

I don't see a reason for dedicated GPUs on new MacBooks. For those who use their MBs just for internet, e-mail, IM, downloads, movies, music, pictures etc., it doesn't matter if the laptop has a dedicated GPU (and these people are 90% of the buyers). Nobody gets a low-end laptop for playing games. I own a white macbook and it fits perfectly for me. I run Diablo II, Max Payne 2, FlatOut 2 and Age of Empires 3 w/o problems. But I wish I could have a better GPU to run CoD4 and Crysis! LOL. Just wish!

Sincerily, I don't expect GPU upgrades. Maybe an Intel GPU upgrade.
Sorry :(

But isn't a $1300 laptop "high-end"?

I play plenty of games on my Macbook, some fairly demanding, in addition to my MS Word and Safari usage. I would have loved to have had an option to get dedicated graphics. I'd guess a large number of MBP users would have bought a MB had it had dedicated graphics.

But on the flip-side, a lot of MBP users don't game all day either... ;) :)

Neither do I all day. But I'd like to be able to play the occasional high-spec game without problem on a $1300 laptop.

The only major differences between the MB and MBP are dedicated graphics and screen size. The additional 100-200Mhz. processor speed is barely noticeable. Those things shouldn't cost so much money.

I am expecting to see a lot of very disappointed faces... Including myself...

I don't thing dedicated graphics will be in lower end models, maybe going higher up they will??

I will be happy if the lower model is $999, includes 2.4GHz, 2GB, 160GB, Superdrive

I personally would buy the middle/top model with 2.6GHz, 2GB, 250GB, superdrive and nVidia 9000 series graphics.

Either Core 2 Duo or Centrino 2 will do. I am expecting aluminum and black keyboards (both good things!!), and battery life 5hrs+ (helped by the LED display). Maybe a new display adaptor/port that goes to VGA, DVI and HDMI? But dedicated graphics needed for the HDMI? No blueray though...

Grrr... Apple love all this suspense... I am almost certain to buy one on day one to replace a G4 Powerbook 12"... Stupid Apple.

I think the $999 model should have
2.4ghz cpu
2gb ram
superdrive
intel 4500 graphics
16:9 led screen
160gb hard drive
$1099 model should have
2.6ghz cpu
2gb ram
superdrive
nvidia graphics
16:9 led screen
200gb hard drive
$1199 model should have
2.6ghz cpu
4gb ram
superdrive
nvidia graphics
16:9 led screen
320gb hard drive
also all the macbooks will have the aluminum casing(hopefully available in black and silver)

then the macbook pro's will have the bluray option, bigger hard drives, bigger screen, and led backlit keyboard(would be nice if the macbook has it too)

I really think dedicated graphics should be a BTO option on all Macbooks models. I've NEVER used my full processor clock speed, and therefore have no desire for a computer with a super-powerful processor.

You might get both. You can't have Centrino 2 without Core 2 Duo. You can have Core 2 Duo without Centrino 2. If you don't know what I'm speaking about, find out what Centrino 2 and Core 2 Duo are (hint: those aren't the same kind of thing) :).

Ok.. now we have prices! I agree with you when you say that a $1300 MB should have nVidia/ATI graphics, but the entry models won't have; I'm sure! They'll cost like $1100 with 2GB RAM and 160GB HDD and a SuperDrive.

Apple doesn't make miracles!

Every Apple product upgrade we have kinda disillusionment. LOL
Or we have the prices bigger then we'd like them to be, or we have less performance then we'd like to have!
Maybe dedicated graphics in all MBs would be the 2010 upgrade.

No way will apple double the ram, and have a bigger HDD for only $100...

Yeah, if you even compare that to similar pricing on today's models, you couldn't even get close to that. Their RAM and HDD upgrades are ridiculously overpriced. Why would that change in the new revision haha...

Also, this is not the first thread that's discussed features.

I'll be released on a Tuesday, so either the 7th or 14th. I really don't think Apple will wait to Jan. If they do...I'll probably end up buying a PC or something.

I know what you mean. I'll still end up getting one though, and I'll just pick up a BlackBook and hope the cracks don't appear. But A. the Blackbooks seem to be less crack-prone, and B. I'll be getting AppleCare, and C. I'm not paying for it, so it's not that big of a deal to me as if the $1500 were coming out of my pocket. :)

You just answered your own question. The OS is different, and if you want OSX you buy a Mac. I'd love to be able to easily (and no, Hackintosh is not the solution) run OSX, supported on my Thinkpad.

But that won't happen.

C. I'm not paying for it, so it's not that big of a deal to me as if the $1500 were coming out of my pocket.

Who will be paying for it:confused:
And you should always appreciate the money...or in this case, the macbook that's being bought for you :D

Thinner, lighter. Don't know if to expect plastic or aluminum casing. I've heard reliable rumours of a tapered black plastic design, but aluminum also seems likely. As long as the case is stronger than the current one, that's good.

Minimum HDD at 160GB, top out at 300GB.

RAM 2GB standard, top out at 4GB.

Still integrated graphics (unfortunately), but better.

Black keyboard.

Superdrive standard.

This is what I actually expect, whereas most of the posts in this thread are wishful thinking. ;)
