I like the "Mr. Taylor's" variant from TOBS. It has a nice but understated scent (nothing floral or obtrusive) and gives a great thick lather.

That's the very scent I bought, and I love it. It smells totally classy and masculine, and it's VERY easy to build a great lather with it.

Why does it matter that the blades aren't made in the US? Is it a quality issue or is it to protest the company shipping jobs elsewhere? Just wondering....

I looked into this - for the most part, safety razor blades are made overseas simply because the American buying market tends to want cartridge razors or disposables - the Fusions, the Mach 3's, Atras, etc. Double-edge shaving is more of an "old world" thing.

Great thread! I've been toying with the idea of switching to a safety razor for a few years now. I think this thread might have talked me into it.

Currently I shave five days a week before work in the shower under running water with a Fusion....but i think that might be changing soon.

Dude, I just made the switch last week - you will NOT regret it!

Yeah those safety razors are great once you get the hang of it. But if you shave your melon like I do, well... I just can't bring my self to do my melon with a safety razor.

It's bad enough with clippers, as the skull is round and the clippers offer a flat surface, just like a safety razor. Takes a lot of passes to do the job properly.

Looking for a sale on Panasonic or Philishave flex-head, to make life just a little bit easier.

Still use Edge fragrance-free gel, and a Bic Sensitive single-blade disposable on my face.

Don't know if they are Wilkinson Sword anymore, but they sure last me quite a while before pulling.

I usually shave twice a week. Got tired of everyday. Since I do not get an instant beard. I use a disposable without water or shaving cream. Just run across face hacking off the whiskers.

Double edge, no shaving cream, hot water and blade, with the grain. Only way I've been able to get a close shave without rashes or ingrown hairs.

Hate shaving but I do it after every shower (every morning and night). It grows fast.

I shave with a blunt stone...

Just kidding, I usually dont shave when all I do is slave work in a warehouse and the fact I hate it. Takes forever and hurts. Is this safety razor faster/less painful?

The more you shave, the more your skin gets used to it.

And speed with a sharp blade is not recommended.

I would suggest every other day. Should make things somewhat easier, over time.

Shaving is an art and should be enjoyed, once mastered. Have a little class with it and enjoy an old fashion shave. Brakes out the brush, the bowl, an old fashion blade. Then go to town. I do it, because it's relaxing. I am also a very stressed out person and this helps.

Didnt really mean faster as in moving blade faster but with these gillette I have to make 3-4 passes to get it smooth...

Those cartridge monstrosities aren't "sharp" to begin with and their cost only encourages you to use them far too long. Once I got the knack of DE shaving I found I had far less irritation and less acne too.

WOW, I think I'm going to try the straight blade razor shaving too. That maybe what I need to get rid of razor burn and ingrown hairs. Thanks!!

I have a Braun something or other. The base has this cleaning disc system where you stick the razor in, press a button if you want to clean it, and it flushes the razor with some kind of solution. Saves hassle at the cost of $10 every couple of months for replacement discs.

For my goatee, I have a Remington something or other.

For my head, which I don't shave completely (use 1 1/2 blade), I have an Oster 76 which works great.

And for my back hair, I have a mangroomer.

I've noticed since I dropped the disposable cartridges (Fusion) and went to a double-edge razor, two passes is MORE than close enough. I've used it twice now, and each time the following day the stubble had just about grown out to the point where I could barely feel it, but there's certainly not enough to shave again. I told my wife I'll probably get yesterday's 5 o'clock shadow around noon today. It's awesome.

Yesterday I think I was just a wee bit zealous with the pressure on my face; I didn't have a noticeable rash or razor burn, but my skin felt just a bit irritated from the shave. Maybe lay off the pressure a bit, or just do a single pass.

Just picked up my kit today. A badger brush and a merkur razor and a bunch of samples. Thx guys. Can't wait to try it.

Is there a difference between a man's disposable and a woman's one since I use one from the package from my wife?

The blade keeps longer than the ones I have used before but I don't know if it really gives as close a shave or if that really matters in a cheap razor blade?

I shave in my steamroom with some kind of herbal/menthol hair softening stuff, some kind of shaving gel and some cheap twin-blade razor.

Steam+razor blade... hair voluntarily leaps away.

Cheap is good. I use the one pictured below.

I think the single blade cleans easier, and is therefore less prone to pitting.

Seems to last forever.

Scared hair-less??

What shaving setup do you guys use?

Also, do any of you use Harry's? How is it?

I've always been using el-cheapo shaving products, and that needs to change now.

For a second I thought this would be another one of those never ending advertising threads, but I'm glad to see it's not.

I currently use a Gillette Fusion or ProGlide Power with the Flexball. I'm not sure what the difference really is between the Fusion and Fusion ProGlide, and if the power vibrations actually do anything. I'm sure it's all marketing and BS because I have yet to be able to read what the difference is between the packaging, website, and online. Paying $30 for a pack of razors is insanity yet I do it month after month.

I've tried the much cheaper Shick Quattro and found the cut to be not as good as the Gillette. They also wore way too fast. I also tried the Hydo 5, same problem, only worse.

I have fast growing, very course facial hair (Jewish heritage) so the "one month" Fusion/Proglide lifespan is more like 5-7 days for me, shaving 1x every day. I get 5:00 shadow at 2:30. I also have somewhat sensitive skin, so the 3-blade razors cause more irritation on my face. I usually use a Mach 3 to take care of gross neck hair issue due to it's durability and the less sensitive skin. When I swam competitively the Mach 3 was also my goto choice for arm/leg shaving

I use shaving cream from the Art of Shaving or Aveeno if I cheap out. Regarding a lot of these discount razor websites, I'm always concerned the quality will be lacking and I'll have to deal with a sketchy company that will not billing me/sending me products when I ask them to stop. Historically, there are many cases of companies who operate like this intentionally despite putting up professional front.

One of these days I'll teach myself how to use a straight razor
