How is iMessage a mess?

And lots of Siri improvements. Beyond new voices, it can now do much more including calculations, conversions, bringing up information directly on the Siri page, adjust system settings, etc.

When I use iMessage on Mac, iPhone and iPad, the synchronization is often out of place (older messages are shown before newer etc.), sometimes the messages do not arrive on my Mac/iPad at all.

Siri:

1) Well, for one, international localization. Siri is based on Nuance, which offers Dragon Dictation. This is a multi-language voice recognition tool. I would like to be able to dictate SMS or e-mail in my native language and not only in English (and other few languages that Siri supports). In Android I can do that easily. If I buy Dragon Dictation from Nuance, I can do that in that app as well. Why can't I do that in Siri, which is based on Nuance technology?

2) Integration in maps. Apple maps work quite well in my country. It shows pubs, restaurant, shopping centers. But I can't tell Siri to show me directions (despite the fact that if I enter them manually, it navigates perfectly in Czech language). It simply tells me that this feature is not available in my country. Why is that? Apple in its database knows, what is "restaurant", what is "shopping center" (because it shows correct icons). It is no different than in UK or US in this regard. However for some reason, I can't ask for directions by voice (in English) here despite the fact that navigation in Apple maps works in Czech language.

Like many others who have posted in this thread, I absolutely detest the icons. But I realized the other day that it's really something deeper than that. It seems to me that iOS 7 doesn't quite know what it wants to be.

On the one hand, there are the parts of the system that are based on the frosted glass look (control center, Siri, Folders, top and bottom bars in apps). These are wonderfully refined looking and are a worthy successor to the rich textures found in iOS 1-6. Most elements on the frosted glass background are rendered in black or white and the color is provided as your wallpaper or content shines through. It's futuristic, beautiful, and I really like it.

But then, on the other hand, you have the gaudy, cartoony, neon elements of the system (icons and text message bubbles are the two most glaring examples). Not only are these elements ugly, they simply don't fit with the rest of the design language of iOS 7. They are not subtle and do not defer to your content. Instead they call attention to themselves in the worst possible way.

It's this clash between the subtle, beautiful elements and the neon, cartoony elements that I really dislike about iOS 7. Is the OS a refined, modern example of software or a child's toy? I don't know. I'm not sure Apple does either right now.

This is purely a personal aesthetic opinion, but I find the white-green/blue color scheme of iMessage totally gorgeous, one of my favorite aspects of the new GUI.

The problem with 7 GUI is it at many places lacks the conceptual elegance of 6 and older - see the swipe 4 fingers on iPad gesture. On older systems, you literally swipe up the desktop layer to reveal the multitasking tray. In 7, you launch into this cars view and it goes diagonally to the last used app.

Or, multitasking after changing orientation - you get weirdly looking rotated apps and there's no simple and elegant solution to this.

Most of my issues have been fixed. However, iOS 7 has this odd delay when doing thing as pulling up multitasking or pressing the home button that makes iOS 6 feel so much faster. Pisses me off.

Hate the music app.
Miss the "show all songs" feature.
Also do not understand why Apple will not allow a button to access equalizer settings directly from the music app.
Really do not like all the white in the app either.

I dont like the style of their design for the UI. Flat is just unappealing to me. My personal style of preference is gloss, embossment, and contrast. Other than that, its a perfectly normal update for me, with much needed improvements on the some features.

I feel the same way. The new OS lacks the polish of the gloss in iOS6

What I don't like about iOS 7 on my black iPhone 5

What I hate the most

- The dock

It sometimes is not that ugly but with some wallpapers it truly is ugly. What sucks is you can't get rid of it, it's not like the icons, you can toss them and use other apps but with the dock, there's nothing to do (I don't and won't jb). I don't understand why Apple had to get rid of everything that made iOS for the last 6 years. This dock seems to be a step back to me, something similar to iOS 1-3 which should be replaced by the gorgeous mountain lion dock

- Some icons

Just take a look at the safari icon, or the photos icon. Whoever made them was so wrong. Some guys here on macrumours are way better at designing icons.

- No more connectivity with OS X

iOS 7 now has nothing to do with OS X, doesn't make sense since Apple has been "ios'ing" OS X for some time.

- It's made for white iphones

Everyone will agree, iOS 7 doesn't look as good on a black iPhone as it does on a white one

- it doesn't look professional anymore

It used to but I guess they want to sell more phones to 10 year-old kids. iOS 7 looks so childish

Not to thrilled with the icons. But I do have to say beta 5 seems pretty stable to me and my battery life is pretty good. I installed iOS 7 two days ago, I was waiting on a stable release and it works a lot better than I expected. Especially with all the complaints I have read.

It doesn't feel quite as "solid" as iOS 5/6. I don't like the way the speech bubbles on the texts screen wobble, for example. And the parallax isn't flawless either.

Also a couple of the icons are HIDEOUS. (I still haven't gotten used to them: The camera, Safari, settings, etc.)

Still, there's time for changes.

1. Hate the fact that camera grabber icon is so small on the lock screen. I find myself opening control center trying to open the camera app.

2. Love the animations but they need to be faster.

3, Multitask needs a gesture. Double tapping the home button is annoying.

3. Not a big fan of the stacked Safari Tabs.

4. If you have a passcode lock with the number #0 prepared to be annoyed:D

5. Music scrubbing cant be accessed from the notification center

6. Calender app is horrible.

7. Dialer keypad buttons being smaller circles? why would anyone approve smaller circular dial buttons? Why is the "call" button so small and close to the tabs on the bottom.

I feel like alot has improved however..alot of features that we know and love were sacrificed

My concern is all the new bells and whistles on iOS 7 will turn out to be massive processor hogs that make some of the older phones and tablets run very slow. Has anyone seen this yet?

Would suck for us if apple ditched the black iPhone 3 of my iphones were black :(

So light, very simple icons.. Some apps has issue with permissions on ios7. (For example Skype, what was that.. Needs to ask permission for accessing photos. But it didnt ask. Therefore cant send photos, or receive photos)

One thing that bothers me about iOS 7 is the Music Accessibility, where you can shift the balance of the audio left or right, in iOS 6 I could shift it over to the right just a little bit, which is perfect because I can't hear as we'll out the right ear, but shifting it over just a little bit provides the perfect balance. In iOS 7, they changed the default for how far you can go over to the left or right, so now when I shift it over it starts off too far from the right and I just want it to go a little bit to the right, make sense? It throws off the whole audio experience for me so I use my phone running iOS 6 to listen to music for now. I know I'm in the minority with this, but so hope they fix it.

The music app. Choosing an artist with multiple albums nolonger displays them in grid view but expands them all in chronological order so you now have to scroll through all the songs to the song or album you want. Also the scrubbing, first touch is set to high speed which skips to much of the song. It should be fine scrub first.

Then most of the other apps and overall look of iOS 7. Specially the calendar app, clock app and pretty much all the icons.

It seems to me that they changed it just for the sake of change and not to make it run better. Whether you like or dislike the icons and effects is probably a matter of personal taste. I'd prefer better responsiveness which at least on an ipad, is anything but on ios7.

I have two peeves

1. Nine icons in the pane on the iPad. iOS 5 and 6 could handle more so why yank that back. If anything they could have pulled more like a Launchpad and filled the screen with the pane and icons
2. No toggle for show all for videos, music (and even iBooks). I like that I can stream and all that but I do have reason to download and it would be nice to just quickly tap or tog between the two states

stupid music app cant shuffle by genre
it also doesnt divide artists by albums...you cant go to an artist and pick an album..you have to go to artist and scrooooolll to the album you want. okay for one hit wonders...but not those with lots in their catalog..
