It's too lifeless and dull.

One of the things I've always loved about iOS until now is the texture, the color combinations... Everything was perfect. I'd used many different UIs before and since, and NOTHING (even OS X) has come close to being as simultaneously beautiful and functional as iOS.

And now Apple is throwing all that out the window with this ugly new-age pile of crap. It feels sterile and wrong.

I know my opinion is unpopular, but I feel fairly strongly about it. Whenever I pick up and play with the iOS 7 test iPad at work, I shudder and feel sad that this horrible interface will soon take over.

Why the heck did Apple have to copy Microsoft? They started this "flat UI" design garbage.

It's quite obvious a lot of you, to be fair, are just used to iOS 6. 7 is a striking change.

I mean, iOS has looked the same for 6 years..it is time for a change, and 7 is beautiful.

I have to agree and disagree with you at the same time.

At first, I felt the same way. However, I've been using iOS 7 for quite a while now and I've come to like the design philosophy. This also made me change my mind about iOS 6. While I agree that iOS 6 was very polished and 'perfect', the tremendous amount of bevel and emboss was really old-fashioned. It's most certainly not modern. I never had any problem with it, but once you're used to iOS 7 the gloss, gradients and bevel will seem ugly. Also, iOS 6 was bitmap based and I believe iOS 7 is vector based. This doesn't show quite yet, but I will believe in the future it'll make iOS 7 feel more alive and vibrant, as opposed to iOS 6 being a bit rigid.

iOS 7 is the way to go. It's not perfect, but it's the way to go. I think (unfortunately) it will take a few iterations (iOS 8/9) until it's as polished as iOS 6. But trust me, you'll come to love it. :)

I was pretty content until beta 5, while not drastic, the few changes here and there were a step backwards. Especially the colours in Setting. To make it in after 4 betas seems odd and they don't look right.

On the contrary I find that the new icons in settings give the page a bit more life and vibrancy as opposed to the old thin blue lines on white text, which looked a little too utilitarian.

The main thing I find slightly irritating right now is the speed of animation when opening up a folder, switching back to an app or pulling up the control centre. I think Apple would do well to speed these transitions up a little so that it's more immediately responsive.

They went with an all-grey, flatter theme compared with Snow Leopard and below with Lion etc... I personally hated the needlessly smaller window widgets and pointless interface changes for the sake of it but Mountain Lion is so much snappier than Snow Leopard.

I think Apple are focusing on a flatter theme for their whole ecosystem. Thinner systems and phones, flatter interface design. They're more interested in aesthetics and form than they are in functionality.

All the animations are too lengthy! x2 plz.

Yes this, and also i would like "snappier" animation in multitasking. Dont know how to describe it but the current one is too lazy?

I want something like Safari tab switching on iPhone in iOS6.

Your post makes me feel a bit relieved. Maybe it's just "resistance to change". I just know I didn't like it at first glance, whereas when I first saw the iPhone introduced in 2007, I LOVED it at first glance. (I didn't buy one until 2010 because I felt the OS wasn't there feature-wise yet, but I've loved the appearance from day one)

So, we'll see where things go. Annoyingly, Apple's "you can't downgrade the OS" policy means that upgrading is a one way step and I'll have to be really sure before I do so.

I have to agree and disagree with you at the same time.

Music app and Calendar app. Music app makes it much more difficult to navigate through artists/composers with many albums, and in an order that makes no sense except for rock/pop.

The calendar app could make much better use of the extra detail provided by the retina screen - how about a detailed week view?

What do I not like about iOS 7? The long wait, the constant sniping, the 'oh it should do this' pie-in-the-sky wants, the 'Oh, Android already does that' BS.

Oh, and lately, waiting to see what 'gee wow' feature will be tied to Apple's newest hardware...

For my money, Apple needs to do way more than just make the calendar app 'look good'. They way it works with an iMac, and the way that it works over 'the cloud' really blows. It's way to complicated to share calendars, way to unintuitive how it handles adding events. There is major work to be done IMO.

Can't disagree with that.

I also hate the way iOS pulls in Facebook events but my calendar on ML doesn't.

AMEN! to the Facebook pull-ins. Freaked me out when all that stuff just zapped over. I had to turn that off quick. Facebook is a disease, and I don't need cross-contamination with my real world life (such as it is).

The keyboard, for the love of God you'd think Apple would've made an advancement in this area by now.

The removal of the quick post buttons to FB and Twitter. I really do not care if you used them that much, I found them valuable. I've rarely ever seen a company REMOVE functionality this big.

The removal of "Search the Web" or "Search Wikipedia" from the spotlight search. Again, don't care if you used them, I did.

To me, unlocking my device via passcode seems a lot harder now. I seem to miss hitting a number a lot more often than I used to. Maybe its just me, maybe the numbers are smaller.

The fact that on the dialer, I cannot spell out a name in numbers to select a contact. If I wanted to call Dad, I shouldnt have to A. Memorize his number or B. search for him in contacts. Pressing 323 on the number pad should give me the option to call him.

The fact that there is no "Clear All Notifications" button yet. Seriously? How was this overlooked?

/rant

Edit: Also the Today screen in notifications. It looks haphazardly thrown together and could definitely use a makeover.

For the most part, I like the *idea* behind iOS 7:

Flatter
More animations
Use of semi-transparency
etc.

*but*

I really don't like the default color scheme - looks like a 13-year-old girl's TrapperKeeper :/ Why can't there be an alternate, less neon scheme?
There is still a fairly serious bug where the icons do not re-arrange properly when rotating - they stay in the original config onscreen, and can't be selected because they're not where they're supposed to be :/ Only way to fix is to re-rotate a few times until they "automagically" fix themselves

My biggest complaint is the calendar app. It needs a better list/agenda view (I don't know why this was demoted to the 'search' function) and the location should allow you to search maps like has been demonstrated in Mavericks.

It's familiarity and the idea that Apple said its a full redesign. All ios7 is ios6 with a new skin and a few tweaks which have been around on other platforms or by jailbreaking for years.

I do not like the cellular signal bars. It just takes up more space.
You mean you don't like the new cellular signal dots (vs. the "old" and essentially industry standard bars that take up less space).

agreed, now i have to focus and look for the information earlier all the events were just there...

redesign is fine but they took away some of thing which was best with iOS 6.

do not like lots of icons also. mail and safari too much white back ground.

I dont like the style of their design for the UI. Flat is just unappealing to me. My personal style of preference is gloss, embossment, and contrast. Other than that, its a perfectly normal update for me, with much needed improvements on the some features.
Same here!
