More and more pro users are taking this as a declaration that Macs have abandoned pro uses for their computer and OS...

It might be better to say power users instead of pro because pro user doesn't equal power user.

In saying that, I hope Apple does address the Mac Pro and Mac mini.
I want Apple to keep pushing the boundaries in regards to thinness and weight.
I hope they get all their products synced up this year as well. I think they will.

Really?

It's really sad to see long time Mac users leaving the fold but it's Apple's own fault for neglecting their Pro customers for so long. :(

Used Macs for years and apple must have sold a ton of iPod, Mac and Iphones on my recommendations to friends over the years, but when a big project comes in now it gets 'done' on my big powerful and cheap Dell because the aging mac can't cope and apple haven't offered anything worth upgrading to, I can't bring myself to buy a mac pro dustbin knowing that my cheese grater pro has lasted so long only by upgrading in financially small chunks every couple of years. Sad thing is, I'm actually starting to like windows 10, I'm just Column view away from loving it (3rd party attempts at bringing this to Windows don't quite work as hoped).
I was shocked at how well 'after effects' works on Windows compared to osx, it was actually a little upsetting realising there was going to be no way to logically justify sticking with the mac.

Tim: Hé you guys, apport ! I am so angry at you !!
Phil: What's wrong ?
Tim: I heard that our Airpods are designed with a worldwide auto-kill feature !!
It's just too crazy to be true.
Greg: Well, they're part of our Managed Lifecycle program. We are provisioning that for a year, now. There is a pile of memoranda about it. Didn't you read ?
Phil: Yes, Tim. It's not my idea, but we accorded it. It forces customers that didn't lose their buds to buy new ones anyway. We needed it to survive, by the lack of new products.
Tim: So, you're saying that at a certain date, all Airpods out there will collapse ?
Greg: No, they just stop to work. It's only the W1 chip that destroys itself.
Tim: Why's that ?
Greg: There is so many new technologies that we need to force onto the market. So we just have to this time. 5K, USB-C, Bluetooth 5.0, ASMC codecs...
Tim: Oooahhhm...I'm getting excited...
Joni: The device itself remains in its beautiful shape. It combines sheer vision with the intrinsic beauty of the plastic material. And it stops to work in an elegant manner. It is by far the best example of something you want to keep as an ornament. It beautifully complements the Oral-B chargers that are abundant everywhere.
Tim: Are you listening, Angela ? They are so beautiful, you also should wear them. You are such a role model...
Angela: When it comes to cashing, OK. But mines are still ehh...., in backorder
Tim: But don't tell me that hundreds of millions of Airpods stop working at the same day, are you ?
Greg: Well, it's hard coded, so I guess there indeed will be a D-day sometime.
Phil: And Donald Trump is aware - he needs a D-day to improve national coherence...
Tim: But it will be a catastrophy !! Billions of people will be expelled from music, phone calls. They will be mad at us. Our stock price will collapse. Panic will be worldwide. There will be mad runs and riots at our shops....and how do we provision new ones in a split second of time ?
Eddy: The hardest blow will be for Spotify. They're still bigger than us...
Tim: Eddy, dismissed. Leave off with your gang of rapper pranks to improve the stupid Music app once and forever !! With headphones on so you don't speak !!
Eddy: Ulburbb... OK
Phil: Well if we know the D-date, there is time to work out a supply plan.
Greg: Oops..! The guy who hardcoded the date was transferred to the iCar-project and laid off...
Tim: OMG. I start sweating as hell. This is soo crazy. I couldn't be surrounded by more idiots than this. I can't hardly breath at all....If this news gets public, I will be toast.
Phil: Get straight, Tim - how difficult that is in your case
See it in a broader context. This means that someday, ill-received MacBooks lose all negative public attention in a single blow. Think of all the rumors sites, these worms live by the day and will never remember how bad it was....
Tim: OK, that's fantastic news. In that case leave everything it as it is and keep me updated. I feel so confident with what we do. It's part of our pipeline.
All: Tim, thanks for your contribution.

4 core Mac Mini. H265 MacOS video. Less emphasis on porting iOS functionality to MacOS and some MacOS innovation. Fixing of annoying MAcOS bugs (e.g. remember desktop arrangement across reboot). Less slimming down, more power.

A seriously updated MacBook to replace my Air if it should die.

This. My Air is officially out of MacOS support this year, but no way I'm either buying again a 7 year old design nor a MacBook offering a 480p FaceTime camera.

That's an easy one: TIM COOK OUT!

He's a finance guy. For sure he isn't a "back to the Mac" guy.

Being able to plug in your 600 dollar iPhone into your 2k MacBook Pro without an adapter would be a good place to start.

These are clearly management mistakes. The same counts for not offering wireless charging or being able to ship Airpods alongside a headfone jack free iPhone.

I think the 2015 Air is close enough to being my perfect notebook. I just wished it had Retina and same footprint as the "12 MacBook.

So why don't get it in the first place? For me the camera is the dealbreaker though.

I'd like to see a pullback from the obsession on thinness. I think they are sacrificing utility for form.

Exclude the Apple Watch please.

Quad Core Mac Mini with upgradeable SSD and RAM.

Seriously, ever since Steve died, it seems like Apple is just milking and riding the wave of Steve's success.

I had the iPhone from launch day, now Apple is meh.

I think Apple needs to introduce more entry level options. I am a MacBook Pro user but many of my friends & family got into using MacOS via the old white MackBook which was a great introduction to the Mac ecosystem. These days the choices are not so easy for them. I have spoken to a number of friends & family who have gone back to a cheap Windows laptop - the main reason, the single USB-C port on the new MacBook confused the hell out of them & so they assumed they needed the more expensive MacBook Pro or MacBook Air. Fortunately as part of my poll I managed to stop a handful and explained how to get the best out of the MacBook, but Apple is loosing the entry level market because non Apple experts don't understand. every one I spoke to who had gone back to a cheap Windows laptop said they hated the switch but several added, they are not going back to Apple again because the pain of switching is too great and they felt abandoned (remember, these are non-technical users).

We've covered what we expect to see from Apple in 2017 based on the rumors that are circulating so far in our recent What to Expect post.

On the horizon are a new iPhone 8 with a radically redesigned body and an edge-to-edge display, a revamped iPad Pro also potentially with an edge-to-edge display, long-awaited iMac updates, and new software, but there's always the chance there's a wildcard update or new product in the works that will surprise us all.

A redesigned Apple TV, a new home hub, and augmented reality smart glasses are all products that are rumored to be in the works with no prospective release date. We want to hear from the MacRumors community -- what are you expecting or hoping to see Apple release in 2017?

2017.jpg

Are there specific features you're hoping Apple will implement in iOS 11, tvOS 11, watchOS 4, or macOS 10.13? Popular wishlist items from last year included a dark mode for iOS, home screen widgets, and a customizable control center.

Let us know what you want to see in the comments, and make sure to check our our What to Expect post for the latest rumors. Apple's plans for 2017 will likely become more clear in the early months of the year, and as always, we'll be covering all of the rumors in-depth here at MacRumors.

The MacRumors forums are also always a rich resource for talking about upcoming products and rumors, and with the biggest iPhone change in years set to happen in 2017, our forums are the place to be for lively discussions.

We'd also like to thank all of our readers and our forum members for making MacRumors the absolute best source for Mac news and advice on the web. We wouldn't be here without you, and we look forward to another rumor-packed year.

How about introducing a product called "The Mac". It's neither Pro or Mini. It has desktop class hardware, like a quad core i7 or i5, 4 to 8 Ram Slots, 2 x 3.5 bays, 2 x M.2 slots, NVIDIA graphics 1080 or 1060, lots of ports. Everything upgradable. Its so simple, Apple leaders would never think of it.

I want Apple to keep pushing the boundaries in regards to thinness and weight.

Considering that right now Apple's method of making products thinner and lighter is to remove ports and not provide a reliable method of replacing those lost ports, especially to connect to non Apple products, I would prefer an outright ban on any more reductions.

This will become even more necessary as Apple has apparently decided that routers, backup devices and second monitors aren't important to them as a company.

I would like to see a competitor to Google Home, and Amazon Echo. This is a huge niche that Apple has missed.

Having Siri control my SmartHome would be nice, but Amazon's Alexa makes it far more convenient and actually does a better job. Sorry Apple, you are losing some of my business.

Functionality over form!
I'll take the same form factor for the MacBook pro-the 2015 size with better internals, same for the mac pro, iMac , the mini and the airs and yes the Iphone..Put me down for an Iphone 7S in June that has upgraded internals for the same price or less. Bring out the 8 in September.
Tim Cook says That We Americans are not smart enough to manufacture Apple products.
What he means is that he wants to keep using Steve's last ideas and milking Apple for himself
and the top brass while using cheap labor.
All the while offering below par products at top dollar.
Lets hope there is a Regime change at Apple for 2017.

I would like to see the computer hardware get more attention and treated as a main business. I will also like to see advancement in OS X and iOS, not just new icons and wallpaper, like something revolutionary.

The single thing I would most like to see from Apple is a return to its prior standards of high quality. Closely followed by it abandoning the tired and crippling "thinner is better" idea.

I would like to see mouse integration with the iPad. I would use it as a thin Clint when I am on my day trips. Also wireless scanning on the iPad which would be an asset for mapping our wireless network. You want to hit back at the surface then these 2itmes would be a big seller.
