iPhone SE update, ideally matching interals of at least iPhone 8.

But Face ID with chinless display would be phenomenal; especially since the SE is rarely updates it seems in their best interest to get off Touch ID.

Mesh routing system

Siri to be unified across all devices
(ie. add HomeKit capabilities to mac’s Siri, let me control the Apple TV from my phone/HomePod)

Homepod mini (or merge it with appletv and give it “hey Siri”)

I haven't read through all 360 posts. All I want is a MacBook Pro with a keyboard that doesn't utterly suck like the current model. I'll gladly trade off an extra 1mm of thickness for keys that have a sensible amount of travel and don't make a loud mechanical clacking noise when you press them (so I can use the laptop in a library).

I happen to own the 2016 13" w/Touch Bar model. There's nothing wrong with it. What do you want to see changed?

My comments relate to the 15" (my work laptop is a 2012 Retina Pro):

1) More than 16GB of memory. I develop software for large-scale high-performance computers. What this means for my Mac is that I often have multiple, large Linux VMs running simultaneously and frequently hit the limit of available RAM. Even with an SSD-based system, the impact of swapping is quite noticeable at times.

2) A physical ESC key - a lot of UNIX editors use ESC to change modes. The "emoji bar" is a waste of real estate for someone like me. I understand that some people like it (and they should certainly have the option of getting it), but dropping the physical ESC key is a real impediment to usability and productivity for me. Making the touchbar a selectable option the way it is on the 13" would be ideal. It would make everybody happy.

3) Getting the Magsafe back would be fantastic. I own a dog and I can't count the number of times the Magsafe has saved my laptop, to say nothing of the times it's kept some yahoo in an airport from destroying my system (see below).

4) Since I'm frequently on the road (50k to 120k flight miles a year), an HDMI output that doesn't require a dongle (which I would inevitably lose in a hurried rush to the nearest airport) would be nice. I've given up on an Ethernet port and have gone through multiple Ethernet dongles already. I have multiple clients whose only on-site network access is via wired Ethernet.

As I said, the Macbook Pro is my (one and only) work machine. I'm a mobile telecommuter, so my work system has to be a laptop. My employer is on a 4-year refresh cycle, so any upgrade has to be beefy enough to work for the next 4 years (and the inevitable software bloat that implies). Since 16GB is actually too small for my current needs (although it was just fine in November, 2012 when I got it), Apple essentially doesn't make a system that works for me *now*, much less for the next 4 years. I absolutely need 32GB. I'd *like* 64GB for future-proofing, but I'm not holding my breath.

I can't speak for the OP, but that's what *I* mean by a better Macbook Pro. Different people have different needs. I'm sure that professional photographers doing a lot of location work would really like a built-in SD card reader, for example (the dongle proliferation problem is a hassle for anyone on the road a lot).

Just holding out for a quad core 13" macbook pro and would love to see the stupid touchbar gone and the horrible keyboard replaced.

Would be nice to get the 3.5mm jack back on the phones but don't see that happening.

In our recent What to Expect post, we covered everything we think we'll see from Apple in 2018 based on the current rumors that are circulating about the company's 2018 plans.

Three new iPhones are on the horizon, one a followup to the iPhone X, one that will serve as an "iPhone X Plus" with a larger OLED display, and one with an LCD display that will be positioned as a low to midrange device with a cheaper price tag. Apple's first smart speaker, the HomePod, will come out in 2018, and we're also expecting a revamped iPad Pro, refreshed Macs, and new software, but there's always a chance for a wildcard update or new product that will surprise us all.

A high-end modular Mac Pro, new original TV shows, AR smart glasses, and autonomous driving software are all products Apple is working on, with no official release date known. We want to hear from the MacRumors community -- what are you expecting or hoping to see Apple release in 2018?

Are there specific features you're hoping Apple will implement in iOS 12, tvOS 12, watchOS 5, or macOS 10.14? Popular wishlist items for last year included a dark mode for iOS, a customizable Control Center (which happened!), animated icons, iPhone complications, a swipe-based keyboard, offline Maps and Siri, and more.

Let us know what you want to see in the comments, and make sure to check out our What to Expect post to get a glimpse at the current rumors. Apple's plans for 2018 will become more clear in the early months of the year, and as always, we'll be covering every rumor that pops up in-depth here at MacRumors.

The MacRumors forums are also a rich resource for discussing upcoming products and rumors, and with so many exciting changes on the horizon for 2018, our forums are the place to be for lively discussions on what's coming.

We'd like to thank all of our readers and forum members for making MacRumors the absolute best source for Apple news, rumors, and advice on the web. We wouldn't be here without you, and we look forward to yet another rumor-packed year in 2018.

In IOS 12 make app logos without name icons. Focus on the iPhone in IOS 12 with better battery life, Faster.

Two things.

First, I’d really like to see Apple change up the SE, despite it being the “budget” iPhone line.

- While the old design of the 5S has served the SE well, I think it’s time to bring the SE’s design more in line with the newer iPhones. The SE would look really sleek with the body of a 7 or 8, but still in a 4” form. That and, the SE could then be given the Taptic Engine.

- 1080p screen for the SE. It’s doable, and I don’t think battery life would take that much of a hit.

Second, I’d like to see Apple go all out on an Apple-branded monitor. I want to see Apple flex its design chops. A super thin display, with an “edgeless” bezel/frame, and with wide gamut 100% DCI-P3. Give us something that cuts a striking profile on top of the desk.

What'd I'd like to see from Apple in 2018 (short version):

- Externally identical iPhone SE with updated specs. I don't want them to ruin it.
- New 'modular' Mac Pro that is easily expandable, more like the 'cheesegrater' models, and starts at a lower price than the iMac Pro.
- A way to turn Wifi off again in CC on iOS.

Better software which I’ve pretty much given up on. Don’t care about the hardware because that naturally improves anyway (apart from removal of ports). The software continues to get worse every year. New features, yes, but more buggy, laggy and just an overall mess.

Maybe what I'd like to see is Apple drop you as a customer. I don't understand you people who are so concerned with products that you want Apple to not make but that other people like and want. There are many people who like the Mac mini and iPad mini - why do you want to make trouble for them?

After several weeks with the iPhoneX, I'm starting to see some drawbacks to Face ID. It's doing ok with recognizing me even when I'm not looking at it, but it has to be looking at me in order to work, which means I often have to pick up the iPhone and point it at myself to get it to open in many situations where that was not an issue with Touch ID. It's frequent enough to be annoying, but not the end of the world since it is easy enough to pick up. For a laptop, it would be a disaster unless they continued to include Touch ID as an alternative.
They are the same type who see nothing wrong with what Apple did with the batteries in older iPhones.

It didn't impact them, because they upgrade every year, and defend Apple's every move. Even the act of mentioning those "other" Apple devices, to say Apple should dump them, is repugnant to them.

I want to see Apple move away from the "thinner and lighter above all else" design criteria. There are situations where this makes more sense, such as wearables (watch, EarPods), but for pro machines, being able to work all day unplugged is more important. And for phones, they should not be crippled if the battery loses 5% of its capacity.
