Significantly improved Siri, especially with the HomePod. Apple has really fallen behind here.

New AirPods, AirPower, a new iPad Mini and a new Apple 5K display to go alongside a better spec'd MacBook Pro and Macbook Air.

An even faster Apple Watch 5 with improved fitness tracking and a slightly better battery.

I’m in the same boat with my MBP. It’s barely even limping along now with what must be some kind of short on the motherboard that is screwing up power management, but I’m at a near total loss for what to do. To replace it I would have to pay a lot more than I did for my current MPB to get a computer that is noticeably worse relative to it’s time, and even absolutely worse in some respects - something I am not even close to excited about.

Part of the issue is not 100% Apple’s fault. For example, if I get a new computer, I feel that it is fairly likely that my Adobe Creative Suite will no longer work on the new OS. This is partially Apple’s fault for not maintaining software compatibility (something that doesn’t seem to be as much a problem for Windows to a mostly-outside observer). But it is also Adobe’s fault for completely discontinuing standalone software in favor of subscriptions.

Something seems really rotten in the world of computer hardware and software, and has felt that way for years.

I’ve been team Apple since I got my first Apple computer at the age of about 5 ... roughly around 1992. I’ve been deeply disappointed in them for several years now and am strongly considering the switch to others.

Maybe I’m crazy but I fail to see why people complain about Apple being expensive. They’ve always been the most expensive. You know you’re getting that. Cost of raw materials goes up year after year. Sure Apple makes a healthy profit but don't expect prices on a premium product to go down in price, that’s just stupidity. You wouldn’t walk into a Mercedes dealership and be pissed they don’t have a price point to match a Hyundai. But it has 4 wheels a motor and a steering wheel. Why would this Mercedes be more? Because you’re buying a premium luxury product. No different for Apple. If you don’t like the price point, you can jump ship.

The problem is not price but value.

Apple used to produce expensive but reliable and beautiful working tools.

Reliability and value, at least in the Mac, have gone down.

Lower prices, more innovation, an overhauled UI in iOS 13, more productivity features to take advantage of the larger iPhone real-estate, USB type C charging become more uniform. Also the AirPower stuff being called off completely.

USB C charging should be 100% uniform. Actually I’d rather see MagSafe on laptops, but given that that isn’t going to happen, move to all USB C.

Actually, no you didn't. You paid for the phone in your service contract. Using that logic, now you can pay apple for the phones by the month. That doesn't mean you are not paying for the phone, you just pay $50 a month for a Xs.
Back in the day I paid 200 for a phone and I paid around 40 dollars per line (plus fees and what not)
Today, I pay about 35 dollars a month for the latest iPhone and I pay about 40 dollars

Using basic math 200 is less then 1,000 when all else is equal.

I want to see…

A less corporate, less arrogant company. Less lawyers; more imaginative programmers.

A return to its humble-brag roots; refrain from assuming its mass presence is proof of superiority.

A renewed emphasis on utility; less emphasis on luxury/fashion.

A more flexible and open ecosystem; not a walled prison.

I want to see:

- Macbook: a model with a working keyboard. Touchbar removed. At least 4 USB-C ports on all laptops.
- iPhone: A smaller model again - even the XS is too big. Use of the new qualcomm GPS chip that provides centimeter level accuracy.

New AI. Not Siri, with incremental improvements. Improvement from terrible is just less terrible. Now that they nabbed the AI guy from Goggle, maybe he can build a team to create something entirely new, behind the scenes. Then they can all it Siri when it is to version 1.0 if they want, while dumping what was Siri. My strong suspicion is that Siri is flawed at the core, and Apple knows this, but has been hiding it while trying to figure out what to do. I'd love to buy a HomePod, and also begin to use HomeKit, but with Siri at their core, forget it.

New Apple Monitor, to go with the promised Mac Pro. Have the monitor be an extension of the Mac Pro that would enhance expandability greatly, which would also make it more likely to be purchased by Mac laptop users at home.

Changes to iOS (some of these are possible with apps, but if part of iOS will work much better) -

- A virtual trackpad so I could work on websites that require that, on the go, and and the ability to connect a real mouse/trackpad when at home.

- Ability to have repeat alerts for all apps

- Ability to see all battery levels on all my devices on each device and user settable alert levels. Very useful for alerts for iPhone battery level on the watch.

- The ability to ring my watch from my iPhone when its lost from control centre (rather than have to log into Find my iPhone)

- Notification/alert on my watch if i move away from my iPhone (user selectable distance from phone for alerts.

- Option not to have the ping sound when charger connected - choices - never, or when DND is engaged or during set hours (I often wake my partner plugging in my device)

- The ability to add an analogue clock to the lockscreen of my devices

- A function like Duet

On that note, it drives me nuts when you highlight the address bar in iOS and before you can copy it, you have to literally sit there and wait 1 second before trying to execute the next command. So much room for improvement with text selection/copying/pasting/editing/etc.

or, even more fun - try to select something in iOS safari: no "Select All" choice, and the "Copy" lozenge snuggles right up close to the selection so your finger can't do practically anything but copy the ONE word you've selected, instead of selecting more of the text...

No more spinning disks in imacs. Storage options that are reasonably priced!!! More advanced iOS - stock apps that do not sucks - mail/calendar apps that work and support shared calendars, reminders app that allows sorting reminders etc, option to run %100 desktop mode browser, file manager that does not suck, message app without the bloat, phone app thst does not take a whole screen - how the f. am i supposed to join a conference bridge??? Come on apple

In the What to Expect article that we shared yesterday, we covered everything we think we'll see from Apple in 2019 based both on historical release data and the current rumors that are circulating about the company's 2019 product plans.

A new modular Mac Pro is in the works, and 2019 may be the year that we finally get the AirPower. Apple has more than a dozen original TV shows, which are set to debut through an upcoming streaming TV service that's coming in early 2019. Three new iPhones are on the horizon, and we may see updated AirPods, a new HomePod, and perhaps Apple-branded over-the-ear headphones.

We're also expecting a new Apple Watch, updated versions of iOS and macOS with exciting new features, a refreshed iPad mini, and a redesigned lower-cost iPad, which could be 10 inches instead of 9.7. There's also a chance that Apple has some surprises in the works that we don't yet know about.

AR smart glasses, a virtual reality headset, an Apple Car, and autonomous driving software are all products Apple is rumored to be working on, with no official launch date known. We want to hear from the MacRumors community - what are you hoping to see Apple release in 2019?

Are there specific features you're hoping Apple will implement in iOS 13 or macOS 10.15? New AirPods and HomePod functions you're hoping for? Additions to the Mac and iPhone lineup?

Let us know what you want to see in the comments, and make sure to check out our What to Expect post for a look at the current rumors. Apple's 2019 product plans will become clearer in the early months of the year, and as always, we'll be covering every Apple rumor in depth here at MacRumors.

The MacRumors forums are also a rich resource for discussing upcoming products and rumors, and with so many product launches on the horizon for 2019, our forums are the place to be for lively discussions on what's coming.

Thank you to all of our readers and forum members for making MacRumors the absolute best source of Apple news, rumors, and advice on the web. We wouldn't be here without you, and we look forward to another rumor-filled year in 2019. Happy New Year!

Or how about this? A simple dongle that would plug into the earphone jack of any device by any manufacturer that would allow it to be used an AirPlay device? Start demolishing that damn walled garden where it would seem this could be done without any serious risk to the individual user's security.

I get the idea that the i walled garden as so strictly implemented is only partly motivated by security concerns (praiseworthy as these are). Sometimes, as with the ways in which app sales are limited to Store, it reeks of using security as a flimsy excuse for perpetrating a monopolistic business practice.
