Make an entry level iPhone/iPad with headphone jack and touch id, rather than wireless only/face id only phones at the higher price point. Bring back a decent set of ports and non-butterfly keyboards on laptops, and provide enough cooling so that they don't throttle with the latest i9 chips. Make both iMacs and other desktop models easier to open up for upgrades and repairs. Stop gluing/soldering otherwise replaceable parts, and make it simple to vacuum iMacs to prevent overheating. Apple has succeeded in driving me away from their phones, tablets, and laptops over the last several years, but so far I still use iMacs (on my third one) as my home desktop. If my current one (a year old) experiences cooling problems in the next couple of years (due to dust accumulation), I will likely move to a nice Linux desktop as a replacement. There has never been a better time to buy high quality PC's at reasonable prices, and which are easily serviceable and upgradeable, and desktop Linux systems have made huge strides in the last 5-6 years. Wish I could say the same about Apple products of late.

In the What to Expect article that we shared yesterday, we covered everything we think we'll see from Apple in 2019 based both on historical release data and the current rumors that are circulating about the company's 2019 product plans.

A new modular Mac Pro is in the works, and 2019 may be the year that we finally get the AirPower. Apple has more than a dozen original TV shows, which are set to debut through an upcoming streaming TV service that's coming in early 2019. Three new iPhones are on the horizon, and we may see updated AirPods, a new HomePod, and perhaps Apple-branded over-the-ear headphones.

apple2019-800x425.jpg

We're also expecting a new Apple Watch, updated versions of iOS and macOS with exciting new features, a refreshed iPad mini, and a redesigned lower-cost iPad, which could be 10 inches instead of 9.7. There's also a chance that Apple has some surprises in the works that we don't yet know about.

AR smart glasses, a virtual reality headset, an Apple Car, and autonomous driving software are all products Apple is rumored to be working on, with no official launch date known. We want to hear from the MacRumors community - what are you hoping to see Apple release in 2019?

Are there specific features you're hoping Apple will implement in iOS 13 or macOS 10.15? New AirPods and HomePod functions you're hoping for? Additions to the Mac and iPhone lineup?

Let us know what you want to see in the comments, and make sure to check out our What to Expect post for a look at the current rumors. Apple's 2019 product plans will become clearer in the early months of the year, and as always, we'll be covering every Apple rumor in depth here at MacRumors.

The MacRumors forums are also a rich resource for discussing upcoming products and rumors, and with so many product launches on the horizon for 2019, our forums are the place to be for lively discussions on what's coming.

Thank you to all of our readers and forum members for making MacRumors the absolute best source of Apple news, rumors, and advice on the web. We wouldn't be here without you, and we look forward to another rumor-filled year in 2019. Happy New Year!

Let me merge my iTunes and iCloud IDs.

Also give back access to my purchases from the iTunes Store under an old email address.

Partner with a company that makes a HomeKit enabled landline phone that uses contacts as a white list has a black list and supports landline calls through HomePod. We get several spam calls per day on our landline. Cell service is unreliable at our home so we are stuck with a landline.

I didn't mean for this to be one of those "cool story bro" posts, but whatevs.

I want to see a *new* product. Remember the days of a completely new product? iMac, iPod, iPhone, iPad, MacBook, or breaking the music industry with $0.99 songs? These products shifted the entire landscape of tech. What have they done post-Jobs? Watches, smart speakers, self-driving cars... LOL You think there is an Apple tax on an iPhone, imagine the iCar????? For just $49,999 you get CarPlay and the equivalent of a nicely equipped Toyota Corolla. No thanks Timmy...

And they are selling less iPhones, but making more money, simply because they are charging more. At the expense of the customer and to the benefit for the shareholder, prices are continually rising to maintain growth. I don't know about you, but a $1000.00 phone is already stupid in my book. I switched to the Pixel when it first came out and I'm on the Pixel 2. Google wants me to pay more now, with really no new features... sorry. My limit for a phone is about $650, and even that just a few years ago would sound silly.

In my old age I've discovered that because I have more money now than I did several years ago, there is no need to go and spend it on things I don't really need that don't really offer a breakthrough in anything.

My 2012 rMBP is still kicking and is plenty fast for what I use it for, and I have a mini I use as a backup/second computer when I need it. When the rMBP dies or gets too slow for my taste, I'll be in a real quandary about what to do. Macs don't excite me anymore. I used to upgrade annually. They've not impressed me since 2012.

The only reason I stick with Apple is because I don't like to use computers made of plastic and I prefer the OS over Windows. I've seen laptops that I would consider switching out my rMBP for, but then the prices get close to a MBP, and at that price point, why switch? But someday I can see myself out of the Apple ecosystem altogether and it will be because they left me.

I've been team Apple since 2005, but the excitement has long burned out of this relationship.

Don't care, so long as it's thin. More thinness. It's the only thing that makes any sense in electronic products. Don't care how long it takes to render a 3D model, or how much storage or what graphics it has, just make it the hell thinner.

Obviously this is sarcasm, but seriously almost every device Apple makes is plenty thin enough already. Making them any thinner is just taking away performance of some sort - extra battery life at the very least, the ability to have ports, or structural soundness.

I would happily accept marginally thicker devices with more performance or better features.

iMac updates, specifically a re-design. I would like to see some kind of biometrics in the iMac as well.

An Apple display for the Mac Mini and new Mac Pro. The current LG displays are no substitute.

I would like to see FaceID and 120 Hz displays brought to the Mac.

In addition to pencil support on the phone, I’d like it on the MacBook Pro too. I tried one of the windows based machines, but their stylus was no where as good as the Pencil. And not all Mac OS apps are available yet on the iPad.

My list:

Soundbar combined with a more flexible music environment. More like Sonos but with Apple security and echo system integration.

Open the above system to all music apps.

A TV stick vs the big box for Apple TV. Enough box’s and power plugs already. USB powered. A nice touch to add, half or more the current price of the Current Apple TV.

I would like the ability to, for no better term, boot camp into IOS on the MacBook. Add touch screen for the media consumers who need the flexibility of IOS and MacOS but not power users. Not for everyone but a good niche market if done well. Not only a cost savings but a nice all in one system. Better description a Surface Pro done correctly.

All iPads need an Apple Keyboard with the supporting port.

Need to expand the price points for the iPhone downward. Many need a quality phone that provides a hub for their devices like Apple Watch leveraging the Apple echo system. Many of the expensive iPhone features, would not be missed.

I would like the new Mac Pro, a USB-C iPhone, and a slight price decrease on all Apple products. (Apple's pricing has become so excessive, that consumers are actually angry and feel like they're being robbed. That's not a good position for Apple to be in with their customers).

A serious development of HomeKit. It’s almost dying now. And the extremely odd strategic mistake to shut down the Airport series. routers and network infrastructure is the backbone on every future smart home.

Develop a mesh network airport serie. With new Wifi 6 support of course, and 5G . Have BLE extenders built in, (not extra apple TVs as apple recommends..), have high quality microphones for Siri. Then you can have Siri and HomeKit access everywhere in your home, and it’s all hidden. That’s something that’s in Apples DNA.

The certification process must be simplified for HomeKit, seems to take years now for third party developers to get approval, of the few things that are developed for HomeKit.

Apple needs to stop see everything as a hobby, except iPhones. Apple must also understand its on the verge to lose the upcoming generation totally because of its price “strategy”.

I'd like to see functionality and an API for sharing of documents and data collections via iCloud. That means, the ability to share files on iCloud Drive like dropbox, to create "shared iCloud drives" with family members, and cleaner/smoother ways to share iTunes playlists and Photos albums with others. The interface would need to account for file-level sharing permissions, and enable people to read or read/write. I'd like to think that we have yet to see the benefits from APFS and this might be one of them.

Happy New Year Macrumors. I would like to see an updated imac- better graphics, space gray option, no slow fusion drives , thinner bezels even if the chin stays. The bezels is what’s an eye sore imo. Also the rumored “improved display” , I don’t care about. It’s already great, you don’t need True Tone for a desktop that is stationary, where as a mobile laptop for outside does make benefit.

Speaking of iMac, unless I missed its citation, this article and many others does not even mention the iMac nor show its image; only Mac Pro is mentioned as far as desktops.

Please give more attention to iMac.

I disagree, headphone jacks and touch id are dead. Less wires, less clutter- Bt is better. Plus less ways for water to seep in.

As far as build quality, Apple is doing what’s right. If you want a customizable and acessible machine, go buy a $300 PC at walmart

Lower prices, more innovation, an overhauled UI in iOS 13, more productivity features to take advantage of the larger iPhone real-estate, USB type C charging become more uniform. Also the AirPower stuff being called off completely.

Microsoft has done an excellent job of creating a seamless user experience between platforms.
Unfortunately, that is absolutely not true. Even Windows fans agree that W10 tablet experience is just bad. And I know it from personal experience, since I owned several 2in1 W10 devices (including MS' very own Surface Pro). I say, no thank you.

My simplistic wish list
  • In the ear, water resistant AirPods with BT 5
  • More enabled health sensors on the Apple Watch
  • A smaller HomePod that’s designed to operate in clusters
  • HomePod software that differentiates the users voice
  • A seamless way for me to access purchased iTunes movies and tv shows purchased by family members
  • A way to merge Apple IDs
  • An Apple TV that’s more interactive with HomePod like voice controls

My involved wish list
  • take the disparate collection of devices and interoperable protocols and make their ecosystem tighter and more integrated such that Siri knows who and where I am and is able to hold an intelligent conversation with me.
  • Force the use of Siri in all aspects of Apple corporate that make sense. Have Siri answer their phones, take messages, direct calls, diagnose issues..
  • have my Siri talk to other Siri’s.

My pissed off wish list
  • force the Apple developers to work a part of the work year in the sticks, where cell service is spotty and weak, WiFi isn’t always available and internet connections are slow, i.e. the real world.

I’m in the same boat with my MBP. It’s barely even limping along now with what must be some kind of short on the motherboard that is screwing up power management, but I’m at a near total loss for what to do. To replace it I would have to pay a lot more than I did for my current MPB to get a computer that is noticeably worse relative to it’s time, and even absolutely worse in some respects - something I am not even close to excited about.

Part of the issue is not 100% Apple’s fault. For example, if I get a new computer, I feel that it is fairly likely that my Adobe Creative Suite will no longer work on the new OS. This is partially Apple’s fault for not maintaining software compatibility (something that doesn’t seem to be as much a problem for Windows to a mostly-outside observer). But it is also Adobe’s fault for completely discontinuing standalone software in favor of subscriptions.

Something seems really rotten in the world of computer hardware and software, and has felt that way for years.

I’ve been team Apple since I got my first Apple computer at the age of about 5 ... roughly around 1992. I’ve been deeply disappointed in them for several years now and am strongly considering the switch to others.

I'd like to see Apple rescue HomePod from the doldrums by completely rethinking it. At its high price level it is actually competing against premium (although not astronomically so) general purpose speakers which can be used in some situations where the "walled garden" design of the HomePod stands in the way of how it should be marketable as a universal speaker, most notably for employment with sound systems and home theaters (beyond those dependent exclusively on Apple TV). That would make the investment in a pair of HomePods far more justifiable for many potential purchasers, so that its sales would in all probability benefit. Doing this might involve no more than a firmware revision that would allow the individual user to take advantage of the Bluetooth 5 circuitry already built into each unit, what a cheap and easy change! Sometimes I wonder if Apple's idiosyncratic "walled garden" philosophy gets in the way of the moneymaking.
