All I want for hardware is the 11” iPad Pro with XDR. Either miniLED or OLED. That would be my dream device for content consumption. A mini version of iPad Pro is welcomed as well (even though it will probably never exist)
I’m on the iPad Pro 11” 2020 and am waiting for the display upgrade to mini-LED or OLED. If it’s still compatible with my Magic Keyboard, I’ll buy in a heartbeat…and they really should make it compatible so they don’t waste all those Magic Keyboards….

My top 3 things I want to see from Apple in the year 2022.

1. The software and Hardware team need to work together. Communication is the 🔑
I want Apple’s Software team to work together with the hardware team. Lately, they have not been working together. So many bugs in the software. Yes, the hardware is there to support it but the software is just lagging. It is behind. More bug fixes. Quality control should be the #1 priority.

2. No more notch
I don’t want to see a “NOTCH” anymore. It’s outdated. It’s 2022 the notch should not be there anymore.

3. No higher prices
I don’t want prices to hike up anymore from Apple. Prices were already up for Apple products in 2021. There’s no need to increase them anymore.
but wait, I thought the notch is coming to the watch??? /s

Greater emphasis on security and privacy. Not in terms of marketing, it is easy to produce slogans and sentences which promise much. In real and effective design and implementation from the ground up. In knowing that reports of breaches are addressed as quickly as possible. In seeing Apple identifying issues ahead of customers and, most importantly, ahead of those who would exploit them.

A new mouse that is designed for human hands, with actual clickable buttons (or haptic feedback), scroll wheel and a USB-C charging port with a placement designed by someone who actually uses a mouse. And while you're at it: offer it in matching M1 iMac colors (plus space grey for those who love that color).

The light up Apple on the MacBook! The notch doesn’t really bother me. I see it like this, I’d rather have the bezel thick in one small spot on the front (understandable for the camera) rather than a thick bezel all the way around.

I want to get into VR but I don't want to get into Oculus, which is Meta, which is Facebook, which is evil. Unfortunately it looks like they're winning the market share. I hope Apple releases a worthy competitor.

Different hands option on Apple Watch. Options for more ornate Watch hands on the face. All the hands look the same, unless it’s Mickey Mouse. A beautiful Watch deserves beautiful hands.

I think my wishes are simple, but Apple won’t make us happy with any of them:
No annual OS releases, just focus on quality and security.
iPhone SE 3 and iPad 8 with more RAM. I think all the specs in the current devices are good enough except the RAM.
Upgradable Macs. The tight integration has benefits, but one should always be able to at least upgrade the RAM and SSD.
More bezels! “***** are you thinking”, “it’s 2022, not 1984”. Well, the bezels all have a function. Lots of games don’t play well on bezel-less iPads and on the Mac we get that fugly notch. Let’s go back to functional design. Not minimal design.
Fix the macOS music app. Many people did complain about iTunes, but it’s replacement is a complete abomination. Just to mention a few things:
- Doesn’t have the filter search
- New playlists are always created with the playlist view instead of the ‘song’-view
- Playlists are hardly visible due to the artwork and name on top of it unless you have a 2560x5120 screen (it’s better in Monterey than Big Sur, but I want to be gone).
- You can only hide Apple Music via Parental Controls now, I don’t want subscriptions for music, never.
- No more library XML available on the fly, the replacement API is lacking a lot functions.

Go back to a once every two or three years for a major OS update for the Mac. Nobody really does any real work on a phone so it doesn't matter as much how crappy iOS is, but people use the Mac to do real work and need an OS that isn't constantly being yanked around every year just to keep on the same cycle as iOS. Once they have a bit of a breather between versions of macOS they can start doubling down on fixing all the bugs that are introduced as they try to make it more like iOS.

Apple Silicon iMac Pro replacement (either another iMac Pro or a lower-cost Mac Pro at a similar price point).

Less expensive Apple Pro Display and one with a camera (to better accomodate work from home; no need for a separate device).

An iPhone 14 Pro such that with the case on, it can lay flat once more. Every iPhone I've owned (except for the iPhone 13 Pro) can lay flat. Absolutely hate the lip around the camera housing.

AirPods Pro with bettery battery life. Though I don't think we'll get to 6 hours or more of talk time anytime soon on such a small device. Or... AirPods Max weighing far less than the original version.

An iMac with height adjustment for better ergonomics (I want the current model to go lower before anyone suggests putting books under the stand).

An affordable monitor with height adjustment and preferably a squarer aspect ratio (something similar to the iPad at 4:3 would be ideal, same goes for the iMac).

Less nagging from macOS, iOS, etc. (no nagging is a large part of why I switched from Windows in the first place back in the Tiger days).

And as an iOS developer, the option to disable Reachability for an app (swiping actions in a game are basically unusable unless the user decides to turn it off Reachability at the system level, which they may not want to do as it is a good feature for some apps, see Apple Arcade game Threes as an example of how bad it can be).

I still very much like the yearly releases since as a developer, this gives us improved/new APIs. e.g. they can continue to focus on API parity between AppKit/UIKit and SwiftUI.

But for the vast majority of users, Apple could indeed choose just to focus on quality and security for a particular OS release.

A higher-end Apple Silicon Mac Mini using the M1 Pro chip or similar, or even the rumored "Mac Pro Cube." (An M1 Max would be nice, but for my needs the M1 Pro would be just fine, with 32 GB of unified memory.)
