I have a young child who frequently does something that makes me want to get a video fast, and the moment is often lost by the time I’ve picked up my phone, done Face ID, clicked the camera icon, swiped across to Video, and hit the record button.

You can shorten this process considerably by just picking your iPhone > swiping the lock-screen to the left (this will open up the camera app) > long pressing the shutter button (will start recording the video for as long as you keep pressing it).

So no FaceID, clicking the camera icon and swiping to video.

Not to mention a camera control button that seems in the way. Hopefully you can disable it.
I never get these kinds of post. Action button, camera button, AI… ‘I hope I can disable that nonsense’. Tell me: why would you buy such a phone if you don’t like the new features???

There's the comparison page but yeah, there's barely anything new. And pretty much nothing to care about in order to upgrade from last year.

Ok just seen the keynote
Very underwhelming. I have the 15pm and I need to upgrade to 512gb
But I can’t see what’s changed??
Same screen, minor size increase
Slightly faster processor
Camera control
4k120 video

And that’s pretty much it??
Even the Apple Watches and AirPods barely improved either ……I know people say this every time but I really can’t see all those “innovations” they talk about

Silly me. But look where the button is. Then I look at how I hold my iPhone. I’m going to be pressing that camera button inadvertently every time I use it.

I suppose you’ll have to wait for reviews before people figure this out. lol

Even the colors for the regular 16 are better than the Pro options. May be time to go back to Google. Apple is so so boring now

They are going to put out a new iPhone every year until eternity whether it’s an improvement over the previous model or not.

Notice that the 15P and 15PM no longer are available at the ap store (because there would be no compelling reason to buy the 16P or PM.

easily an upgrade for me 16 pro max 256gb, 512/1tb is borderline overkill, can just hook an external ssd via usb-c if i really want more intense working... my 11 Pro max screen decided to glitch and turn white on a portion lol...
im happy the prices stayed the same as i got my previous phone in 2019 for the exact same price...

While I’m fairly happy with my 15PM my battery capacity is currently at 88% after a year. I’m on the Apple annual upgrade plan so if I upgrade to the 16PM with the same memory my monthly payments are unchanged. That being the case I’m wondering why not upgrade?

If you don’t upgrade:
  • You will pay off your phone within a year and be able to sell it when the 17 comes out.
  • You will not have to pay sales tax on a new phone this year.
  • You will not have to buy a new iPhone case to fit the 16 (if you’re a case person).
For what it’s worth, I’m in the same position and will most likely upgrade anyway, even though I’m not super excited about any of the new features yet.

I'd be careful before upgrading. I saw the presentation for the iPad Pro 2024 on May 7, and, since I had the 2018 12.9" iPP, thought it would be worth upgrading to the 13". The presentation made it look as if the 2024 version was a huge improvement over the 6-year-old Pro. It wasn't. I still have a 2018 iPad Pro 11 and the older 2018 Pro 12.9" Pro. The only thing I notice about the newer iPP is that it's lighter. Otherwise, for me at least, using it feels exactly he same as the older machine. The presentation for the new iPhone was very slick (not surprisingly). But it's easy to be taken in and spend money you don't need to on features you may never use. Do you really need to take a picture of a restaurant sign and then see the menu? All you have to do is google it. I suppose if you were a professional photographer it would be useful, but for me my iPhone 13 pro max is more than adequate. If, next year, they come out with a much lighter iPhone with a large enough screen, I will be tempted.
I disagree. The iPad Pro 2024 13 was a huge upgrade, especially since I got the nano screen too. Love the new Face ID location, brighter screen, new Magic Keyboard. Solid upgrade over my 3 year old iPad Pro 12.9.

I’m likely going to upgrade from 15PM to 16PM for the 15% better battery life (up to 4 hours more) and having it run cooler. Everything else is just extra. The decision is certainly influenced from the fact that trade in values are best within the 1st year/next iteration.
Did they verify it will run cooler? That would be nice coming from the 15 PM. It seems to go dim too easily, when getting hot.

I have a 14 pro max that is now paid off from the iPhone upgrade program. After watching the rumors all year and now watching the keynote, I will be waiting for the 17. I don’t see the point of trading in or going to a much more expensive phone plan to get the extra trade in credit from the carrier. The rumors for the 17 over the 14 are looking like a more drastic change with a smaller Dynamic Island and more ram so that’s what I’ll be waiting for.

I have a 14 Pro and was hoping the 16PM would have a better main camera sensor but it's the same. To get 48MP ultra wide, I can buy a wide angle lens for the very few times when 12MP UW isn't enough. Or I can shoot a bunch of 48MP ProRaw and stitch them together. The screen sizes are just a few mm larger, CPU speed up a tiny bit in real world use.

I can wait a year...
Same here.
