Did they verify it will run cooler? That would be nice coming from the 15 PM. It seems to go dim too easily, when getting hot.

I believe they gave a brief shoutout in the presentation to the heat sink/thermals. Was just a sentence or two and I’d have to go back to find the specifics but for Apple to mention it that’s a great thing. It was/is an obvious shortcoming of the 15PM so I’m not surprised. They downplayed it by saying it was a software issue and perhaps it was for some rare cases of insane levels of heat, but even after those “fixes” it was so clear they ran much hotter than usual.

I have a shocking concept, that may be too out there for this forum, but maybe u don't have to upgrade a $1000 personal computer every year... just maybe...
Funny I was explaining to my parents what the upcoming changes were and they are staying on their 12's. I also gifted my mom an Ultra watch 2 earlier this year and let her know it will soon detect sleep apnea, she doesn't care and wants it disabled once the update drops lol.

Everyone's itching to open the same 5 apps milliseconds faster and consume more cloud storage so they can give $10.99+ for life. If companies really cared for the environment they wouldn't have annual hardware refreshes.

The post is about the difference between last years PM and the latest - not the difference between PM and Pro

Ok just seen the keynote
Very underwhelming. I have the 15pm and I need to upgrade to 512gb
But I can’t see what’s changed??
Same screen, minor size increase
Slightly faster processor
Camera control
4k120 video

And that’s pretty much it??
Even the Apple Watches and AirPods barely improved either ……I know people say this every time but I really can’t see all those “innovations” they talk about
I'm happy, my 15 PM is only a little obsolete. It's almost cutting edge, most people won't know what phone I have. :p

Silly me. But look where the button is. Then I look at how I hold my iPhone. I’m going to be pressing that camera button inadvertently every time I use it.

I suppose you’ll have to wait for reviews before people figure this out. lol
Yeah, I also don’t know if I’ll like the button or not, but buying a phone with new features only to disable those features seems… silly.

My 15 Plus (256 GB) works perfectly and the battery life is great, yet seeing that ***** keynote I’m really looking into preordering the 16 Pro Max (1 TB), and the Watch 10 and perhaps some new AirPods Pro’s… I’m such a sucker, but at least I can afford it, I never buy anything on credit… so whatever… Maybe I’ll indulge, maybe not, haven’t decided yet

Wi-fi 7
Much better battery life
Slightly better camera

I was not impressed by the keynote either. I never passed an iPhone gen, I think this year I might, I am not that excited to get it.

Was the Samsung high performance M14 OLED panel on the Pro rumor true or not? They didn’t announce any display changes, but tech details like this usually don’t get highlighted.

I read an article on TomsGuide about the hardware design changes being made to the 16 for heat dissipation a while ago. It seems some of this was alluded to in the keynote.

But on my 15PM, almost anytime (in the summer maybe?) that I take about 30 pictures in succession, it will have to stop during the upload because the phone is too hot. So the heat issue is very real at least on my phone.

Of course, but some see Apple as some kind of circus that owes them new attractions and fresh entertainment every year.

That’s the thing. It’s not sustainable to cram enough features into an iPhone that would make it an “instant upgrade” compared to the previous year’s model. Technology simply does not improve that quickly, it’s expensive and wasteful, and the reality is that most users are not going to rush out to upgrade anyways because their current phone is currently good enough.

Exactly. Apple has an array of products that it hones and refines – some of them every year, some less often. Once a decade or so they come up with a new product. Nothing more, nothing less.

As consumer, you just look and see whether a particular Apple product on offer is useful and worth having for you. If it is, then buy it. If it isn't, then don't. This isn't exactly the stuff for long-running drama series that this forum turns it into.

Where is it $800 unlocked?

Sorry. I misread the $800. The $800 applies to the 16 and for carriers.

Answering the question objectively:
What's better about the 16 Pro Max (vs 15 Pro Max)?

0.2'' bigger display
1 nit minimum brightness
Latest-gen Ceramic Shield
15% faster CPU
20% faster GPU
??% faster Neural Engine (They don't say how much faster...)
2x faster hardware raytracing
20% increase in memory bandwidth (faster RAM)
Longer battery life (33h of video playback instead of 29h)
Faster MagSafe charging up to 25W
New Camera Control button
"Fusion" Camera (instead of "Main". Same hardware, tho. No idea if there are software differences to Deep Fusion. Maybe combining data from the 48MP Ultra Wide?)
48MP Ultra Wide
Dolby Vision video recording up to 4K at 120fps
QuickTake video up to 4K at 60 fps in Dolby Vision
Spatial photos and videos (Isn't portrait mode the same as Spatial Photos? Not sure about this one...)
Latest-gen Photographic Styles
"Studio-quality" four-mic array
Wind noise reduction
Audio Mix
WI-FI 7 (Max theoretical speed of 46Gbps)

That's it ;)

Also:
Slimmer bezels.
Exclusive AI features not available on the iPhones 15 Pros.

I'm not understanding how anyone can be disappointed with the new phones. This is a huge upgrade for everyone.

Not for me, if I had an iPhone 12 or even maybe a 13 ok. As others have said AI may take a long time to come outside the US.

You guys are more lucky than many of
you know… Outside of the U.S. the prices are so much higher - importation fees and sales taxes - you have no idea…
The iPhone 16 128gb is $799 USD and £799 GBP.
The 799 USD converts to £610 GBP, but it excludes sales tax.
If you add 20% as a sales tax to $799 it comes to $958, which is less than $100 difference with the U.K. version after a currency conversion ($1045)

I can’t speak for every country but I don’t feel like in the U.K. I’m being charged an extortionate difference.

It certainly is not a giant leap. Mostly software promised at a later date. People will be disappointed but I will still upgrade to the 16 ProMax with 1TB. I do every year.

Here it’s around 1000 USD for that base model. I think that difference is quite significant, but to each their own. You think it’s fair, and I don’t. Also, Mexico is far closer to the US than the UK, and supposedly we have a trade agreement.

I didn't use the word "fair" I said "I can't speak for every country but I don't feel like in the UK I'm being charged an extortionate difference."

The actual amount being spent in the USA will vary by state, whereas in the UK it's fixed because sales tax is uniform around the country. So my previous figures were not exact, but as a rough guide I'm personally not upset about a less than $100 difference

Just some things to add to your list:

There is a new cooling system in the 16 pro that raises the sustained performance levels by 30%. I don't have the 15 pro but I understand overheating was an issue.

There are also some substantial camera upgrades but the camera has been more than adequate for my purposes since the 13.

Some improved microphones, so you now capture audio in spacial format. Again not pressing feature but its new.

Increased battery life.

Pretty significant CPU/GPU upgrade over the 15 pro.
