Yep putting a button flush with side where you usually grip the phone to use seems sort of dumb.
I don't see it being a problem, lots of phones used to have a camera button in exactly that place. It also won't be flush when you've put a case on, and that will make it practically impossible to accidentally activate it while it's in your palm.

Re: all the discussion on foldables, one of the reasons I keep my phone current is that I think the aesthetics, look and feel, whatever you call it, of the foldable is awful. The whole crease thing is just a nightmare to look at imho. Seeing it in the display would drive me crazy. I really don't think they will be mainstream, but if they are I have some confidence the market of people that don't like them will be large enough there will be some options there, and in any case I'll keep my last non-foldable iPhone until it drops dead lol.

Since I had an extremely hard time seeing any difference to the camera quality between my 14pmax and 15pmax I guess this year will be the same. To me the difference between 15p and 16p is largest in years.
Bigger display
A camera control button.

Ok just seen the keynote
Very underwhelming. I have the 15pm and I need to upgrade to 512gb
But I can’t see what’s changed??
Same screen, minor size increase
Slightly faster processor
Camera control
4k120 video

And that’s pretty much it??
Even the Apple Watches and AirPods barely improved either ……I know people say this every time but I really can’t see all those “innovations” they talk about
So why ask if you already know the differences?

Funny I know a few people that have the fold and flip. Crease is barely even visible if visible at all. Have you actually seen one in person?

Apple still follows the same "S" cycle they used to, but people seem to have forgotten about it and instead for some reason expect major upgrades every year.

New design is implemented in the first year, then refined design the second year.

15PM was the new design - titanium frame, action button, USB-C, new camera array, new curved glass. 16 is an "S" year - same design, faster, slightly larger frame. New aluminum cooling design to have better heat dissipation. Better camera array. New camera feature (Camera Control.)

Next year we are back on year 1, so likely a new look for the phones again.

12/13/14 Pro had the same (essential) design language, with the polished steel flat edges - I wouldn’t be surprised if they’ve moved to more of a three model scheme, as in 12, 12S, 12SS

I was just on Apple's site comparing the two and honestly...it's the smallest of incremental improvements between the 15 Pro and 16 Pro. I have the 15 Pro and watching the keynote, I was underwhelmed with the 16 Pro. Sure, the improvements are neat and impressive but not enough to make me upgrade. I could see people who are using 14/14 Pro and earlier jumping on this though. Its obvious that the every OTHER year upgrade is more worth it IMO.
Even for slightly larger size.

Lot of people who haven't actually used one have these opinions and they just aren't facual.

I skipped the 15 pro max because I thought that was a very minimal upgrade over the 14 pro max. Isn't the 16 pro max a bigger upgrade over the 15 pro max than the 15 pro max was over the 14 pro max?

To me, the crease is really noticeable on all folds and flips - and that is just from testing in stores.

What’s also the bigger problem to me, is the “plastic screen feeling”, it’s almost like from the resistive screens from early 2000 (on some phones). The touch itself is better obviously but the feeling is wrong.

Funny I’ve seen them and used them they aren’t that noticeable. I get it, you’d like it if it were apple
No No i had a Pixel Fold for a little while loved it. Android is just difficult for me as every friend and family member uses iOS

This is the point. Most sane people* don't buy a new phone every year. When they're ready all those small increments will have added up into a really big update. If you're just coming out of an iPhone 13 contract can you imagine how much of a leap forward the 16 will seem?

(*I used to switch between Android and iOS every 6 months due to ennui. It was a nutso thing to do in hindsight. This year will be the first year I've stuck with the same device, an iPhone 13, for a whole 12 months)

The irony is it's different for everyone. I've decided to stand pat on my 13PM. We don't typically do contracts, so the NZ$2800 for the new phone, and $500 if I'm lucky when I sell… There just isn't that difference. I think in the countries where you do have typical 2/3 year contracts, it is set up to get you to update. I don't feel any pressure because I have to pay the full monty.

Why do you have to pay the full monty? I buy from Apple so no contract. Then I trade in with Apple and put the value to the new phone. I can’t remember what my 14PM retail price was but I’ll assume around £1200-1300, and Apple is giving just under £500 for it now.
A drop from 2800 to 500 at the high end is a very different scenario to here.

Exactly this. The plasticky screen with a crease line at the centre. Yuck.

Well I’m sure you will let us know how you really feel about the new phones once you trade in your 15 pm for the new 16 pm and start a new post on how great the camera button is on it 😂🤣😆

I have been keeping list of all the changes over the 15 PM phone, starting (and with THANKS!) to @UKapple73 for starting this thread and his list! Here is the latest Ihave, it is a fair amount of stuff - mind you, many may not be interested in. But it's here for your review...

Do people really upgrade their phones every year? I usually wait 3-5 years. Only reason I went with the 15 is for USB-C that is it. I fully expect my phone to last 5 years.
