Play Mechanicus then if you love strategy. It's an XCOMlike where you play as the Adeptus Mechanicus, the cult of the machine. The Imperium's science division and builders of their weaponry residing on Mars who desire to replace every organic part of their bodies with machine. You go to a planet you believe to be rich in knowledge, only to discover it's a Necron tomb world (Necrons are robot undead) and the entire planet will wake in two weeks unless you can lead your Tech Priests to find a way to stop it.

And of course the game is on Mac

Awesome thanks for the recommendation. Just checked on Steam and it's less the $20!

All Warhammer 40k games are massively discounted right now since it's Warhammer Skulls.

There's also Battlefleet Gothic which is a absolutely metal RTS where you're an Imperial fleet admiral. It's so metal your second in command is literally named Lord Admiral Ravensberg

Forgive me for mentioning mobile games when this post's flair specifically refers to Mac and PC games, but I've been playing this game via PlayCover (a Mac sideloading application) and can't currently access most actual games thanks to only recently having made the switch to macOS. So please forgive me for my impudence, lol.

Regardless, I've been playing this online ARPG called Aether Gazer lately. I bring it up because 1. It launched globally just over a week ago, and 2. I've been enjoying it quite a lot. Granted, it's similar to other mobile games of its kind in that it's a pay to win (P2W) mess if you want to max out all the characters or even if you just get unlucky in the gacha, but I'm long used to that monetization model by now. Yes, I'm a terminal mobile game degenerate. I need serious help.

In spite of that, however, I've been liking it a lot more than the other mobile ARPGs I've played so far. Honkai Impact 3rd is dead to me because the P2W-ness of that game is too much for even me to tolerate, and Punishing: Gray Raven had a rough launch and therefore, I didn't build up my account when it mattered, leaving me far behind. So the opportunity to start a game of this genre from scratch and actually dedicate myself to it is much appreciated.

As for whether I think you guys should play it... honestly, as much as I've been enjoying it, that's a solid no. The game's difficulty will be far from satisfactory for someone who enjoys stylish action games on PC and console (Devil May Cry, Bayonetta, etc.), and the P2W factor will be an instant turnoff for most people. For example, skins costing $15 in Aether Gazer will seem reasonable to a mobile game player and inexcusable for a PC game player. Just one of many examples of exorbitant pricing that only get a pass for live service, free to start games.

But if you're used to mobile game BS and are looking for a fresh action game to try out, this one's a good try, I'd say. Yostar being the publisher is a huge draw in and of itself since they're one of the few well-reputed ones in the mobile industry, giving out plenty of freebies as both compensation and to celebrate game milestones, and almost always listening to player feedback. That's extraordinarily rare for a mobile publisher. So if you're okay with mobile, I doubt you'll have a bad experience here.

Plus, I think Tsukiyomi is hot. But please forget that I said that, lmao.

I love the fact Queen and I basically turned the thread into the Warhammer 40k thread. As the emperor intended

Another of mine in the stable. Was terrible for me on the PC, just ran the GPU at 100% all the time regardless of any settings. Keep meaning to install it on my M1 MBP as it will easily run the game.

Mechanicus has a learning to it, equally a very rewarding game that makes the player think. Kind of reminds of the original Space Hulk in some respect's. Ultimately Mechanicus is an electronic boardgame with a relentless enemy and if into strategy in the WH40K universe you wont be disappointed

Welcome to life as a 40k fan, where Games Workshop the license holder is the definition of evil and our video games are hit or miss. We got absolutely amazing ones like Space Hulk Deathwing, Final Liberation, Dawn of War, Space Marine, Mechanicus, and the recent Boltgun, but also absolutely horrible stinkers like Fire Warrior, Glory in Death (which released on the god damn N-Gage lmao), Kill Team, Battle Sister, and the worst of them all Storm of Vengance (which was made by Eutechnyx, creators of the worst game of all time Ride to Hell Retribution)

But hey, eventually we did get a sequel to Space Marine so maybe one day you'll get Dawn of War 4.

Guilty as charged

At least it only $0.89 cents on GOG LOL...

TBH there was little to no alternative in the day if you wanted to play a WH40K FPS. Just go play Quake 4 is simpler that way LOL.

But the real kicker is the fact this trash game is what introduced the Tau. What a poor first impression of what was then the big new race

You know how it is, some are really good well thought out games, some just shameless cash grabs. I picked it up years back for buttons and it was a timewaster. Fire Warrior is basically a mediocre FPS with a very thin coat of WH40K paint.

Doom 3 BFG on the RBDoom-3-BFG 1.5.1 engine...
7_-_WWLN49t.png

If into Doom 3 this mod will blow your mind. Forget all the argument about the original versus the BFG release. RBDoom 3 BFG is graphically outstanding for a game of this age, stunningly so. TBH puts many a new game to shame. Atmosphere is off the charts rightly so, as now you drop the brightness to the original level.

I've got RBDoom 1.4 running natively on my M1 MBP, runs like a dream at full resolution. for those that want the OG on Apple Silicon Or PC is completely and very authentic, yet all the technical issues are resolved.

Want to play a dark game you can, alternatively you want a lighter more action focus you can. I play both RBDoom 3 BFG & Dhewm3 and enjoy both although while I get the torch situation it makes no sense that you can travel to Mars yet cant mange a torchlight & rifle at the same time. Once your absorbed in the game it tends to fade, but occasionally it raises it's head as being plainly dumb.

Has to be said the the original dev team's attention to detail is not negotiable. It's all there if you opt to lift the brightness. The game is still impressive to this day. Personally I prefer the horror aspect so BFG I play a dark game where the touch light is paramount.

My only complaint is there is too much ammo for the game to be a survival horror, but there are also mods to reduce the pickups to the original release. Even on the hardest difficulty level never felt I would run out of ammo. If you want that experience play Total Chaos likely one of the best free games you've never played, real old school survival horror with some of the most relentless AI I've experienced...

If you cant decide, dont fight, dont argue play both as you wont be disappointed either ways :) Best looking Doom 3, RBDoom 3 BFG hands down. Most faithful to the original release of Doom 3, Dhewm3...

Playing System Shock Remake (straight 2's for difficulty) having fun so far.
Might pick it up, have the original System Shock (enhanced edition). More into System Shock 2, played that a lot with a ton of mods. The real solution is Prey (2017) which in many respects is System Shock 3 only problem being it's mostly downhill after that...

Yeah the "new" version. On the "Second" floor realized I wasted ammo on the medical floor. Now I am having to pinch pennies...

LOL you need to try Total Chaos as that will be a restart situation. I found out the hard way, game absolutely kicked my ass. Got it wrong straight out the gate. I looked to kill everything in sight and wasted a lot of resources in the early game

By level 3 didnt have a pot to piss in; no ammo, no meds and the AI chasing me across levels, with no way to progress  TBH it's survival horror at it's very finest. Cruel and punishing springs to mind as the game is absolutely unforgiving yet it never feels unfair to the player.

Total Chaos is a 100% legitimately free game that TBH put's many a paid one to shame. Unbelievably it runs on a Doom 2 engine! yet looks like Unreal Engine 4. Be prepared as this one is a rough ride to say the very least...

The major problem with Total Chaos is that once you play the game it sticks in your head and you will be compelled to revisit it's nightmarish world over and over again. I'm not playing the game now, yet I'm still thinking about it so I'll be heading back soon enough...

Very imersive, not for the weak of heart by any means. Is a really good game if you can get into it, not easy mind. I've yet to beat Total Chaos and I can with most...

So, update on Street Fighter 6. This game is an absolute masterpiece that is gonna usher in a golden age for the FGC. This game is basically a meaty apology letter for that dumpster fire Street Fighter V

The game is just loaded with content. You got Fighting Ground which is your standard fighting game package: Training mode for practicing, arcade mode, local offline match, and online matchmaking. But on top of that Capcom did something unpresented for a fighting game and added a big open world single player RPG. The whole story of the game is M Bison is dead and everyone's at peace and your character is aiming to be the new world champion, all the while learning what our heroes are doing now with Shadaloo gone and uncovering a worldwide conspiracy.

So already the game would be a 10/10, but there's one other thing that Capcom added, and it's called Battle Hub.

Battle Hub is a big arcade where your created character and others' can roam around and socialize in, sit at an arcade cabinet to queue for a match, play classic Capcom arcade games, sign up for tournaments, watch fighting game majors, and even fight each others' single player avatars. It's the best fighting game hub yet, and is a breath of fresh air after Guilty Gear Strive's awful Tower.

But there's one thing about the Battle Hub that makes it even more hilarious: It has an unmoderated all chat. The result? Absolute beauty

Battle Hub is essentially the fighting game equivalent of Vanilla World of Warcraft's infamous Barrens Chat, and I love it so much. It's both funposting and a live salt feed. @ScrubQuotesX is never gonna run out of content to post on his Twitter ever again lmao.

God I love the fighting game community

Still with Total Chaos - Directors Cut.
Better than many a paid game. Completely free on MODDB. Genuinely frightening survival horror at it's best.

Spot of Space Hulk: Deathwing, great if you can master the AI. Really good online if you can find a local server. Superb atmosphere. Alien Isolation (Cracking Game), Doom 3 of course both versions on source ports, Deliver us the Moon, another firm favourite Dead Space; max the graphics and play on hard you wont be disappointed even today....

They’re too sweaty for me, man. 😅

Update: Still playing Street Fighter 6. The first battle pass dropped. I'm in Gold Rank now with Zangief, and I'm practicing one of the newcomers, the French Judo practicing superstar: Manon

I'm sorry everyone. I have become French. Twirling people around then throwing them is too fun.

Also doesn't help that her music slaps

I finally got tired of the lopsided reward systems in TotK (punishes those who struggle) and stuck my Switch in the drawer and grabbed my Steam Deck for more PC gaming fun this week ...

Replaying Solasta: Crown of the Magister on the Deck, only played on laptop before. I love the game - classic turn based RPG with a decent story and systems. But it really is meant to be played on a PC (mouse & keyboard) so it has been some effort to really adjust to the default Steam Deck control settings. But I think I'm there!
