is already working on fusing OSX and iOS.
I don't think we are there yet, but eventualy we will see one universal OS.
Sounds like you took the Surface Pro ads personally. I think MS deserves props for what they've done. I was very tempted to get an SP3, and I will likely get an SP4 if they don't mess it up.

Not sure what your point is. Yes, the poster you are responding to wants what is in effect a ModBook, but right now, that is an after-market modification that costs quite a lot more than a regular MacBook. Nothing wrong with wanting Apple to offer one directly, and hopefully cheaper than the ModBook.
However, it does seem somewhat silly to want BOTH an iPad Pro and a touch enabled MacBook Air. Every time I read people's descriptions of these two theoretical devices, I keep thinking, "But aren't they the same device?" The only difference I can think of is maybe the touch MBA doesn't have a detachable keyboard. But really, if Apple does make a touch MBA, why wouldn't they make the keyboard detachable? And if the keyboard is detachable, then it is the iPad Pro many people are asking for. So why would Apple make two devices when one would do?
The ModBook is just a MacBook and touch. I don't really want that. I want it to be more like an iPad. I did mention iOS, and the ModBook still runs OS X. Not to mention that the ModBook is expensive.
For the rumored " Ipad pro" i think it will have IOS and not OS X Because IOS is very good on a tablet and is very touch friendly and if IOS will bring Multi window support and more features like widgets to put on the home sceen like Android then there is no NEED/REASON Apple to put OS X on the Ipad Pro.
I don't want OS X on Ipad as i never used OS X in my life, i have used Windows and Android and i would definitely prefer IOS(I use IOS on my ipod) on the Ipad pro as long it has features like multi window support to take advantage of the 12 inch Ipad pro and
Anyway if it the Ipad pro does exist and comes out in the next 2 years well i am not interested in getting 12 inch Ipad pro because it is too BIG to be a tablet and it defeats the purpose(portability) of a tablet and i prefer the full size 9.7 inch Ipad and i will only buy the 9.7 inch Ipads in the future.
And if you want to have OS X on a tablet then there is Modbooks.
As for the specs it will have the sames specs and will have the same power of the full size 9.7 inch ipads.
And the Ipad is definitely capable of very heavy demanding tasks like video editing and on the benchmarks it says the Ipad Air 2 is as powerful as the 2013 Macbook Air and to me that is AMAZING![]()

-12.9 inch Retina Display (2732x2048) // I think they might do something new, 16:10 to keep the overall dimensions down and make the aspect ratio more suitable for split screen multitasking. Maybe something like 2880x1800 or higher? They will not go to a 16:10 screen or offer split screen multitasking
-Touch ID // Obviously
-3.1 Megapixel FaceTime camera with 1080p video // Yeah it's time to upgrade that front camera Not likely
-7.5mm thin // Yeah hope it's slightly more chunky so it's stronger
-1.3lb // That seems doable
-A9 Processor (Faster, 12-core graphics) // Probably A9X or some new, higher class name. Hopefully the main processor is quad-core and clocked a little higher. ROFL!
-32/64/128/256GB Storage // I'm thinking just 64/128/256GB priced $200-300 higher than equivalent iPad Air models. So 64GB would be $799-899 for the pro. No, 16/64/128. They won't change the storage on the first generation.
-4GB Memory // Yeah No, 2GB, see above.
-18+ hour battery life // Like the iPad Air is listed at 10 but gets 12, probably 12 but gets close to 14 10 hours.
-Stronger magnets // Would be nice so the giant smart cover isn't flopping around all over the place Nope

From here down that things get sketchy, lol.

.
-MagSafe 3 // Probably not Nope
-USB 3 and Thunderbolt 2 // Maybe USB with a new API in iOS for developers to write support for certain classes of USB device (maybe need to be MFI) that work with their app Nope.
-NFC Keyboard cases (Ones which basically turn it into a laptop, but with all the cool iOS stuff available) // Apple usually does bluetooth Nope.
-Bluetooth Mice (And throw in a cool UI for it as well) // Maybe a trackpad for the keyboard that lets you do certain gestures but unsure of how this would work unless we're talking about a crossover device No mice!
-Support for OS X Apps (with Keyboard and Mouse) // Oh we are talking about a crossover device. Would be cool if it would automatically switch between UI depending on whether it is docked in that fancy keyboard/touchpad case NEVER!
-Reachability in landscape (where the screen splits and goes separate directions) // Weird and neat but probably not Not bloody likely.
-Split-screen multitasking // Yeah ROFL! Not bloody likely.
-Start at $699/£559 // Nah, see above LOL
-A commercial which compares it to the Surface (PLEASE, this is exactly what Microsoft deserve // Apple is now beyond comparing themselves to competitors in commercials. From a marketing perspective, when you're now the leader it makes you look weak to do that. It is not a MacBook Air, why would they bother.

I think a keyboard dock case could house an extra battery, usb port, magsafe and SD card reader. I also think such a device would come with a pressure sensitive display for additional gestures and support for stylus for artists, illustrators and designers. Even photographers could benefit from a stylus when it comes to using adjustment brushes.
These posts make me laugh. They made the iPhone bigger, but they haven't changed it from being an iPhone. Why would you people ever think that making a bigger iPad, that Apple would change it from being an iPad. LOL!
Stop comparing the iPhone to the iPad. The iPhone 6 plus was made because people wanted something that you could do a lot of tablet stuff like watching videos and browsing the web more easily. The bigger screen is only one of the factors that makes it a 'Pro' tablet, kinda like the MacBook Pro is 13 and 15 inches as opposed to the MacBook Air at 11 and 13. This is an iPad Pro, not an iPad (Air) Plus. Apple aren't going to stretch an iPad and leave it as it is. It just won't happen.
This. The iPhone 6 Plus also has some iPad-like software features. If they do just make a bigger iPad then I have some serious concerns about Apple because there is no reason to just make a bigger iPad and not add any other value. The iPad is a success but kinda plateauing. There are many business and creative users who would like something in between an tablet and a laptop but they're in the Apple ecosystem so they would never consider a Surface.
The biggest selling points for me would be more RAM for more powerful creative apps, split screen multitasking, pressure sensitive drawing, better file management and a USB port with API for app developers to use accessories. Icing on the cake would be an Apple designed keyboard cover, and beyond that docking it would add extra functionality and morph the UI to be more OS X-like with a seamless animation.
If Apple wanted to they could have unveiled a larger iPad a long time ago. I think they want to add some value to it and do it right. iOS and Mac OS have been converging for several iterations nowand we probably aren't far from them running on the same device, depending on the needs of the user in the moment they are using it. It has been long rumored that Apple has Macbooks running on ARM in their testing labs, so you never know.
My dream (very unlikely) device setup:
- 5" iPhone 6S with 2GB RAM, @3X retina, reduced bezels
- iPad Pro 11.9" pressure sensitive 16:10 ratio, convergence device (runs iOS and ARM OS X) with 256GB storage, quad-core A9X, 8GB RAM, and Apple designed keyboard/trackpad docking case
- Mac Pro (decent specs) with 5K Thunderbolt 2 display
- Sony A7II or A7000 with some Zeiss glass that I can dump RAW photos to my iPad Pro and edit them (Lightroom mobile currently doesn't let you import RAW from the camera roll for some reason, still need a laptop to sync RAW)

I like your ideas. I think some will come in a year or two for iOS, like split screen multitasking or a file manager. I like how you want a keyboard case, and it would go well with the big screen, power, strong magnets, (which would make it adjustable like a laptop) and NFC connectivity. I would also want a trackpad, and an enhancement to the iOS to make it work well with it (I actually have a whole bunch of ideas for that). Developers can also add support for the keyboard and trackpad (one of the tons of things that they will have to do for this iPad.
I look at these wish posts and can't help myself, I laugh. Apple going with any kind of widescreen on their iPad to allow split screen multitasking? No. Going to 256GB storage? No, not on the first generation of a new device, and not with all the issues they had with the 128gb on the iPhone 6. Anything more than 2gb ram is a pipe dream. The iPad Pro will just be a blown up iPad Air 2, with a higher res screen. They might add a few UI tweaks, like they did for the 6 Plus, but that's it. What they might do with the release of the iPad Pro (which I still think is a dumb idea), is pro level video/photo editing to take advantage of the A8X with it's 2gb of ram. So the new software will only be available to the iPad Air 2 and this Pro model. Anyone who seriously thinks this new device is going to be some kind of iOS/OSX hybrid needs to lay off the sauce.

There will be no split screen multitasking or file manager in an iPad. Just accept it and move on. There is keyboard support in BT, but no mouse support, not even for remote access apps, so don't expect that to come any time soon, if ever.
Me personally, I think this iPad Pro is a bad idea. I see no need for a large screen iPad. The whole feel is wrong. The metrics don't jive.
Don't be anti-future. If iPads will develop to become this sort of thing, why not throw it into a professional tablet now? You keep replying saying that it's not going to happen, and if you give a valid reason as to why, I might accept it. But the iPad and the iPhone are different devices and they follow different paths. Don't think that if they do something to the iPhone that they'll do it to the iPad. It won't just stand still.
I just keep thinking that a 12 inch iPad with keyboard and mouse support is too close to a MacBook Air. Add better file management and multi-window and whatever other features people want to iOS, and it just seems simpler to have this "iPad" run OS X. Well, okay, OS X doesn't have touch support. So maybe Apple does build a touch version of OS X, or beef up iOS to have feature parity with OS X. Either way, when that happens, what we'd have is a merged OS. I think that IS the end game, somewhere down the line. In the meanwhile, the next step is EITHER an iPad Pro OR a 12 inch MacBook Air. I'm very skeptical that we will get both of these devices in the same year.

You said it yourself. Apple won't make something if it made people's experiences worse.
IF they are going to do any of the wish list stuff, it won't be on the first generation Pro. It won't happen. Period. End of story. And they both (iPhone and iPad) run iOS, and the number one thing Apple does not want is iOS fragmentation. You people are just asking way too much too fast, it won't happen. So sit back and relax, watch the fact that I'm right and move on.

Can I just ask what a realistic price for this iPad would be if it were to contain all the features I've put on my wish list? Only I thought that Apple might start making better deals on their Macs (I put this on a thread about a retina 21.5 inch iMac) and I thought this might go along with those prices.
-12.9 inch Retina Display (2732x2048)
A 12" screen at a density independent resolution of 1024 x 768 doesn't make sense IMO. The screen is considerably larger than a ~10" iPad.
Given the larger screen size in general, it is very possible that the iPad "Pro" would take on an aspect ratio that is closer to the MacBooks, i.e. a 16:10 ratio. Larger Android tablets take 1280 x 800 as their base density independent resolution (see Nexus 10), and I believe Apple will do the same.
Given the shift to @3x assets by Apple (iPhone 6+), I would think that a resolution of 3840 x 2400 is more likely, and would enable native playback of 4k (3840 x 2160) resolution videos. This yields a PPI of roughly 377, which is decent, and matches a 43% increase in density of the current retina "non-HD" iPad, closely matching the 50% increase from 2x -> 3x, and leaving the "touch" UI areas roughly the same.
This is what the screens will look like in terms of size comparisons - http://www.displaywars.com/9,7-inch-4x3-vs-12-inch-16x10
They will not go to a 16:10 screen or offer split screen multitasking
I think hardware wise, what you've described is an entry level MacBook, minus the keyboard. So I'd say US$899 for a 128GB model. Possibly a 64GB model could be offered for $100 less, but a 32GB model doesn't really make sense for a device with that much hardware.
But then again Apple are still making 16GB iPads (which I don't even think are suitable as base models for iPhones) so it's the same situation.
Still, I think the 32GB iPad pro is more understandable. If I were to get an iPad pro it would probably be a 32GB. Some people like me can live with this much storage, and it would be a good cheap option.
I don't think Apple is in the habit of offering cheap options, especially for a flagship device -- and with the other hardware you listed, it will be a flagship device.
But price considerations aside, I don't think Apple will ever make any iPad with USB ports. I think USB ports are going the way of floppy drives -- all connections will eventually move to wireless. And Apple has always been at the forefront of ditching old technology for new. It's true that wireless file transfer is still slower and not as reliable as wired, but wait a few more years and it will get thre.
