I don't think Apple is in the habit of offering cheap options, especially for a flagship device -- and with the other hardware you listed, it will be a flagship device.

But price considerations aside, I don't think Apple will ever make any iPad with USB ports. I think USB ports are going the way of floppy drives -- all connections will eventually move to wireless. And Apple has always been at the forefront of ditching old technology for new. It's true that wireless file transfer is still slower and not as reliable as wired, but wait a few more years and it will get thre.

It's very controversial. Some people will say great, I have this USB port, now I can use it to transfer my files. Some will probably say what the hell is this doing on my iPad? What am I paying for? But then, people probably think the same thing about laptops. So I think that there is just as much reason to put it on this as on a laptop.

Apple won't do those specs, they know it would simply detract from the the sales of their other products and apple care about sales more than what users want.

I'm afraid I disagree with you. Apple are always saying that their priorities are to do what is right and put the customer first, and I don't doubt them. IMO they've been doing the right thing for a lifetime.

After being kind of BLEH about the idea, I'm suddenly more interested in a larger ipad. Maybe. If the specs and cost are right. :D

What about it are you interested in? What would you expect? Sorry for asking, but I just want an opinion.

Yes, I happen to be kind of short. I already often get stuck behind taller people at concerts and theaters, and find myself having to crane my neck to see the stage. I hate to think how much worse it will be if that person was holding up an iPad!

have you tried wearing platform shoes?

air 2 has a pretty good camera i think, comparable to the 4s so not too shabby.

Think what you want to think, but I started this thread because I have faith in Apple to use the potential that this device has, and not to just follow the paths of their other iPads. You may or may not be right, nobody really knows, but there's no point in convincing me that my ideas are unlikely to happen, I'm just saying that I want Apple to make an iPad that is actually high-end. And if you're going to write another post saying that I'm wrong, don't bother.

I'm just letting you down now instead of then. Simple. But hey, if you want to be delusional, who am I to stop you?

I really just want an Apple Version of the Surface Pro.

I think it is time for apple to give us Split Screen, a 12 inch Touch Screen and some sort of hybrid OS X/IOS device. I know the hybrid part may be a pipe dream but those surface pro 3 adds along with everyone I know that has one taking about how great it is have made me a little jealous.

Would be nice if they could undercut the surface pro 3 in price as well. What are the odds?

It will be nice to have /OS X/iOS on it, with good pen
I have the MBP, iPad and iPhone, I bought the surface pro 3 loved the concept, but didn't like win 8.returned it.
if apple will not come out with iPad as said above, i will try the surface again when win 10 will come out.

It all sounds good but I have problems believing that Apple will "allow" the iPad Pro to be all it could be. The regular iPad is so restricted and so tied to iTunes that I just can't see Apple giving the iPad Pro "wings".

Time will tell but I am betting there will be disappointment:(

I think Apple might live up to these ideas. However, I don't think OS X is something that they would do. Any touchscreen device running a desktop OS is awkward to use. Windows 8 has proved that. It's just an awful user experience. Sure they added a menu that follows the design of Windows phone, and some apps/programs designed for touch, but that just turns it into a two-sided OS. For non-touch laptops, the experience of the mobile side is awful. The same applies for the desktop side on tablets. So Apple should learn from that, and make all of the elements that of iOS more native when they attach the case, but still keeping all the mobile features intact.

All the iPad Pro needs is a larger screen, a digitizer, and a stylus, and I'll buy it.

Well, that's hard to say. I guess I'd like it to be portable, a little more powerful than the iPad I have now and maybe more future proof. Possibly.

I don't really know. It's the kind of thing where I may spontaneously play with one at Best Buy or where every and decide to take one home.

Sorry, lame response but that's the best I got. :D

I think a bigger iPad, with some better internals that allow better resolution, multitasking, etc. would be cool. This would have to be paired with some sort of proprietary keyboard system, IMO.

For example, when I use my iPad in a belkin ultimate QUODE case next to a surface, I think it looks a lot better. The clamcase pro is very cool too. I tried the surface, and it feels clunky to me. If Apple can create their own version, and actually make something that is laptop and tablet when you want it, I'd definitely buy it. Maybe even OSX possible? With a functional trackpad. Maybe even switching between OSX/iOS possible.

Simply a giant iPad, nope. I can't see the point.

All they need to do is some sort of thing where if you plug it into a keyboard it boots into OS X and if you are keyboards it boots into OS X. OS X does not need to be touchy.

I was thinking more a proper keyboard that can let you adjust the iPad, not like the floppy surface keyboard. Maybe Apple can be a step up. But good ideas, thanks.

I know where this is going, but it doesn't sound like a very good idea to me. Having two OSs on one device, with the same apps, same stuff stored on it, all two-sided? Bleh... It just seems more simple to have the same software, but an enhanced, not revamped, UI for the keyboard

Especially after seeing the Windows 10 preview. Props to MS for attempting to make desktop Windows touch friendly, which they should have done a better job of from the start. I'm sure it won't be perfect though. Apple needs to be moving in this direction too, I think. When iOS style features started showing up around OSX Lion I thought for sure this was the next step. With more and more laptops and desktops shipping with touchscreens, more and more 3rd parties will start adding touch functionality to their software, but the OS needs to lead the way.

I feel that 12" for a device that is only a tablet is too large. I actually find 9.7" kind of unwieldy already (for a tablet). This would be different if it was a hybrid device, though, and I'd jump on that option as it would remove the need for an extra device for me (hybrid + phone instead of laptop + tablet + phone), which I'd love to do. It needs to be powerful enough, though.

I'd have bought a Surface 3 instead of an iPad Air 2 if it was better designed and had better software support. Microsoft seems to be aware of those issues and are likely to address them. They are years behind, but it's good that they are waking up, because competition ultimately drives innovation. If Apple does something similar to the Surface, I'd probably bite.

What is wrong with the design of the Surface? I think it is excellent.

I Have to agree with you there. The design and build quality of the surface are as you say excellent, but some people may not be fans of it. Even so, I still think the main drawback of the surface is the alienated OS. It just proves people have different needs

I really wouldn't care if it was just a current iPad with a 12" screen, and a built in full-capability Wacom digitizer with stylus support. Really. I would pay $999 for this.
