Perhaps that is the idea behind Apple. This will make the iPad looks good in terms of GPU performance. They can reassert that the iPad can replace computers.

If that is their idea, they've been rather terrible at going about implementing it. For starters, they could have dropped the 13" iGPU to lower-tier like everyone else and saved a good amount of money.

That bad?

It's a nice computer but I don't have that love for it like my old MBP. I definitely think trying space grey had something to do with it, the new keyboard is fine but I still prefer the old one, I love USB-C but the other ports were handy at times too, and the last model seemed to run some games I play better. (That last one could High Sierra tho not entirely sure)

I also remember enjoying my older generation macs more, specifically my old 15 inch with retina the 2012 original.

Rene Ritchie of imore has been known to do logical gymnastics to defend apple at any and all cost, had this to say about his MBP

I don't think its people's use pattern that is at fault but rather apple's design. The concensus is, that the design of the butterfly keyboard has so little room, that debris is getting caught up under the keys and if you're not careful that can actaully break the mechanism. Given that the older keyboards and other laptop makesrs are not failing because people typing hard, its not the user but the design.

Yes, Rene constantly tries to butter up to Apple to get attention from them and creditability and favor....and I am surprised that he came out with this review, so it looks like those who have “taken the cool-aid” as far as Apple products are concerned say there is a problem, then there is a problem.

Also..If you notice on the video...Rene bangs on the keys...typical of long time keyboard users..

Currently running MacOS on a ThinkPad because this issue (among others)

Time will tell if it's a viable long term solution or not. If it's not, I really have no idea what i'm going to do. Go back to my 2012 I guess. I have too much invested in FCP to move platforms.

I have to admire you dedicated Apple supporters. Even if the ship sinks you will remain onboard and spew your denial. Your dedication is admirable. Good luck to you.

Funny thing is what makes anyone think the "new" MacBook will be any better and more reliable than the "old" MacBook?

Some are dedicated supporters because we desire Apple to get over the money making thing and get back to developing innovative technology. Plus, many of us still prefer “computers” (MacOS) over phones..

Ok Apple, you now have money in the bank. Well deserved. Now get back to the mentality when you were struggling and were “pirates” in the industry instead of your now becoming “IBM” and pursue awesome products and technological wonders.

The offerings currently are ok...but YOU know they are half baked or sloppy....Understandable when now you have money in the bank and are successful and really don’t need to push things anymore.

Currently it may be you are in mid-life crisis. You made it. Became the best in the world (just for a short time actually). Realized that you are not “cool” anymore with the “U2” blunder...
Made your money and can ride it out the rest of your life. No worries about that.

Now...you guys are getting old now. Most of the originals who are still here are “baby-boomers” who don’t want to get old and still want to be cool and wear jeans and university tee-shirts and try not to look like your parents. Ok...understand...

Get back to where it all started. Create like there is no tomorrow. “Think Different” again..get your second wind.

Or just give it to the next generation and call it quits like what it looks like you are doing...now.

Grow “old” gracefully..don’t be clowns.

Retire and JUST look back at what you DID instead of what you are currently doing...

Or start...again...

Huh????

What is your point?

I returned my MBP 13" 2017. When the Apple employee who sold me the laptop asked the reason, I just said the keyboard is rubbish and the whole laptop is like a toy. If Apple gives me a laptop for free, I would have chosen an old one. No way I would choose the 2016 or 2017 MBP.

I forgot to ask him but how likely will Apple update Thunderbolt to a later version than Thunderbolt 3? I am considering to buy a Thunderbolt dock. Is it better to order now or wait for 10 more days? How likely will Apple increase the 84W power requirement and/or update the Thunderbolt?

Ha, ha, ha.
Why don't you hold your breath until that happens?

I'm curious. How many folks posting here are honestly (be truthful) going to the Windows platform if Apple releases the new Macbook Pros with little change on the 4th? Or none at all! I'm mean those folks honestly on the brink, and want/need to buy something.

Not only am I looking for updated internals, I personally would like the keyboard improved, a model without the touch bar (Hey Apple, no Touchbar doesn't mean gimp the model), and improved pricing. I was not fond of the upcharge last year, or was it 2016?

I know I am shopping Lenovo X1C and Dell's XPS series hard. But I am on the brink. What say you?

If those are your requirements I suspect your will be disappointed.

Various manufacturers are offering Memorial Day discounts. Too bad we have to miss this opportunity to wait for possible MBP 2018 announcement.
[doublepost=1527277707][/doublepost]When I returned the MBP 2017 to the Apple Store yesterday, the employee who sold me the computer asked me to wait for the WWDC as the new MBP would be released. Then, we just said to each other: "See you two weeks later". At this stage, how accurate is this hint? Could it be just his personal guess?

I think the grass is greener on the Mac side. Apple has had it own issues with upgrades, forced reboots, etc.

Also, Linux is an alternative to MacOS or windows

That is exactly where I am today. I am fairly deep in Apple ecosystem but think the time is here to place value in my investments. I was planning on a MacBook Pro this summer but the keyboard issue has given me pause to rethink my decision. I doubt Apple will make any important updates / changes to the MacBook line, if any thing it be incremental and not enticing. Apple needs to address their slipping QC in software (and they say they are) and now hardware.

Will Apple care about my opinion? No, they won't. And to be honest they are the giant of the industry, they don't need too. But many industry giants have faded and believed their own hype "they were too big to fail". Apple has enourmous momentum and cash reserves, they have time to correct but they are already eroding, especially in consumer confidence.

For me, I am looking at Lenovo or Dell for my next laptop.

I'm normally a lurker, not a poster, but thought this was a good time to chime in.

I was very, very excited and ready to update my 2011 MBP in late 2016 and was eagerly awaiting the new MBP. When it came out, I was underwhelmed and disappointed, given the high price, somewhat underwhelming internals, and fairly common reports of various issues. I decided to wait on a new laptop, and built a desktop PC in the meantime - my first foray back into windows in maybe a decade. The 2017 MBP continued to disappoint, and the news of keyboard issues is what finally made me take the plunge to the other side completely. I went ahead and bought a 2018 XPS 13 and really like it. The X1 carbon also looks nice. And, at price points way more tolerable than the MBP's.

A big thing that facilitated my switching is that I switched away from iphones years ago. So, much of the "advancements" in macOS, which were tied with integrating the iOS and macOS ecosystems, were useless to me, and I hated how much it felt like Apple tried to strong arm me to stay within its ecosystem. Now, I don't own a single Apple product. It's a bit sad, but I guess it was time for me.

I read with regret that many people are disappointed by the keyboard of these Macbook Pro, what a pity, I had almost placed my trust in Apple and now I am more confused than before.
I've been using Windows for years, I own several laptops and not, and in none of these laptops I've ever found the build quality of a Macbook.
My first Acer died from the apparent high tempertures, my first Lenovo ( that I used with the right precautions and care ) the plastics broke with time.
But ok I said, let me to trust Lenovo again. 1 year ago I bought another Lenovo from which I am writing to you right now (y50-70) which has the following problems:

  1. High temperatures
  2. Throttling
  3. Screen flickering
  4. 1-hour and 30-50 minutes of battery life (in my lucky day).
I understand that your expectations are high, but before consider non-Apple solutions I would think about it more than once.
You can read on line same things about the Dell XPS, screen flickering and high temperatures.
The important and crucial difference is that if you have a problem and your PC is under Apple warranty they will repair your device without too much excuse, others? Just bullsh*t and wasting time, I spent months with Lenovo trying to repair my computer and now I find myself with a 1500€ shi*ty device.
Good luck with your choice!

At some point you're going to realize that most of your failures in life stem from **** like the above. I'm sure you're thinking it's just trolling for the lulz, but it's just an extension of the same elements of your day-to-day life that hold you back from where you should be. You keep telling yourself you "deserve" more, but your actions are childish and ornery. If you think people around you can't see it, well... Some day you'll either get over it and start moving forward in life, or ... you won't. But know that it's visible.

To be completely honest, I run Mac for work and custom gaming PC for, well, gaming - and Keynote is what keeps me on Macs for work. Despite being more prevalent, Outlook is slower, uglier, buggier, and three more steps for every one on Keynote. I get why people use it (especially those who have to integrate Excel and whatnot for their presentations) but for what I do (marketing, startup investment) Keynote alone is keeping me in the ecosystem.

That said, I'm damn close to hackintoshing if I'm not impressed by the new MBP. I've been holding off upgrading because of keyboard feel alone (it's not enough feedback for me) so the failures were just the topping on the "nope" cake. If it's the same thing, then there's a Dell or something in my future as my daily machine, and I'll dedicate the old one to just running Keynote. But I'm hoping that I can get what I want and need in late June.
