The only newer phones that can fit my width limit and I have an interest in is the Nokia N9/Lumia 800 which have a 3.9/3.7 inch screen, respectively. So the absolute perfect size isn't about screen. It is about the overall width of the phone. Ideal width should be nomore than 62mm for me.
Width issues can be mitigated by edge design. I tried the HTC Titan and that's a 4.7 inch phone but I had no problem using it due to how well it tapers.

I think most people think the iPhone would remain a boxy shape that would be tough to hold but I think a bigger screen would mean a design that would be more streamlined.

What's funny is that even if the iPhone 5/6 comes with the rumored 4" display... All the Android manufacture's already moved to 4.7" Even the WP7 Titan and Titan II have one. Apple would yet again seem to be lagging behind the demand for bigger screens

Yet I didn't make such a thread title did I? This is just your opinion of my intentions, yet you pass it on as fact. If I didn't want honest opinions, I would have rigged things a lot more.

I've already said in this thread that I'd be fine with a 3.5 inch iPhone option as long as there was a larger model to go with. It's only the anti-choice brigade that says that there can NEVER be a larger iPhone.

 You better keep your voice down, you talk yourself into trouble.

Personally, I couldn't care less as long as it's less than 4.5" - I can read web pages and e-mail on my iPhone without zooming in and like the small form factor, but as long as it doesn't end up a complete brick like the Galaxy Note then I don't particularly mind what size the screen is

There's nothing wrong with what I said. It is absolutely true that people who are anti-choice detest the idea of anything that isn't already done by Apple.

Anti-Choice = Pro-The Apple Way

Why do you people keep bringing up the Galaxy Note? It's clearly NAMED the Note for a reason. It's touted as a phone/tablet hybrid, and has NOTHING to do with anything that can be called a smartphone. You're just bringing up the Galaxy Note because its a good strawman for your argument.

I realize that you aren't an anti-choice kind of person like the people who have voted for the screen to stay the same, but this is what we have to put up with: person after person who points to irrelevant **** like the Galaxy Note as evidence of phones becoming unwieldy.

WTF are you talking about?
I mentioned the Note purely as a size I wouldn't want a phone to go to (in other words, a screen size that would make a phone too big).
Apart from that, Samsung themselves describe the note as
A new type of smartphone, borne of insight and innovation.
It is the ultimate on-the-go device which consolidates core benefits of diverse mobile devices
while maintaining smartphone portability.
It empowers you with everything you can ever desire so that you can simply, feel free. It is truly smart.

See the word "smartphone" in there several times - they are clearly aiming it at the smartphone market and tout it as a single device that can do several things, including replacing your smartphone. If it is aimed at replacing a smartphone, then it obviously has plenty to do with smartphones...

They call it a "new type of a smartphone" and a consolidation of "core benefits of diverse mobile devices" so no, it is not a smartphone. It is a hybrid, even with their BS marketing talk.

Ouch :D

Its amazing what you read and take your own interpretation of it. Incredible.

I didn't have to interpret anything. Samsung can't call that monstrosity a smartphone without adding corollary language and all I did was point that out.

The 4S clearly wasn't a mistake?? Where have you been?

The 4S had record sales for Apple so weather or not the SII "outsold" it is pretty irrelevant.

the only reason the 4s sold more is becuase the size of the smartphone market is growing. Apples actual percentage share has fallen in the USA while androids is growing. This will only continue unless they respond with a new handset. If they release a 3.5inch screen it will be suicide.

I don't agree but we will have to see.

This is exactly right, Apple need to keep up with the competition or Apple will not grow their market share. Im a huge Apple fan but if the new iPhone does not have AT LEAST a 4" screen i will grab an android.

My, my, such intensity and nastiness over a phone's screen size.

Clearly, it is necessary for me to resolve this issue.

The exact, proper size for the next iPhone screen is between 3.89358742045 inches and 4.00001845627 inches.

There, problem solved! :D

Most people want a screen big enough to browse websites comfotably. But this is not the iPhones only purpose. Usage differs. I do not need a bigger iPhone because I have the iPad. Not few people who say the iPhone needs a bigger screen say it because they want it to be the all in one iDevice but this is clearly not the case. Every tool has its purpose.

The reason the 4S sold more is because

1) Verizon customers were holding out for an upgrade since Verizon released the 4 in between release dates.
2) Sprint got the iPhone for the first time, and was the only one to offer unlimited data.

Likewise, if the iPhone 5/6 were also offered to T-Mobile and other smaller regional providers, it would sell more than the 4S, simply because people who want an iPhone aren't getting it. Everybody wants it over your average garbage Android phone sold to every cheapo provider and dealer because its a premium product, not this Android crap forcefed to the market simply because Google wants it to go to everybody so they can use the cloud.

Plus there were a bucket load of people on the 3GS at the end of a 2 year contract who felt the upgrade to the 4S was sufficient. Me included :D

Well that goes without saying. I however am a 3GS user waiting for a 4 inch, non-glassbacked iPhone. If it doesn't go to 4 inches, I'm going to look at Windows Phone Apollo handsets pretty closely this Fall.

I think it's pretty certain that Apple will finally listen to the market now, though.

I'll cross my fingers for you. It would be nice if the next Phone replicated the iPad. Aluminium back would look pretty cool.

the facts are apples percentage share has dropped in the USA despite selling more 4s handsets and androids percentage share has grown. The facts contradict your opinion

If Apple made the iPhone 4 inches, you'd say how great it feels, simply because Apple made it.
I've read every post up to the above quote and have come to the conclusion: going by your logic ..nobody is allowed to support Apple's decision to stick\go with 3.5 inch without you claiming they're fanboys.

What's the point in having a poll asking for honest opinions, if any answer that doesn't suit your pre-conceived ideals is met with a pre-fabricated reply?

Fact: They didn't make it 4 inches, They made it 3.5 inches.

Now that's been cleared up, maybe you could stop treating your personal speculation as the perfect rebuttal - it's not, it's ignorance of the facts.

A 4" screen would be perfect. I've played with a Galaxy S II and slightly smaller than that would be the ideal size for sure.

what makes 3.5" good as you say? I think your still missing the picture, we have a 3GS, 4 and 4S. My i777 GS2 has a 4.3" screen, and Samsung did that with a footprint (case) size that's barely any larger then the iPhones casing, I mean if that very slight actual size difference makes such a day/night use factor to somebody then they have other issues they should worry about lol. Plus the phone is lighter and thinner and shaped great.

If Samsung could do that with a 4.3" screen, then Apple can do the same thing (4-4.3") w/o a chassis that's large or bulky.

Now I don't care for the 4.5"+ bigger phones and some have noticeably larger and bulkier cases. But I think your missing the picture here, my phone doesn't have LTE either. I definitely agree on AT&T's hspa+ network though, I'd rather have that then LTE (till they can make it an efficient process), I mean the speeds my GS2 or the 4S get on it are more then plenty for mobile uses when out and about, hell I avg speeds similar/better to most peoples average wifi setup at home (though my home network is still blazing fast lol). but the phones get awesome speeds on hspa+ w/ the same battery life as 3G, that's a win win right there.

Just the way it feels in my hand. It's small, pretty narrow, and still has a decent amount of thickness to it. Some of these Android phones are getting to the point where they are too thin. Heck, I wouldn't want the iPod Touch as a phone, it's too thin. I never particularly like the industrial design of my Captivate, but I absolutely love the industrial design of the iPhone 4S. I'm not missing anything that someone on a 4.3 or even 4.65" screen has, and yet it is just the right size, and has great battery life.

If Apple changes their phone's size up from 3.5 inches, then Apple's decision to make it 3.5 inches in the first place was wrong. If they actually were making an educated decision on what the best screen would be for their phone, Apple would have gone with the larger screen size in the first place and never changed it. Ever.

To go with a wrong decision simply because Apple:

Fact: They didn't make it 4 inches, They made it 3.5 inches.
...is pure fanboyism. You're not thinking of what the absolute best size is, but rather, what Apple THINKS is the absolute best size.

You'll see this when people get used to having a 4 inch screen and everybody forgets how "great" a 3.5 inch screen was and how PERFECT the new size screen is simply because Apple made it whatever it's going to be.

I have yet to see anyone shaving with a Droid Razr.

Fact: They didn't make it 4 inches, They made it 3.5 inches.

...is pure fanboyism. You're not thinking of what the absolute best size is, but rather, what Apple THINKS is the absolute best size.

The statement of an accurate fact is not fanboyism.

Another fact, there is no absolute best size, its a matter of preference.
