Just because the 4 was a game changer doesn't mean everyone liked it or was happy about it's existence. I acknowledge that it changed things, but I've always hated the design and was glad last year when Apple finally killed the 4s off.

Don't take that to mean I hate anyone using one. I don't. I just don't care for the design. A personal preference.
I think every iPhone has it's crowd of people that don't approve. People didn't like the 4 because of its design. People didn't like the 5 because of the size increase and also the same thing with the 6.

Space Grey 5s. Slate 5 is a close second, the blueish hue of slate makes it second for me.

No contest, 4/4S. Not the most practical design (shattered very easily when dropped), but definitely the most attractive. The most practical is probably the 5/5S. I hope Apple returns to the straight edges next year, since the 6 feels slippery like a piece of soap compared to the 5.

iPhone 4/4s in my opinion. That hardware design is what officially drew me to iPhone. I was a die hard blackberry guy. But when I saw that design I was "wow". That phone was beautiful and easy to use. Loved how the back was glass and you could easily put screen protector on front and back. Even on back didn't look hideous because it was just a flat design.

When the 4 and 4s came out, I thought the design of the phone was amazing. I think it was the fact that we were stuck with the plastic backing from the 3 and 3gs
A year later... when the 5 and 5s came out... I still think it is the best looking iPhone to date.

I'm not that big of a fan on the 6/6s models. I do like the thinness of them though. I thought they were ugly at first, but once I actually had it, it kind of grew on me.

I still like 3G/3GS design the best due to the curved rear design. It felt pleasant when held in hand. And the entire phone was black except for chrome accents, which I think gave a purposeful and substantial appearance.. There were flaws though. It didn't feel as solid as newer versions. The black plastic case had small cracks after 3 years.

But I guess it doesn't matter now since most people put their phones in cases.

I would actually go 5, and then original, then 4. The materials on the original were very good.

To me easily the 5/5s design. I see it as a refinement of the 4/4s design. I'd say the space gray 5s specifically is the best looking overall. The plastic 3g and 3gs were my least favorite, they felt and looked cheap to me.

My ranking:
5/5s
4/4s
6/6s
original
3g/3gs

Just wondering what people think.
It's hard to judge past aesthetics from our current viewpoint. When the design for the iPhone 4 came out, it was stunning. Now, of course it looks dated.

I really do like the look of an un-cased iPhone 6/6s the most at this point. However, if I were to judge this based on my reaction at the time I first saw a design, I would pick the 4.

4s. When they made the phone taller starting with the 5, it made the phone both less attractive and less practical.

slate iPhone 5. Absolutely gorgeous, yet slightly sinister
