Honestly, I've loved every version of the iPhone for some reason and all had their merits. If I had to choose, I'd say the
slate iPhone 5 followed closely by the space gray 5S were the best. They refined the design of the 4/4S, had the sleek metal back, the two glass panels that I actually liked, colored antenna rim, and the chamfered* edge looked really class, at least in photos. It was dramatically lighter than any model before or after it. I never owned the 5 or 5S.
3G/3GS: Didn't really like the design, but they felt great in the hand and looked cool with the curved back.
4/4S: really close to best design. They felt like heavy duty machinery, but there was a lot of phone for such a small screen.
6/6S: my 2nd place. Contrary to what other's think, I think the back of the iPhone 6/6S Space Gray is beautify. I don't mind the antenna lines. I love how the recessed volume buttons look, and although the curved display gets on my nerves at times from light reflection, I think it's a beautiful detail.

I will say that the chamfered edges looked really sleek on the black models, but made the front of the white iPhone look too busy to m. If you look at the screenshots, the iPhone 6 is beautifully simple when viewed from the front.
